Well, argaubly our loss

at Tennessee is a better loss than Kansas losing at an unranked OKST.

Doubtful though. If Cuse loses. It really depends on what Purdue does tomorrow. If UK and Kansas lose, and Purdue beats Michigan State tomorrow, they might go to 1 regardless of Cuse. If Cuse wins, they get the 1 or 2 spot.

Really,

I think if Purdue wins tomorrow, they get the 1. They’re 3 right now, if 1 and 2 go down, they’ll get it. Plus, a win over MST is a good win.

I really don't think that is a factor.

2 days rest or 10 days rest, a loss is a loss. A win isn’t any less valuable because you you had 10 days rest before it, so a loss on 2 days shouldn’t be “less bad” than any other loss.

by ro307805 on Feb 27, 2010 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

It wasn't really the half court defense today.

It was the transition D. UT executed exceptionally well, and if we had stopped them in transition instead of allowing them all those dunks, we would have won.

I like what we did today against the long ball, but the transition D was just abysmal.

A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan

by Glenn Logan on Feb 27, 2010 6:46 PM EST up reply actions

Why was that, Tru? I mean we've seen the guys slow to get back on D before so you'd

I still don't get how youth hurts us

I get that in some cases experience means a lot in the tournament. But I also know that this team can play on the same level as some more experienced teams.

I don’t expect a NC but I don’t think it’s impossible for us either.

by Roflectomy on Feb 27, 2010 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly

And I don’t think that can be attributed to inexperience so much as the style of play.

I feel like 30 games into the season, there’s no such thing as a freshman.

by Roflectomy on Feb 27, 2010 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

I feel like experience is a word people throw around with little regard to meaning

At least in college basketball.

You could ask anyone what they mean by experience and you could get a different answer every time. :)

by Roflectomy on Feb 27, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

I hate to say it but

Macy’s to/assist ratio, against far better competition is a revelation alonside John Wall’s: 2.6 for Macy vs 1.53 for Wall. Let’s throw Wanyne Turner in the mix: 1.7. I have other numbers; but if we win the NC, Wall will be the lowest rated PG at UK to win the NC.

"all the way"

by ro307805 on Feb 27, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

I think a lot of us are aware that he's not the best PG

I think we’re more or less amazed by his resolve. He does not crack under pressure and can singlehandedly change the momentum of a game.

He’ll be an amazing PG in the NBA though, where the floor is spread more and defenses don’t pack into the lane.

by Roflectomy on Feb 27, 2010 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

you know I used to watch the NBA a lot but it's just not

interesting anymore to me. I was really surprised Rondo has had the success he has so you’re obviously right that Wall will do well in the NBA. As I typed that…..realized how it looked….not knocking Wall, he’s a good point guard, just not seeing player of the year.

If anyone deserves National POY, it’s definitely Evan Turner. He basically carries OSU.

I believe we will win some of the remaining games just on talent with many mistakes as we have in the past.

However, if we were to lose out and collapse the fall out would be very damaging to the UK cause for the next couple of years. Therefore, I can’t honestly write that not winning a few games in the NCAA isn’t critical for the future of UK Basketball.

youthful mistakes and glorious talent…as we watch PPat, Razor, Perry, Wall and Cuz finish their college careers. Get ready to hold your breath… yell in the success and frustration with the roller coaster efforts that we have come to embrace from the Cats this season.

Despite the loss today…how about John Wall’s 360 lay up today? Then right after the lay up, we give up a long pass to Prince for a dunk.

Don't know how it soudned on tv

But there were clearly “Go Big Blue” and “De-fense” cheers from UK fans when down 15. Also could hear “C-A-T-S” over top of their “V-O-L-S” cheer with the band.

UT fans were loud, but UK fans being loud when down on the road double-digits, showing once more how great BBN is.

I was way up and in the corner wering my blue 54 shirt

There were definite moments when UT had the ball and all you heard was “De-fense!” And all of the ref complaining came from the orange, but the number of fouls on them and the superstar treatment of Wall and Cousins. Of course that wasn’t all of them, but was proud to not hear BBN complaining as they were to team down on the scoreboard.

It is also amazing to watch how much Cousins deals with every possession. I saw Pearl with a two-handed full extension push in the back twice in one possession, the second coming as the ball was going out of bounds.

Too bad they count games @ Nashville and Athens too.

He was quite gracious on the radio, saying that the schedule helped them this time and UK was fatigued after a comeback. He said occasionally beating UK is important to keep it a rivalry and his goal is to be UK’s in conference rival on par with UL and IU.

There are a lot of similar bubble teams this year. Different people value different stats or see inconsistent teams on different nights.

Sounds good to me

Would that be the finals?

I would ask to be in the same NCAA bracket and meet in the Elite Eight, but they’ve never been that far.

by GoLightning on Feb 27, 2010 8:32 PM EST up reply actions

Hrmmm

It would probably be the finals. The byes for the tourney would be

E1 (UK)
W2

W1
E2 (Vandy)

UT is currently sitting at 3rd in the East, so I think that puts them in that lower bracket. (I think.)

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

by chirop1 on Mar 1, 2010 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

No, it puts us in the upper bracket

We’d play LSU in the first round and Ole Miss in the 2nd. Should we win those, a date with UK awaits (unless Auburn or SEC East #5 pulls a stunner).

by iam4ukintn on Feb 27, 2010 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

I mentiooned that the past couple of threads

The Big East has refs that are CONSISTENT. If they call it tight, they call it tight. If they let ’em play they let ’em play. The SEC refs are horrid. They change their calls through the game and have never spelled the word consistent.

by sweasyf on Feb 27, 2010 10:40 PM EST up reply actions

I've watched Syracuse play a mean 2-3 zone this year

and I wonder if UK couldn’t play a mean 1-3-1. ….Liggins at the top, Patterson on the baseline, Cuz in the middle, and Wall Bledsoe on the wings. It they had worked on that for awhile it would be a sweet zone D

by sweasyf on Feb 27, 2010 10:55 PM EST reply actions

I don't agree with that...

If they have been that good then why is Purdue above them currently w/ more loses…if Purdue wins, they deserve to stay in front of Syr.

Did you watch the Syracuse game? They dominated a very good Nova team...in every way

Have been working and missed

the whole day… I come out of 2 surgeries and rounds… no meal…barely time to even go potty… no contact with the outside world…WHAT HAPPENED HERE TODAY PEOPLE?!? Yikes!?! Cats lose, then so does KU? Wow!

I’m guessing, without even seeing game recap one, that we didn’t shoot the 3 worth a crap… if we don’t get someone shooting the trey, we can kiss any chance of success in the tourney bye-bye for many reasons!

I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

by pinata89 on Feb 28, 2010 12:48 AM EST up reply actions

Two points here...

First, during conference play, I would think a very good result would be to win all home games, and split on the road. That would be 12-4 in conference. I’d take my chances with that record any year. And this team should do better than that. IMO.

Secondly, I’ve heard a rumor that this team made a pact early on, that if they didn’t win the NC, that they would all come back next year to win it. Doubt this is true, but a nice idea to think about anyway.

by UK1972 on Feb 28, 2010 10:07 AM EST reply actions

if Wall and Bledsoe did come back

UK would be prohibitive favorites

"all the way"

by ro307805 on Feb 28, 2010 10:14 AM EST up reply actions

In regards to the first para...

You’re right, you’ve got to defend the home floor and steal some on the road to win the SEC. That’s the way it’s always been… We’ve had 7 road games to this point in the year, and we’re 5-2. 7-0 for home games. That type of record will get a 1-2 seed in the SECT every year, and more importantly, a bye on the first round!

When we started the “tough” stretch of the year, beginning with MS ST, the comments around here were “everyone would be happy with a 4-2 record in these games”. We’re at 3-1 now, with a good shot at 5-1. Enjoy it!! :-)

Second para… Bluehound says it best, “nice fantasy”.

If your wings don't sweep....

by EagleTDL on Feb 28, 2010 10:25 AM EST up reply actions

I'm late to the party(?) here but the Syracuse victory last night

Jumps them to No. 1 today, IMO, no matter what Purdue does. Even if the Boilers rally around their fallen player and win, voters will discount their long-term chances.

KU’s two losses are slightly “better” than UK’s two losses, I also think. Losses to UT at UT wash out each other, but their second loss at OSU is a little better than our second loss at USC.

My two, or four, cents worth.

by BCinVA on Feb 28, 2010 11:43 AM EST reply actions

That Syracuse game was scary

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as a Vol fan, I see a lot of similar weaknesses between us and you. Y’all, obviously, are much more talented, but both of us have trouble shooting from the outside (as evidenced by our 24% from three yesterday), and I get the impression that both of us would struggle with a well-executed zone. Fortunately for y’all, John Wall can still drive against it, but I wouldn’t imagine it’s your ideal scheme to face. And Syracuse’s zone is insane. I want to stay as far away from them as possible in the bracket. I suppose y’all don’t have to worry about it, as you both will be #1 seeds, but if you end up in the Final Four, ‘Cuse is one team that I’d be hoping got knocked out early.

by Incipient_Senescence on Feb 28, 2010 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

This pretty much mirrors my thinking, although

if the Orange can lose to a very mediocre Louisville team at home, then they too are very vulnerable.
