Not to rain on Ackbar’s parade, or anything- but does anyone else think that Lando is more responsible than Ackbar for winning the space battle in Return of the Jedi?

1. When the rebel fleet show up they are barreling towards the Death Star in order to “form a perimiter.” But the shield is still up! Lando manges to catch it at the last moment and warn the rest of the fleet before all those rebel crusiers and dreadnoughts crash into the energy shield.

2. Ackbar’s famous line “It’s a Trap!” is certainly very iconic, but what does that really say about his command abilities? Swarms of Imperial ships surround the rebel fleet and what does Ackbar do? Think of a counter strategy? No. Instead Ackbar just states the obvious.

3. Lando, having full confidence in Han’s ability to eventually bring down the shield, is also the one who convinced Ackbar to remain in the battle instead of retreat.

4. When the Death Star fires its energy beam and obliterates a rebel capital ship, it is Lando who think of the strategy to move the fleet in amidst the Star Destroyers for cover and to nullify the Death Star’s main weapon.

5. Credit where it is due- Ackbar DOES order the fleet to concentrate all firepower on the Super Star Destroyer.

6. Finally, it was Lando who flew the Falcon into the core of the Second Death Star and obliterated the reactor.
