What Were They Thinking? SEC Coaches Edition

OK, so there has been a little bit of fallout from the SEC COY selection by the coaches themselves. The Big Blue Nation, while not completely taken aback by the award going to Kevin Stallings of the Nobility of Vanderbilt, had some concerns as to how in the world the coaches themselves awarded a mostly expected season of not mediocrity, but decent performances from Vanderbilt, and could not find it within themselves to vote for one of two truly more deserving candidates, and possibly three depending on how deeply your sentimentality runs. I was however able to get the coaches to jot down their thoughts on paper and have their assistants e-mail them to me so that I could get this information out to those who are confused by it. Below I think you will get a better understanding of "What Were They Thinking?"

Star-divide

Coach John Calipari/Kentucky- "I really like that Fox kid, has some moxie, made Lemonade out of Lemons, wasn't as big a deal as Pearl beating us and Kansas, so maybe I should vote for Pearl.....hmmmm......not happening...."

Vote: Fox

Coach Bruce Pearl/Tennessee-"Man, this is tough, Calpari comes in and wins the whole thing, bad enough when he was at Memphis, now I have to deal with him at Kentucky, but I did get his butt in Knoxville....hehehe.....South Carolina played tough all year, but that was Downey....We kicked Kansas back to Lawrence, beat UK here....ahhh what the heck......"

Vote: Pearl

Coach Andy Kennedy/Mississippi- "Why do I have to do this?, I might not be here much longer unless I win one of these.....Calipari killed everyone he played at home, stumbled at SC and UT, has 3 1st rounders.....but I cant vote for him.....he is going to kill us all for years to come.....who can I vote for that will hurt me the least?.....oooh.....I know"

Vote: Stallings

Coach John Pelphrey/Arkansas-" OK, there is no way I can vote for myself in good conscience, but with another year, maybe we can turn this thing around. Who else had great years?.....Calipari beat practically everyone he played, besides, he's at my school......."

Vote: Calipari

Coach Kevin Stallings/Vanderbilt-" None of these guys have to work as hard as I do....none.....I have to try and turn these Rhodes Scholars into basketball players....I teach all of them how to shoot threes......I have to play in this barn......Can't stand the orange guy over in Knoxville......No way am I voting for the "Anti-Coach" in Lexington....."

Vote: Stallings

Coach Mark Fox/Georgia- " Man, this is tough. I haven't been here long enough to make too many enemies yet, and I cant buddy up to anyone in my division......what is the safe vote??"

Vote: Pelphrey

Coach Darrin Horn/South Carolina-"I need another player....wait, I need a lot of players.....Downey is graduating, oh well, he helped me knock off Calipari.....so who do I vote for?? Cant vote for myself, not yet anyway, I havent been here long enough to start that......Pearl had a couple of really big wins, but we beat one of those teams so they arent that big......no way I am voting for Calipari, no matter how much sense it makes......"

Vote:Stansbury

Coach Rick Stansbury/Mississippi-" I had to start all this nonsense with trying to bring in that freshman that the NCAA is going to clear to play in about 20 years......Vanardo had a great year....wonder if there is a way to keep him?....who do I vote for?......need to make a safe pick, anyone but Calipari.....he disrespected our entire conference!!....who does he think he is??.....ooooh....I know who to vote for!!!"

Vote: Horn

Coach Billy Donovan/Florida- " I hope we get into the NCAA, I hope we get into the NCAA, I hope we get into the NCAA.....What is this?? Coach of the Year ballot?....no way I am winning this one......hmmmm....who do I vote for???.....not Calipari....he has the job I should have taken.....Not Pearl.....I don't care if he did beat Kansas and Kentucky, I am just not gonna do it.....That guy down at LSU had a great year last year, maybe it was a fluke he did so badly this year......"

Vote: Grant

Coach Trent Johnson/LSU-"I cannot wait for this year to be over, I cannot wait for this year to be over, I cannot wait for this year to be over.....Coach of the Year ballot???.....hmmm....I really need to think about this one.....I cannot wait for this year to be over......who had a year as bad as me??....oh wait, no one....."

Vote:Lebo

Coach Jeff Lebo/Auburn-"Am I allowed to vote in this thing if I am not going to be here next year???......Who should I vote for?Don't like Pearl, cannot stand Calipari, Cannot vote for the guy at Bama, he is great, but alumni will fry me for that one....."

Vote: Donovan

Coach Anthony Grant/Alabama-"OK, how does this thing work??....It wouldn't be cool to vote for myself....I should vote for Donovan, since he helped me get here....."

Vote:Kennedy

So, there you have it folks, Stallings got one more vote than anyone else. Enjoy the prize Kevin, It might be the only one you get this year.

if these are the real “secret ballots”, then i’m for fans or ANYBODY ELSE voting for the “COY”…unless this is just a joke to the conference, et al…

I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.

Blood cheeky it is

And I enjoyed every word. Eff em. I am sure a coach would rather get to and do well in the postseason as recognition enough. It does more for the program than a COY award.
