Alabama Crimson Tide at Kentucky Wildcats, Mar 12, 2010 1:00 PM EST
After an impressive, come-from-behind victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Alabama Crimson Tide move on in the bracket to face the 2010 SEC regular-season champions, the Kentucky Wildcats.

Coach Calipari has said he does not know what to expect from his young team today, and says they don't know what to expect either. Calipari said they did shoot around this morning, and said it was "great," and just hopes they play well. So do we all, of course, but I think Calipari understands that it is important to really want this win, both to solidify the #1 NCAA seed the Wildcats are expected to get (I don't think that is seriously in jeopardy, though) and to impress upon his young charges that you have to want every game at tournament time.

What UK needs to do to win:
- Go inside early and often to Cousins, Patterson and Orton. This will open up outside shots, and UK is shooting better from there.
- Get out in transition. Alabama defends transition well, but they tend to be slow getting into their half-court defense. That will leave UK with some excellent early-offense opportunities.
- Face-guard Mikhail Torrance. As the old saying goes, "If you cut off the head, the rest of the snake will die."
- Attack the offensive glass. Alabama is a very decent rebounding team, and UK has been in a slump lately rebounding-wise.
What UK can do to lose:
- Give up the glass. Kentucky must not let Alabama get a big edge on them, particularly on the offensive glass.
- Fail to get back in transition. Alabama will not want a high pace, but they can run opportunistically. UK must contain them in the open court, and find Torrance early.
- Turn the ball over. Alabama defends hard, and will be very aggressive today.
- Play passive. UK must be more aggressive than the Tide if they want to win.
Kentucky needs to prove it is ready for tournament time, and the Tide are a good test for the Wildcats. Alabama is hungry to continue, and the Wildcats will need to bring their "A" game today.

To be blunt
I see a lot of similarities between Cal and UT’s former football coach. Cal’s not quite as bad in my mind, though. Still, the comments are very disrespectful to the SEC. It ain’t C-USA no more, the SEC actually has conference pride and winning the pre-big-dance-dance is meaningful.
I did see something yesterday that no national champion has ever been bounced in the first game of the conference tournament, too. So, there’s that.
Anyways, I’m out! Gotta hit the road but will be keeping an eye on the game. Honestly, the fan part of me wants to see UK-UT again but the rational part of me wants no part of the Wildcats. So it’s a win-win lose-lose for me either way.

I think he was playing to the UK fan mindset
that we’re about NATIONAL relevance and winning, and not merely happy with SEC level winning. He was trying to say the right thing. But what maybe he didn’t get was that, we want to win the SEC too. We really really really really really kind of insist on it. We want both.

How many have
been pretty this season we either get down and have to come back or get a big lead and let’em back in thats the story when you have a young team that wont be there next year.
