The Big Blue Daily Mail -- Monday Morning, You Sure Look ... White

Man.  This snow just stinks.  Those of you not in Kentucky right now, consider yourselves lucky -- unless, of course, you are in Indiana or the mid-Atlantic.

One of the advantages (or disadvantages, depending on your viewpoint) of working from home means you don't have to mess with bad weather as much.  But it is still mighty inconvenient.

Now, to the non-snow related news:

The new Uni's are fine, but nothing to get excited about.....

of course they didnt bring back my stripes from the early 90’s….darn…..lol

Cats will get 2 tough wins this week…..which will prompt fans to say that they “just arent ready” for the tournament yet……please

Hated to see the girls lose to Vandy…..maybe it was all that pink in that barn down there in Nashville…..or maybe they just got outhustled…..you pick….
On a related note, If it is ok, I am going to bring an article on the girls next week after I see them play against SC on Sunday, assuming you approve Tru…..My first visit to Memorial since 1970, and to be honest, I was only 5 so I dont remember much….And I thought that in light of their record breaking season, we owe them at least a days worth of attention.

Louisville beat Syracuse, and I honestly dont know how….they didnt play all that great, but that freshman, Malla is it?? And Samuels pulled their fat out of the fire. And after watching what they did to Syracuse to beat them, Syracuse no longer makes me as nervous about playing them.

Michael Porter will take the high road with the book….he is not the vengeful type.

Remember, we're having fun now!!!

Snow, Snow go away

In my first half hour in the office this morning, I had 7 people call to reschedule. (Including my only appointment earlier than 8 AM and thus my only reason for being here so early!)

On the up side, its given me time to get caught up on my basketball rumors and news!

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Get a kneck pillow ...

… and make sure you don’t rest your head in your hands.

I had that cause a major problem in with one of my cervical discs, and just barely avoided surgery. I have to be very careful not to rest my head on my hand while sitting at a table or something.

Both my wife and I wound up getting good memory foam neck pillows, and we even take them with us traveling. Worth the investment, will save you a ton of pain. :-)

I AM A VASCULAR DOC

but have many associates that are orthos… got a few checkpoints to offer: this could be muscle strain, cervical osteoarthritis (don’t know your age), injury-trauma related, cartilage protrusion between cervical disks- these are most common causes. Therapy/treatment depends on source and cause of pain… wouldn’t try to diagnose over a blog. I definitely prescribe one thing though: 2 road wins at Starkville and Nashville! That helps any pain in the neck! GO CATS!

Regarding The Last Article Linked

The Minnesota team has lost its starting PG (academics) and been without its two PF all season (legal issues off the court).

Take away Wall, Cousins, Patterson from UK and results would be much different.

by FortyYearCatFan on Feb 15, 2010 10:28 AM EST reply actions

Yep.

No doubt true.

No Excuses

But losing PG and both PF bring more L than W no matter which team it is.

Once line caught my eye...
They also want to see good offensive flow.

Wasn’t that the same thing that most UK fans complained about?

I watched a couple of Minnesota's games

They just stood around and passed around the perimeter; totally ignoring the post until the shot clock ran out, then jacked up a horrible shot;just like when Tubby was here. Then, they hustled like there was no tommorow on defense, just like when…

"all the way"

by ro307805 on Feb 15, 2010 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

Not True At All

The Gophers (this year) have no inside game (both PF are unavailable) and their veteran PG is academically ineligible.

You ignore what you don’t have (post players).

by FortyYearCatFan on Feb 15, 2010 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly

For whatever reason they seem identical offensively to Tubby’s teams at UK. Four passes around the perimeter; and a horrible shot jacked up at the end of the shot clock; with the other side being some of the best defense anywhere. I love the ball-line defense.

"all the way"

by ro307805 on Feb 16, 2010 9:30 AM EST up reply actions

Not Accurate

Tubby had teams at UK that were strong in the post and others not as much.

Your characterization of ALL his teams at UK being like that is simply not accurate at all.

by FortyYearCatFan on Feb 16, 2010 11:00 AM EST up reply actions

Al Nolen

Big loss for Minnesota. Experienced PG was leading Big 10 in assists, ATO ratio, and steals before he became academically ineligible.

by FortyYearCatFan on Feb 15, 2010 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah ...

… he really was a critical loss for them. Tubby’s team has had a tough year with injuries and misbehavior. It has nothing to do with Smith’s coaching, IMO.

THREAT OF SNOW

in the ATL is way better than actual snow. Actually, snow didn’t materialize at all… I do miss KY, but do not miss lots of snow. Looking at 50-60s rest of week (cold at night, sunny days).

Road wins are a must… we could use the RPI boost (53rd in SOS!). Big Cuz keep bustin’ the boards, we have figured other ways to score- tho’ his points are nice too. Patty has got to get more aggressive, I opine. Anyway- Go CATS!

The Vaught article

on Liggins contains a hint at his problems earlier in the season. He says that he got a chance to focus on his academics and I believe that is why he didn’t play early on. He is maturing and should be a major contributor for the Cats the rest of his career.

Rondo's First All-Star Game

Being on the court at crunch time says a lot … and East won. Other is quod ut:

1) Vandy’s home court advantage is not gender specific.
2) A 1-1 week will be a success; 2-0 near miraculous; 0-2 sun though dimmed will rise.
3) Calipari to Nets? Dare not forget that egos are huge, money talks (see NCAA and 96 teams), new challenges are like new women, i.e. aphrodisiacal; and lotteries can be rigged.
4) Syracuse mentally and emotionally unprepared, Cards sought redemption — much like KU at UT and UK at USC. Margin for error is slim this year in NCAA.
5) D1 reality has reached Minneapolis.
6) FanPost coming: The Wall And The Missing “D”.

I know!

If it’s that easy, we should rally all UK fans next year around this time to write-in Jodie Meeks for the East, just to prove how bad it really is.

I like the idea of getting fans involved, but it should definitely be moderated a bit.

Point #2 is well voiced...

Only the 2nd time this year we’ve had two road games in the same week, last was FL & Aub… Much better competition this week, don’t expect the same results as last “road warrior” week! Agreed, 1-1 will be a success.

OK

I think my post was a reaction to today’s snow more than anything. (If they don’t plow my cul-de-sac tonight, I’m stuck, no matter how much I shovel my driveway)

Nonetheless, I worry about UK’s hype (come on, a snowman in the likeness of a 19 year old? — who some people equate with Jesus???).

Hype: Quite frankly, we’d be 25-0 if it weren’t for a #1 ranking and all the other hype that went on that week. IMO. USC is not our equal.

The sun would be great on a day like this. But, as a UK fan, I don’t want to fly too close to it.

by kywineman on Feb 15, 2010 1:51 PM EST reply actions

New Bracketology

Lunardi has Cats #1 overall versus play-in game winner in Houston; KU, Villanova and ‘Cuse other #1’s; only 3 SEC teams: UK, Vandy and UT.

Odd

Wonder why he would downgrade Kansas?

Last week he had us playing out West with Villanova and Syracuse in the East/South. Which would imply that he thought we were the 4th one seed just a week ago.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

by chirop1 on Feb 15, 2010 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

Yay!! Houston!!

As you may remember I have been keeping an eye on the bracketology, as well, but hadn’t seen the latest, so thanks, Weasel. Oh, how I would love for the above to be the final bracketology and for it to come to fruition on Selection Sunday. It would totally make my year.

I’m feeling a little lazy, or I would look myself in order to compare Lunardi’s last bracketology of 2009 with what the NCAA selection committee actually decided, so I’ll just ask the question here in the hopes that someone might know………..

There is lots of basketball left to be played and I’m sure the above will change a million times before now and March 14, but I’m curious — how accurate is Lunardi compared to what actually happens on selection Sunday?

by BigSkyCat on Feb 15, 2010 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

Lunardi Is 10th Best Bracketologist

ESPN/Leonardi 2009 Bracketology had a 307 out of 360 (perfect) score. #1 was Graph at 325. That’s 85 and 90% accuracy, perhaps enough to venture a ticket purchase.

"Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom" - Hayek

by Wild Weasel on Feb 15, 2010 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

Nice.

Yeah, it would have taken me forever to find the “ranking the bracketologists” thing.

I’m pretty impressed with Lunardi’s results and I’ll definitely keep watching his predictions now that I know for sure that he does a pretty darn good job.

However, when thinking about the whole thing realistically, I suppose I’ll have to live with the 25% chance that is reality of drawing a particular region for a NCAA tourney location, huh? I don’t really like those odds so much (25%), but I’ll have to live with them, I guess.

But, if I could just somehow get the entire BBN to say a collective prayer and pray that we draw the South (Houston for Regionals) as our region for this year’s NCAA tourney (you know, since the power of the BBN is so great and far-reaching AND I already have tickets to the Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight being held there : )) — well, that would be fantastic. : )

To KYguyin GA

I had to shovel a couple inches in north Cobb this weekend, but what a great day it is today. The (big) blue sky is so much better than the snow they were predicting. The Atlanta weathermen can’t stick their hands out the window and tell you if it’s raining, much less forecast what it’s going to do.

I may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

by UKCat on Feb 15, 2010 2:45 PM EST reply actions

UK uni's

If they were supposedly trying to go after a more “vintage” look, I don’t think they did a very good job of it. The design, in my opinion, is actually a little flamboyant—especially the mural on the backside. I do, however, like the graphic above the players name of the state.

I’m missing the uniforms that really portray what we are: WILDCATS! I loved the cat scratches down the sides of the shorts and the tall letters “KENTUCKY” across the front, above embroidered numbers in bold with the outline. Those have to go be my favorites.

by pinata89 on Feb 15, 2010 5:02 PM EST reply actions

And..

The new uniforms look almost uncomfortable to wear. The look to be 200% cotton, and the tops are way too skin tight. For Christ’s sake, Jon Hood looks like he’s an Abercrombie model when he plays.

Anyway, that’s enough about the uniforms for one day, haha. I think UK has some really tough games coming up. And believe it or not, I think Miller is going to have to step up his game, because team’s are now understanding the importance of Liggins and will begin to take note of that here down the stretch. Just a little production would be appreciated. We don’t need another one to turn into Ramon Harris (wish he could produce a little more as well) and become another body on the bench.

by pinata89 on Feb 15, 2010 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

Ramon Harris just a body on the bench??

Come on now, that’s harsh and just inaccurate. Liggins has taken many of his minutes lately, and rightly so with his fabulous play of late, but there’s no question Harris has contributed for this team, and Calipari himself has stated this more than once. I am like Big Sky Cat on DeMarcus Cousins about my Ramon Harris…you best lay off my boy!!!

Your Jon Hood as an Abercrombie model in the tight uni comment made me snort, though ;)

by blue kentucky girl on Feb 15, 2010 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

And exactly how

are the teams going to diminish the role of Liggins? Instruct their guys to shoot better against him? Tell them to outhustle him to the ball? He isn’t a significant enough part of our offense to warrant any special attention. Liggins off the bench is not something they can prepare for, just a nightmare they have to endure.
