Race to 2000

Here's the deal...I expected UK to get there first, although I thought it would be close. We needed 12 victories and UNC needed 16. My projection was beating UNC by one game and possibly getting victory 2000 against Louisville (that would have been special).

So, Whodathunk that not only do we beat UNC to the 2000 victory total, but that the pale blue Heels might not even get there this year?!? Are you kidding me? What's happened down in Chapel Hill?

UNC has

a tough stretch ahead in their conference. They might get 2000 before the conference tournament but it is by no means a certainty.

Kenpom has them predicted to win just two more games this season

Against NCState and Miami. That would put them at 15 headed into the ACC tourney… where they would presumably face a tough opponent and then (maybe) the NIT where they would also be a lower seed and play on the road.

It may very well be the first game of next year before they get it. As String Music noted, I think Kansas needed something like 38 wins to hit 2000 when the season started. They stand a very good chance of winning the title and getting the 38 this year.

Truly bizarre.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Actually, Pomeroy now has us losing only 1 more game before the SEC tourney

Regardless, the stretch of Feb 13 to Feb 27 is going to be tough (UT at home, then Miss St and Vandy on the road, followed by Carolina ta home and finally UT at Thompson-Boling). Can we really escape that series with only one loss?!?

Time to really dig in. And, with PPat showing more aggressiveness and Dodson now contributing more, we should be in good shape.

That is true... HOWEVER (queue Stephen A. Smith voice)

They do have a tough row to hoe from here…

Duke
NC State
at Ga Tech
at Boston College
FSU
at Wake Forest
Miami
at Duke

Looking at that schedule, I agree that squeaking out more than 2 more wins might be a tall order. They’re sitting at 13-10 right now. 15-16 would be dismal. And the chances of winning a game in the ACC tourney would be slim as well.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

The race to be the 2d to 2000 wins

KU started the season at 1970 wins, while UNC started at 1984. KU now has 22 wins and needs just 8 more (30 win season). They will get there. It seems quite possible that the Jayhawks will beat their former coach to 2000. Hard to believe.

I think

KU has closed the gap on UNC from 14 at the start of the season to just 5…..hilarious!

There is only one thing that bothers me

about UNC having a down year (snicker, snicker), and that is that the Hated Denizens of Durham are likely to pick up two easy wins. Other than that, it’s all good.

My prediction is that is within three years UNC will be back atop the ACC. It’s all part of the ebb and flow of life, don’tcha know.

It’s just like UK. We ebbed, now we’re in for a long period of flow.

I think they'll be on top next year

Harrison Barnes is a sharp kid. I think he’ll do a lot to quell any locker room disfunction.

Its good for historic programs to have down years...why?

So that other historic programs can have fun with it! :)
