ESPN Gameday Open Thread
Sorry I didn't think about it earlier.
Looks like ESPN Gameday for basketball has just set a new record at Rupp Arena. I saw a few empty seats in the very tippy top, but it is packed.
The decibel reader went past the point of pain when they asked for noise. Heh.
As a special bonus, after the jump, there are a few links to talk about.

Interpreting the Pitino rumors - Beyond the Arc - msnbc.com
It wasn’t that long ago Rick Pitino was fending off other rumors that contained "absolutely no truth."
You know, the ones from last spring?

Pitino spared embarrassment in face of rejection - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com
As for Pitino specifically, just use common sense.
He's stuck in a tough league in a city where he's now more famous for an affair than basketball. John Calipari is right down the road, recruiting pros and chatting with President Obama, and every time Pitino travels to opposing arenas, he's greeted with chants of "Karen Sypher."

Two things:
-Is there a UK mascot job application form online?
-I’m scared of the game tonight, with all the hoopla going on today. Reminiscent of the stuff surrounding the SC game. Not making predictions, but I’m scared.
"The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena . . .who spends himself for a worthy cause . . ."
This could be a tough game.
But I think the crowd will pull us through.

It scares me a little too,
but the team isn’t part of it (?). At least not in the main hoopla spotlight, hopefully.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Super League of All Living Presidents
I heard they are making a collective conference call to the team this afternoon. They realized it is a way to make money.
Call the team, freak ’em out and then bet against them.
Seriously –
No Rocky Top tonight. Cuz lays the smack down hard and early, UT gets behind and starts to run to catch up and Wall lights them up in trans for 29 and SportsCenter has to choose between three other-worldly plays for the top ten.
Changing how you think will change what you think.
UK has responded very well at home this season with big hype...
ie…Drexel and Arkansas

the rest of the schedule scares me
the teams, their desire to beat the Cats, road games, revenge games, some games too close together, that stupid floor at Vandy… frankly, this is the part of the schedule I have been dreading all year.

I agree that all the remaining regular season games will very difficult...
we may lose a game or two. In addition, Coach Cal will be challenged to keep the freshman, sophomores and jc player focused and fresh. There is a chance for things to unravel but… in my opinion, we are talented enough to get through this stretch and still earn at least a 2 seed in the big dance.
The team is obviously talented and still improving. UK is in good position to weather the home stretch of the regular season. These games will prove to be great training and preparation for both the SEC tournament and the NCAA.

Does anyone know ....
If we have ever had the outline of the state on our jerseys before?
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
I love how Cal
pointed out that most of the people there this morning don`t have tickets to the game,so basically another 23-24 thousand will show up tonight. : )
He never misses an opportunity ...
… to hype the fan participation at UK. I think that’s cool.

Did Cal try to recruit Jay Bilis's Brother..???

Anyone know..?

ok...
..So, is he recruiting Jay as an assistant..? That would be a great recruiting tool… Jay is very well known and respected…

I Couldn't Be More Proud
The 20,000 plus who showed up for Gameday did us all proud. And to think most of those don’t have tickets for the game means over 40,000 Cat fans in and out of Rupp today when the temp is under 10 degrees and snow everywhere. This leaves no doubt (as if we didn’t know already) that Lexington,Kentucky is the college basketball capital of the world. GO CATS!!!!!
And this ...
UKAthleticsNews
Attendance for ESPN College GameDay in Lexington was 22,144 fans, nearly triple GameDay’s previous record.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Game Day to Syracuse before the end of the year
They can seat 30,000 in their football stadium they make a basketball stadium. I wonder if they can beat our record today.
Despite the extra capacity, we have won the attendence title — what 15 of last 16 years? I know if it absurd.
Pitino to the Nets.
It’s inevitable. He wants to coach John Wall next year :-)
The only time the Mets win is in the offseason.
RP can't be looking forward to the "CUSE " today. RP should have known this was going to be...
a long year with all the monkey business from last spring.
Man
Gotta give y’all credit. That scene for GameDay was incredible. Props for that.

Oh, that headline on the Leslie article

My Fellow Big Blue Nationites......
Throughout history men have spent most of their lives preparing for what they say is a defining moment. They gird their loins for battle, meticulously paying attention to every little detail in the study of their opponent. They research every weakness, every strength, their tendencies and habits, their level of preparation and intensity, all in an effort to see the future, to know when their opponent will go left or right, up or down, drive the lane or pull up for the jumper, or telegraph the pass that can be intercepted and sent up court for an easy two. Our Wildcats are at this point. They are strong, determined, athletic and gifted. They make impossible passes, unbelievable shots, and show unfathomable insight to a game which can boggle the mind of even the most gifted of athletes. But this is not why they will triumph, this is not why they will not be denied the prize that has eluded the University of Kentucky lo these many years.
They will triumph because they are men among boys. Garbed in the Kentucky Blue and White. They are honed to a razor’s sharp edge by the man that has made this team his destiny. This is not a job, or even a profession, it is a dream. A position awaits at the top of Mt. Olympus beside the Titans and Gods of old. Placed there by the hands of those as mighty as Zeus himself. He has thunder and a lightning bolt at his side. He has been denied his place among the mightiest of the mighty for far too long. He is battle scarred and wise, knowing that victory is all too fleeting, and that the bitter taste of defeat is far too acrimonius a drink for his palate. He will drive, push, cajole, drag, scratch and claw his troops to get them to follow his commands. He will smile and stare at the enemy as he looks for any crack in their armour, any advantage he can gain, whether it be of the mind or the body. He will not be found wanting again when the greatest are summoned to meet and regale their stories of victory and triumph over the less worthy.
This is not a time to shrink away from the glory that awaits us. We must be ever vigilant in our endeavours to give our troops all the support they need to lay low the pretenders to the throne, however many there may be. We will be firm in our resolve, arrogant in our manner, and omnipotent in our presence as we retake the mantle which fate came in and stole from us like a thief in the night. This is the charge of the Wildcats, to be more in sum than they are in part, to be the standard by which future defenders of the crown are measured by. And in doing so make the world right again. To give pause to those who would seek to do harm to us or somehow lessen the glory of the heights to which we must resume. This is not a game to these young warriors, this is a milestone by which they will be measured throughout time. This is their moment, their epic battle, their once in a lifetime chance to become immortal in the eyes of the world. And they will not falter, they will not stumble in the field of conflict because this is their time. Glory has come to them and their Commander. And we must will them to victory. Damn the torpedoes and may the heavens fall if necessary to fulfill the destiny that is placed before them. We Are Kentucky, We Are Legend.
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
