Rooting For Duke

Gasp..........I am rooting for Duke to win the ACC tourney! Why, Cuse just went down....and IMO they just lost the preferred seeding of going down South. If Duke wins, then I think they go number one seed in the East. Kentucky gets South, Kansas gets Midwest and Cuse goes West. I know I will get lots of boos on this but the South will be much easier place for the Cat fans to get to and plus well my parents live in Beaumont,TX not far from Houston so I will maybe go down there :)......lets go Dukies.......who are still worthless in my opinion :)

well,

I’ve got to hand it to ya, you are very brave to admit your newfound, one-and-only-time Duke-rooting, and although I more than likely won’t be openly rooting for them, I am all for us drawing the South Region.

I would almost drown in my own tears if that were to come to fruition (I have had tickets to see the action in the South Regional for about a year now) — so go ahead, honey, root away, and I’ll just be here crossing my fingers for the South. : )

How

cool for you!!!! I think you have a pretty good chance of seeing them play there. We love Houston too. We went down there for the first time almost two years ago and just fell in love with Houston. To me they have the cleanest and prettiest downtown I have ever seen. I just love it down there.

by tenken on Mar 11, 2010 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

hey, thanks.

Yeah, my sister-in-law lives in Houston and actually lives downtown (“a inner looper”, I guess it’s called?) and that’s where we will be hanging out when not at Reliant. She was driving to work one morning last March and there was an advertisement for tickets and she asked if we wanted some.

If I remember correctly, at the time, I knew that we weren’t going to make the big dance (last year) and I remember thinking, well, “maybe next year, and wouldn’t it be cool if UK ended up in Houston?” Not really ever thinking that it might happen, but, here we are.

We would still have to make it to that second weekend to actually play in Houston, of course, as the tickets we have are for the Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight, but I’m quite confident in our ability to make it that far. : )

It would be cool, guess we will see. Selection Sunday is only a few days away. That’s hard to believe in itself. Didn’t our season just start? Time really does fly when you are having fun…. ; )

I bought tickets to the NCAA

1st and 2nd rounds in 2003 because there were games Nashville, where I lived, and I just like to watch basketball, you know? I had no thought at all of Kentucky being placed there—at the point in the season when I got the tickets, we weren’t especially good, and I definitely wasn’t thinking potential one seed. When I was watching the Selection Show and Kentucky got placed there….well, let’s just say I literally screamed with happiness, and throughly disturbed all the dogs in the neighborhood. It was pure bliss. I hope you get the same thrill!

I can’t disagree with you, tenken. I have to say, I don’t find this Duke team all THAT hateful, really, and I actually think they’re quite good, and have a shot at not going down in the typical Duke sweet sixteen flameout.

by blue kentucky girl on Mar 11, 2010 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

yeah,

the love of college basketball in general is what was the initial motivation to get the tickets to go down to Houston in the first place (well, that and the thought of getting away for a can’t-go-wrong-weekend consisting of three things I just love — bars, booze and basketball : ), and with it being the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, I thought the games should be very decent. We won’t get to see as many games as if we were attending the first two rounds, but the second weekend should by all accounts prove to be some really good basketball. And really, it won’t be the end of the world if we don’t draw Houston, because whether I hear our name for the South on Sunday or some other number 1 seed, it will still be exciting, not as exciting as if I were in the South with our boys : ), but an exciting experience nonetheless.

I guess I kinda hijacked your thread here, huh, tenken? Sorry….. : )

bars, booze and basketball...

Truly, you cannot go wrong! We had an absolute blast at the NCAA games we went to, and not just the Kentucky ones (though they were extra awesome, of course). We went two different years, one where UK was there and one when they weren’t, but either way it was great fun. Both times were 1st and 2nd round games, but I’d think love the sweet 16 and elite 8 even more—better matchups and more drama. Nothing was close to me me this year unfortunately, but I can’t wait till Louisville gets their arena because they’re supposed to get NCAA games too. Maybe even Kentucky if we continue to secure high seeds and favorable placing! Can you imagine the UK madness with us playing in the NCAA in Kentucky?

by blue kentucky girl on Mar 11, 2010 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

this is strictly

from memory, so don’t hold me to it, but I seem to remember something about Louisville being announced as a location for the first two rounds of the NCAA tourney in 2013? I’m pretty sure I didn’t dream it, and I think that is the same year that the Final Four is at Cowboy Stadium?

If true, and Louisville is a location in 2013 — you should get your tickets sooner rather than later (it’s cheaper that way and you get your pick of seats) as you live not too far away, right? : )

by BigSkyCat on Mar 11, 2010 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

naaah

you didn’t. I would be excited too if I were you!!!

by tenken on Mar 11, 2010 9:27 PM EST up reply actions

girl

that was me!!!!! I missed church that night so I could wait for selection sunday and order tickets as soon as they announced it. As soon as they said Kentucky in Nashville I SCREAMED too!!! Scared my kids :). I had never gotten to see them in the tourney. I got tickets and had a great time there. I had so much fun. Nashville is a great place to have a tourney except for the limited seating.

As opposed to cheering for Duke, cheer against Kansas.

If we pass them for the top seed, we will not go east either. I can stomach cheering against Kansas as opposed to cheering for Duke.

I almost bought tickets to the StL regional this year

and I am still hoping they get St Louis over Kansas since that is the closest to Lexington of all 4 locations.

Tenken, I love you (don't tell your husband), but I've gotta say this:

Duke has a great program and an outstanding coach (although his hypocrisy astounds me), but I wouldn’t root for them if they were playing the University of Hell.

I know your motivations, and I respect them, but I’d far rather see Kansas lose than Duke win. Just can’t abide their sanctimonious attitude. Please don’t be mad at me on this, but I just can’t bring myself tol hope they win ANYTHING, although I think they will. On second thought, maybe if they were playing Georgetown . . .

And Duke was chosen to represent the planet – I still wouldn’t root for Duke.

Not now.

by tenken on Mar 13, 2010 12:53 AM EST up reply actions

Not to be acrimonious,

but gotta win the conf tourney first….or at least win tomorrow and probably Saturday…. before declaring the NCAA region. Don’t take that for granted. Aside from Kentucky as the favorite, Vandy/MiState/Fla/Tenn all have a shot at this thing, IMO. Should be a very fun tourney to watch.

Rooting for Duke is like rooting for the Nazis

It is just plain wrong.

Maybe pulling for

Duke to win and go to the East Regional would put them in a bracket where they would have a tougher road in front of them. If we knew this for sure then pulling for them would be pulling against them.

by kywineman on Mar 12, 2010 8:21 AM EST up reply actions

I'd rather they just lose in the first round regardless.....

Say it ain't so Ten??!! Duke?! Really???!!!

Actually, I can appreciate your foresight and reasoning, but the thought of rooting for Duke in any capacity just made me throw up in my mouth. How about instead we root for Duke to lose their opening game in the ACC and be forced to possibly settle for a 2-seed. Maybe West Virginia can win the Big East and take the 1-seed in the East???

by Shive on Mar 12, 2010 10:08 AM EST reply actions

hey

I could go for that :)

by tenken on Mar 13, 2010 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

I actually like Duke

I always pull for them, over anybody unless they were playing an SEC team. They always make for exciting games/atmospheres. KY never plays them, why must we waste energy in disliking them? Plus, Duke’s campus is awesome!

Make No Mistake

Win or Lose, Duke will play at least the first two games in NC. The NCAA always gives Duke an automatic home court advantage.

by LyricSmith on Mar 12, 2010 10:46 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, that does suck. UNC has always had that advantage too.

Ok I live in NC now and being a UK faithful it has been so nice to wear my gear here. I recently went back to school but I stayed with Charlotte because they have no major threat to UK. I love basketball and often tell the UNC fan friends I have here at least i can respect them unlike Duke so we agree to both equally hate them but somewhere inside I really want to see the UK Duke matchup in the tourney I have had to hear how we should change senior day to one and done day too many times in the past week to not want to shove it down their throats.
