Say It Aint So, Bob?
When ESPN's College Game Day comes to town next week, they are bringing an entourage of sports personalities, on air staff, the lovely Erin Andrews.....but evidently they don't have enough room for one other thing........Bob Knight. It seems that the esteemed Coach Knight, now a member of the elite press corps which bring us our joyous events each and every basketball season, wont be making the trip.
Say it ain't so, Bob? Tell us you wont be missing out on the best College Game Day of the season. Why would you not want to come to the friendly confines of Rupp Arena and visit with Coach Cal and the boys? How will we get by during the pre-game, halftime and post-game commentary without your rapier sharp wit? To whom will we turn for our moral compass which would guide us through the weekend? We were really hoping to get that souvenir photo of you and DeMarcus together wearing the hat and glasses sets he has made so famous this year. I might as well not even bother to watch, because you have taken all of the fun out of it. And so many fans were wanting to express their appreciation for all you have done for the game and how much love you have shown UK over the years. This is just very upsetting. I may need therapy.

First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
I am sure Coach Cal is
deeply disappointed since The General is one of his favorite coaches. I am sure he was planning to have him over to the house for dinner with Ashley.
I heard he bid 50K for that charity dinner.....then when he found out it was Cal doing it he pulled out
lol
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
After careful analysis
I figured out what I like about Bobby Knight. Not a damn thing.
Things are more like they are today than they ever have been.

He seems to have that effect on a lot of people.....
I simply loathe the fact that he has become what he despised…..lol
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Remember the old joke with the punch line,
“We’ve already established that. What we’re doing now is haggling over the price.” ? The situation applies to BK.
"The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena . . .who spends himself for a worthy cause . . ."

I hadnt even seen the Vaught piece Weasel.....thanks......
I think Larry is just a bit too emotional about the Cats though….lol……calling Bobby a bully…..perish the thought…..
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Ahhhh man!
I was hoping to see a chair or two get thrown across the court after the game. Oh well, I guess for that to happen he would have to shake hands with Cal or possibly see DeMarcus wearing his hat and glasses.
I use to love Happy Meals, now I love sushi, but I will always love Kentucky!
Now gang,
We all love picking on the general, but do we really “know” why he isn’t making the trip? LOL
I will revert to a comment that I made a week or so ago about BK not calling our games, and that was ESPN knows oil and water DO NOT mix. :-)
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
actually we do not know.....other than what information ESPN has provided and that was that
it is a “scheduling conflict”……read into that what you may…..I dont know anything other than I was disappointed he was not going to come…..lol
Remember, we're having fun now!!!

Yeah, I havent had any Kentucky Fried Blowhards in a long time......lol....
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I noticed fatso and Brent Musburger were
wearing matching sweaters on their broadcast the other night….not sure what that means other than maybe what we raised in Bullitt County say…..guess they’re asshole buddies!!!
He’s the ulimate bully in all of sports. Talks big when he’s around people who support him but doesn’t have the balls to back it up when he has an opportunity. ESPN knows he’d get booed by 20,000+ so it’s probably as much them as fatso but wouldn’t it be great to be able to personally express your view of the fat slob.
You can't fix "stupid"!
Good Stuff!
Yea, and don’’t let him ever come to Lexington again!
What’s the guy know about basketball anyway?
He won how many national championships? Really?
Well, that aside, ehat does he know? The winnest coach of all time? No way!
You think he might have know about the hundred dollar handshakes when he was playing Kentucky in the 70’s?
Well, its time he got over it!
I bet he’s really going to mess coming to Lexington.
Ask Kyle Macy about him having him flow back at Knight’s own expense when Kyle got his jaw broke in Puerto Rico.
Grow up people.
He has his opinion of Kentucky basketball and bashing him isn’t going to change it
Let’s just stick with Jimmy Dyjes. He knows a lot more about basketball than Knight.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
I don't think anyone's implying
he doesn’t know basketball. Billy Packer knew basketball too. That didn’t mean he wasn’t a pain in the you-know-what to listen to, or that he wasn’t wrong about it sometimes. Actually I rather like Knight as an announcer, but I have to admit it’s good for a little chuckle to see that it APPEARS he maybe possibly might have backed out of a trip to Lexington after he ran his mouth about our coach.

Frankly Paris, I dont give a damn........
Knight may be the smartest basketball mind on the planet, but I wouldnt invite him home to give a pep talk to my daughter’s Jr High Bball team, much less show him any respect where his career as a broadcaster is concerned. He may know everything in the world, but that doesnt make him any less of an S.O.B. than he is.
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Kentucky Girl
I’m listening to him right now doing the Texas-Kansas game.
He may have backed out, we don’t know, but I’d rather have him as the color man than anyone in college basketball.
I don’t see Bob Knight backing down from any situation or confortation.
May be wrong.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
I'll tell you one situation he backed down from that has nothing to do with coming to UK for Game Day.
When Bobby Knight was a coach he wouldnt give you the time of day as a commentator or a sports reporter. Now, without making comment on that profession, I found it to be hypocritical to say the least that as soon as he hung up his whistle, he picked up a microphone. The man must love the sound of his own voice.
I actually thought that Myles Brand gave the guy a lousy deal at Indiana, but as it turns out, I guess he just gave him enough rope to hang himself.
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I guess there is a first for everything.....
…and Saturday he is backing down, make no mistake about it. He’s a coward.
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
Well, Paris...

Apparently you missed the second half of his final season at Texas Tech.
Just like he did.

Who took over when he left?
Think that might have been a way to get him a heaad coaching job?
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
Actually, you are 100% right about that Paris.....his leaving was facilitated by the fact
that Pat was his “coach in waiting”. And to be honest, I am not sure he would have gotten a shot at a head coaching position any other way. But to leave halfway through the season like that was not a particularly popular thing to do.
Pat Knight has done a decent job as his successor, but it does beg the question that might bring an interesting answer from you, Did Knight’s demanding of his son being his successor help or hurt the TTech program? Would they have benefitted from a coaching search? I know that Knight and Son were a package deal when Ttech gave Knight the job, so did they get the best situaton for their program, or just a leftover from a forgotten era? Considering your feelings on the Brooks-Phillips arrangement, I thought it might be an interesting answer.
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Quitting on his team
less than two weeks after picking up his coveted 900th win, and with the team in danger of a potential losing season, was exactly what it appeared to be: The final selfish act of a self-absorbed asshat.
He had already thrown his weight around enough to get his boy the coaching job, Paris.

he actually got it in his contract Sonic........lol.....
Pat taking over was written in there…unless I got my info wrong, I was given that from a TTech alum that I speak to from time to time……I always assumed he was correct…..
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
it didnt matter when he left, he could have stayed long enough to finish the season
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
that's true
the question is, is how long did the contract stipulate that they would have to keep Pat after that? If he has met their standards past that date, then that is why he is still there.
"all the way"
I dont know if Pat got his own contract renegotiated after he became head coach, or if it
was negotiated along with Knight’s when they both went there….I assume that Texas Tech is good with the job he has done, because he is still there, but maybe it is a contract issue??
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Glad Bob isn't going to be in Lexington.
Watched KU and Texas last night, and Bob said KU won the first half, and was winning the second half. He then said they would probably win the game. What insight!

Knight Insight
After viewing and listening to last night’s UT-KU game I have arrived at the following conclusions:
1) Bob Knight is a boor.
2) Bob Knight is a bore — one can only stand just so much coaching insight with precious little color and even that being sort of a washed-out gray.
3) Bob Knight is an anachronism who is totally out of touch with the 21st century game or its players.
4) Bob Knight is a brilliant student of the game as evidenced by his analysis of ‘Horns poor guard play and the recommendation of playing J’Coven Brown at the point.
5) Bob Knight’s take on the Cole Aldrich elbow/technical foul was absolutely correct but one wonders if his analysis would have been the same if the elbow was attached to DeMarcus Cousins.
6) Bob Knight has a visceral, pathological dislike for UK.
7) I have the utmost pity for Brent Musberger for having to endure Knight for 2 hours or so, but considering Musberger’s career status I doubt he has a choice.

Maybe somebody needs to smack the back of HIS dome
A la Joe B. Hall to get him motivated. Corso and Herbstriet “embrace the hate”, where’s Big Bob? Poor little Bobby can’t come out and play , Espn?
"all the way"
Bob Knight
is a joke of his own making.

I guess we sould have anyone a joke that has more wins than Adoph. I believe the other comedian coached a North Carolina.
Jealously causes others to find fault with the more successful’s product.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
If I believed him to be superior that argument might hold merit......
unfortunately for me it is exactly the opposite…..and number of wins be damned…..good coach or bad coach be damned…..this is about what he is doing here and now…..his Texas tech days hold some bearing on the situation for me, but not a lot. everyone has the right to act like a jerk every now and then, Knight simply decides to abuse the privelege…..
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Well, Paris
I can assure you that “jealousy” has absolutely nothing to do with it. But two things that do spring immediately to my mind are:
- While he is justifiably given credit for a HOF career on the court, many who still laud him as a present day genius forget that his Indiana teams spent the last 6 years of his tenure limping out of the NCAA Tournament with such “death and taxes” regularity that every time March rolled around basketball fans across the country knew that if they weren’t due a tax return that year, they could just bet on Knight’s team to flame out early in the tournament to make up the difference.
- When video tape of the big, tough Fake General choking one of his charges finally surfaced, the player just so “coincidentally” happened to look a lot like the kid who played the lead on ‘The Wonder Years’, and absolutely nothing like…. say…. Latrell Sprewell. Go figure.

Would we have fired him a LexIington if he was taking us to national championships? Would his total wins look go attached to what Rupp had already accumulated?
If you want to slam him, have his whole record to bounce on, not just the last few years.
And what years during his tenure was any of his teams under investigation or on probation? Or not able to play in the NCAA if they were qualified?
Sonic, I thought I read Coach Cal respected him. Are you disagreeing with our coach?
And you last comment makes a lot of sense.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
Paris, Bob Knight was an accomplished coach on the court
during “his day”. He is definitely deserving of being in the Hall of Fame based on his on court record. I would have voted for him, for sure. At one point, playing against his team was a huge challenge. But also at one point, doing the “Safety Dance” was marginally acceptable behavior, and ‘Miami Vice’ was the coolest thing on t.v.
Knight only got past the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament one time during the last 13 years of his coaching career. So, it has been a very, very long time since anyone was even remotely afraid of watching Selection Sunday and drawing “Bob Knight” in the Tournament.
As for the last statement, it makes crystal clear sense. You and I both know that Knight would have no problem physically assaulting a pale little pasty kid who is half afraid of him. But do you, Paris, think Knight would ever have had the cajones to put his hands on the throat of Latrell Sprewell? That is the point. And one of the best YouTube vidoes to unfortunately never have had the chance to exist.

I don’t know and you don’t either. Knight was an outstanding coach. He would have been anywhere he coached.
I have no issue with you but those saying he’s a coward, etc. is ignorant. of the card carrying variety. Of course that is my opinion. other’s can have their own.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
Talk to any shrink there Paris......99.9% of bullys are cowards at heart......
I didnt make up the figures, but I have had them quoted to me by multiple people to explain the behavior in others…….I will say this much……cowardice comes in many forms…….I dont have a personal knowledge of the man’s inner psyche, but his behavior over the years, which has been well documented both on film and in person would lead one to believe at the very least he has some mental issues…..
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
what you need to do is invite him to have a sit down with you and you expleain your inssues with him. Its easy to make comments about some one you are probably not to see persson to person, or in a setting where he can speak back.
You, on the other hand, exjoy taking shots at people on a blog.
OH,my, you are so imprsseive here. There, find a corner to hid in.
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
Sorta like
the General taking shots at Calipari?
What shots????
I have not taken a “shot” at anyone…..I have only given my opinion of what he has done that has been documented thoroughly.
Has he not become a member of the press that he loathed as a coach??
Has he not taken his own “shot” at Calipari in an environment completely outside UK basketball??
Has he not decided not to come to UK when the entire staff of College Gameday is???
If you are referring to my raising the question of mental issues, then that might be considered a shot, but in truth, most of what the man does, would be construed by a professional as a cry for help. Sorry, I dated a shrink for a few years, and it kind of rubbed off on me….it’s not meant as a personal attack, it just seems kind of obvious….
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I do know it was reported he punched a cop who refused to let him in a gym to practice during the Pan American Games I believe.
Knight didn’t shy away from many.
