FOOTBALL: HOW IMPORTANT IS THE UK-LOUISVILLE GAME TO BOTH SCHOOLS?
New Coaches, a sure win the next week for each, is it important enough to pull out all stops?
September 4, 2010 marks a new era for both Louisville and Kentucky in football. One program on the way down and the other, so say, on the way up. One riding a four bowl game trek and the other only watching other play for the last few years.
Louisville seems to have made a hire in Charlie Srong that has revived the program's interests and he and other members of his staff have immediately sturred the coals in the number of Floridians they have brought to the incoming roster.
Joker Phillips showed he could recruit by finishing fast with some quality athletics. An intact staff on the most part will give the Cats the edge in continuity and only the new recruits will be surprised by any of the structural aspects of the program.
How much does the game cause instate recruits to look at the winning program? It appears little.
Both schools need the win. Both play a much lesser opponent in the next game. No reason to hold back on the play calling.
Louisville may have an edge on preparing. Same offensive coordinator appears at Kentucky and the former Head Coach of the Offense in the top job.
IN MY OPINION, a win will give a boost to one of the programs that can lead them into the top third of the season looking like a contender. A loss will leave the other looking for the first of six wins to be had to get to bowl eligibility. And one less game to play to get there.
What's yours?

A good win for either program
The problem is; that we are scheduling the kind of people you describe in your earlier post after that. Instead of sounding off without a plan; where is Indiana? Our one time rival and big 10 cupcake? If you are going to schedule cupcakes, Indiana is the way to go. Then, Marshall would be good.
"all the way"
Less Important Each Year
Setting aside the parochial interest the UL game is of no more important than any other non-conference game — a win required to become bowl qualified.

Good points!
Since we don’t knew the buy wins now, some say, it would be nice to see a Big Ten team, or an ACC team on the schedule.. We don’t to keep all three of the buy wins now so we can have Louisville, ""a have to, Western Kentucky, and one from each of the two mentioned conferences. Some one we can brag about beating. Its sorta tough to so against a Charleston Southern or Eastern Kentucky.
Or do we need contnue to play the lesser knowns to continue cementing our ‘improvement?’
I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.
