GOG 2009-10 #31: SEC Tournament

Kentucky rolls into Nashville looking for its 28th 26th Tournament title.  I don't care what Cal says - I want them to win this thing.  The bracket sets up an interesting scenario in which UK could face Tennessee in the semis and Vanderbilt in the finals forcing the Cats to beat both home state schools to take home the title.

Star-divide

Kentucky last won the SEC Tournament in 2004 when Gerald Fitch, Eric Daniels, Cliff Hawkins, and Chuck Hayes led the team to victory over Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.  Florida and Georgia are unlikely opponents this time around, but UK could see South Carolina in their first game.

Basic Information:

  • GOG #00 has information about the game.  Follow the link if you have any questions.
  • The SEC Tournament bracket can be found here (opens a pdf).
  • GOG 30 has been graded.  Click the link for full results.

A quick word about this GOG: a few of the questions involve future games in the semis and final.  While we all hope/expect the Cats to advance to the final game, there remains a possibility they could be upset before that point.  In the event that UK does not play in the semis or finals or both, the answers to these questions will still be graded in an appropriate way.  For example, if the question is "How many points does UK score in the SECT Semifinal game" and UK doesn't advance that far, the answer would be "0".

GOG 2009 #31: SEC Tournament [Max  60 Points]

  1. Which team wins UK's quarterfinal game: UK or the SC/Bama winner? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] UK
  2. How many points does UK score in their quarterfinal game on Friday? [4 pts if correct, 3 pts within one, 2 pts within two, 1 pt within three] 73
  3. How many points does UK's opponent score in their quarterfinal game on Friday? [4 pts if correct, 3 pts within one, 2 pts within two, 1 pt within three] 67
  4. How many points does UK average in the SEC Tournament? [4 pts if within one, 3 pts within two, 2 pts within three, 1 pt within four] 74 per game.  Special kudos to BigSkyCat and EagleTDL who nailed this one exactly.
  5. How many points does UK allow on average in the SECT? [4 pts if within one, 3 pts within two, 2 pts within three, 1 pt within four] 62 per game
  6. Which two teams will play in the finals on Sunday? [3 pts each] UK and Miss St
  7. Who wins the SEC Tournament: Kentucky or the field? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] Kentucky
  8. Who wins SECT MVP: one of Wall/Cousins/Patterson or the field? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] Wall won, so if you picked any of Wall/Cousins/Patterson you got points for this one
  9. How many Wildcats are named to the All-tournament team? [3 pts] 3
  10. Kentucky shot 30.3% from beyond the arc in SEC play.  Do the Cats shoot better than 30.3% in the SEC tournament? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] worse: 13 for 51
  11. The second quarterfinal game pits Ole Miss against the Tennessee/LSU winner Tennessee.  Which team wins that game? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] Tennessee
  12. The third quarterfinal game pits Mississippi St against the Florida/Auburn winner.  Which team wins that game? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] Miss St
  13. The last quarterfinal game pits Vanderbilt against the Georgia/Arkansas winner.  Which team wins that game? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] Vandy
  14. John Wall POY: will he shine in the tournament?  Predict his assists in the quarterfinals/semifinals/finals. [2 pts each] 5/9/9
  15. DeMarcus Cousins FPOY: will he out-rebound entire teams?  Predict his rebounds in the quarterfinals/semifinals/finals. [2 pts each] 8/15/10
  16. Patrick Patterson is just awesome, but you already knew that.  Predict his points/defensive rebounds/dunks in Friday's game. [2 pts each] 20/3/3
  17. How many UK players score at least one point in the tournament? [3 pts] 11 players scored
  18. Darius Miller has really come on strong at the end of the season and that's good for the team.  Predict his made 3's/offensive rebounds/blocks in the semifinals. [2 pts each] not such a great tournament for Miller, though he did have his moments. 1/0/0
  19. I was watching the Seton Hall/Providence game Tuesday night that finished 109-106 in regulation.  I can't remember the last time I saw two college teams both score in triple digits, even with overtime.  Do any of the games in the SEC quarterfinals, semifinals, or finals have a combined score of 200 points or more? [+1 if correct, -1 if incorrect] no

Deadline for entries is tip-off of UK's quarterfinal game at 1:00 PM Friday, March 14.

Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still. Followed by millions of dumbfounded dips**ts.

It's frustrating when you know all the answers, but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
