New Newsfeed

In an attempt to continue to improve the relevance and focus of our newsfeed, the good folks at Google have provided me a vehicle to do so.  This has been around for some time, but it is a bit opaque and difficult to understand.  But after spending a few minutes on it this morning, I have figured out a way to deliver fresh content to the community via my Google RSS account.

I'll be monitoring the effectiveness of the news feed I am using, but I just want to point out that you can get a look at the entire feed, not just the top ten stories, by clicking on the "View all" link at the bottom.  I'll be fooling around more with this in the next few days, tweaking and adding new sources.

Getting effective, focused news that automatically updates on the site has been an ongoing mission of ours here at A Sea of Blue, and will continue to be.  We want to make sure that readers of this site are among the most informed fans on the Internet, and getting relevant news that constantly updates is an important part of that effort.

Thanks for reading, as always.  Go Cats!

I hope it doesnt slow the site down the way that SEC add-on did

the site now takes 3-5 times as long to load as it used to, and I have DSL. Anything that can be done with that Tru??

Nice to have these additional feeds, both game related and not, but site speed is really dragging……

Remember, we're having fun now!!!

It shouldn't.

I just took the old one off, and it was javascript powered also. I think Google’s is likely to be faster.

The load times are a trade-off. I can remove the SEC highlights and speed it up quite a bit, or leave them there. Perhaps I’ll do a user poll to see what’s to be done. I kind of like them, but they do slow down the site.

One thing you can do is use a flash-blocking add-on and block that thing. But the real problem is the ads that we have — too many of them are heavy flash-driven monsters that really impact load times.

But we gotta pay the bills somehow.

Limited understanding...

Tru, running a search on this page for “view all” only comes up with what you typed in the second paragraph of the Fanpost… Looked at this post in both IE and Firefox, any hints?? Thx!

Are you clicking on the view all link

in the news wire section at the left side of the front page Eagle? Mine is working with FF. :-) Oh, it doesn’t automatically open in new tab on it’s own, just a tip on that.

Look on the left sidebar ...

… under “Tru’s Wildcat News Feed,” and look at the bottom of that box.

For all of your hard work...

Thank you.

Been a long time reader (minimal poster) – since the days of JL. And I’ve been meaning to post a note of thanks for a while now. Your posts throughout last year’s season alleviated the pain and this year have added to joy of being a UK fan. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Very much appreciated.

Okay Tru,

I have been watching and checking your new Google news reader thingy. The majority of the links are to KSR. Is that the best we can do? LOL
Checking on Matt is not on my daily to-do-list. Sometimes I go there with a link from here, but a blog site where the readers compete to post a "I’m first " comment is not really informative, IMO, and no where near as talented as ASoB. I have nothing against them, but can you tweak that? Just askin’

Don't read the comments at KSR

It is best to avoid them.

First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
