Pitino’s chances of not going to the NETS non-existent. LOL and so true.
I will piss you off if you're skin is made of tissue
Cards lose big at St. Johns this evening....
Pitino not the right fit for the Nets…he is aging, bad PR with the crazy lady, and big strain on wife.
I
Hard to argue your point...I think Rick and his wife still reside in the same house...
so it’s got to be a living hell and very stressful-which he created.

On John Clay's Sidelines Blog
He put up a tweet from Ian O’Connor (a highly respected sports writer) as saying Pitino is “desperate to get out” of Louisville because he doesn’t want to have his head handed to him by UK every year.
No sources are cited, but if true, perhaps Pitino would be interested in the St. Johns job that will possibly be open in March. He would then have gone from the King of the Bluegrass, to an after-thought in the Big Apple … all in 13 short years. The guy literally had it made at UK …

LOL!
I don’t know now, if they are in need of a resurgence, as they have been since Carnesecca left, then Pitino might not be their man:)

Not since then. Gobs of NYC talent going elsewhere. If SJU can keep some of it home…

Is there "Gobs of NYC talent"????
Sheer population and a geographic/demographic skew towards basketball over football/baseball for youngsters as they grow up would lead me to believe that there must be, but I can’t remember the last “big” recruit from NYC.
Last year, the best guy from the City was Lance Stephenson and he’s not exactly been setting the world on fire at Cincy.
Just seems odd to me.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
UK has had success with NYC players
but I agree that they are overratted. Boyd County beat a procession of over hyped programs in the 80’s such as Boy’s and Girls HS, in the "Great Southern Contest of champions " tournament, Oak Hill Academy in the 82’ BCHS hoilday invitation tournament, etc. But they are very exposed, so easy to evaluate talent from there. I saw a HS team from NYC that was supposedly the No. 1 team in the country on ESPN U. They could not have beaten Henry Clay on a down year. No fundamentals. Yet beacause of the hype, I watched their guards pound dents in the floor for 90 mins while the announcers tried to convince me how great thses guys were.

MVP - at this point, I agree with Larry Glover
Wall has been brilliant at times. He is definitely the class of the SEC in guard play (with a respectful nod to Devon Downey), but in my mind, it seems that Cuz has taken over. Vaught makes a compelling argument for Patterson, and I am not unswayed by it. But it seems to me that Cousins has been as solid as a rock this year producing points, rebounds, blocks and anchoring the middle of both UK’s offense and defense. Without Patterson in a given game, we’d have to make some very serious adjustments, and the same goes for Wall. But without Cuz, what would we do?
We're all just a banana peel away from eternity.
ICQ: 591535544
Yahoo IM: jacksbrain
In my view
I don’t think there is any doubt Cousins in UK’s MVP. Not taking anything away from Wall, he’s been mostly fabulous, but Cousins has been otherwordly.
And yet at the end of the game
I’d want the ball in Wall’s hands instead of Cousins.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Glad to hear about Tee Martin-
He will be a good fit at UK. He’s a winner, and very familar with Randy Sanders. Probably will help in recruiting. I will enjoy telling my orange blooded co-workers about it.

I dont suppose Tee Martin could provide a little insight into how to beat UT could he?
We get all 5 of those McDonalds All Americans added to our recruiting class for next year and Calipari will get the money to build a new arena with…….lol…..write it down….
Cal told all of us that Liggins was going to be a big part of all this early this year and no one believed him…..hmph.
I really hope that no one is counting on beating us to get into the tournament…….cause it aint happening anymore…..Tomorrow night about 11:30 it is going to be really crazy in Lexington….I dont recommend getting out on the streets unless you have to……lol

We had dinner reservations for Saturday night, but when she realized that it would be tough for us to make it home from Louisville in time to watch the game, she told me to cancel.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Ditto on the Wife Comment
We were planning a romantic Valentine’s day dinner at a cozy beach restaurant. Instead, she agreed to join our local UK alumni club to watch the game at a sports bar. Of course, she knew what she was getting into when she married me, as I made her—a Florida girl— memorize and recite UK’s starting line up before our second date. She did pretty well, but always got hung up on Ed Davender.
Anyway…Cousins has my MVP vote as well, although there is a lot of basketball left to be played.
Escape to New York
Not only did a rapidly aging Rick Pitino get turned down cold after making overtures to a new love interest, but now he knows who the most recent apple of his eye really is interested in. Mike Krzyzewski. Not that K is going to take the job. Which has to sting Pitino even more.
This New York has-been is going to have to find some other way to escape back to the big city and avoid spending the sunset years of his coaching career relegated to playing second fiddle in the state of…. Kentucky. Not the way he used to dream of ending his coaching career, I am sure.

Hard
times are showing on the face of RP….more than ever it seems. He is truly aging “badly” in looks, personal behaviors and in team performance. I remember his appearance on the Charlie Rose show the Monday before he left Kentucky. Same’ole’same’ole not interested…best house…I ever had…best job in the world…more money than I need…yada yada. And he was gone. Then he got on my unforgivable list a second time by coming “home to Kentucky”. Hah! The Karma turns however. We may have had two more championships and that is hard to forgive him for but today….wouldn’t trade where the BBN is for RP staying.
I would love to see him stall out in the pros and the Nets are a good place to do that.
CAWebb, he does appear to have entered
.
the “Crypt Keeper” stage of his career…

"Rapidly aging?"
I’m betting he pretty much ages like the rest of us — one day at a time.
Pitino is a very competitive person. He would not run from the competition Calipari is going to bring.

I Think He Has Lost Some Of His Fire
Coaches approaching 60 (years old) sometimes do that.
by FortyYearCatFan on Feb 13, 2010 11:13 AM EST up reply actions
"one day at a time" is certainly literally true,
but to see the effects of stress and job pressure on an individual, take a look at the inauguration pictures of any president versus one taken at the end of a four-year term. It’s striking.
The pressure of coaching any leading college program is certainly heavy, but when personal and family stresses enter the equation at the level Coach Pitino has faced the last year, the results are visible.
There’s age and there’s AGE.
"The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena . . .who spends himself for a worthy cause . . ."
You have never seen the effects of
“hard living” or intensified stress take a toll on someone and accelerate wearing them down?
Seriously? In all your life? That is very interesting, Tru. Hint: Rick Pitino is what it looks like.
And yes, of course Pitino is very competitive and still a good coach (his team was a No. 1 seed just last year), and could certainly beat us (and coach Cal) in the future- we all know that he is still capable. But this is sports, Tru. I do not really think that Pitino now looks exactly like the Crypt Keeper. Sometimes one exaggerates just a wee bit in order to tweak an opponent in the sports arena.
Or have you never heard of that, either?

It's also why
Keith Richards looks like he is 212, and Courtney Love about 54.
After years of appearing reasonably youthful (work on his hair notwithstanding), Pitino just looks like his age now. Or more.

I think Pitino ...
… has not exactly been doing that much “hard living”
I think he has had a great life, for the most part. I also think that he looks about right for his age. Maybe a little better than about right. In fact, I hope I look as good at 60. I’m not sure I look as good right now, in fact.
So that’s why I’m puzzled. It isn’t as if he’s an alcoholic or has a drug problem. I’m sure the stress of this year has made him feel a bit older, but to my eyes, he looks just fine.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
I think youre right, and knowing Pitino, he will bounce back stronger than ever.....
this season is a lost cause for him, and although I do not agree with how he handled the situation, it probably was the best he could make of it as it is. Rick Pitino will endure, either on the floor with a team or in the booth. If he decides to retire and put on the headphones, it will be a struggle to see who gets more grief, him or the General.
It would not surprise me to see him do it though, he could stay on the road, which he loves, stay close to the sport which I know he loves, and who knows, maybe he turns out to be one of the good ones at being an analyst. God knows he has enough knowledge to do the job.
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I agree with Sonic on this one.
To me, those in very high-stress positions just seem to age far harder than the rest of us. Ever notice how presidents seem to age decades over the course of a 4 or 8 year term? Obama has sprouted grey hair just in the past year…I don’t think that’s a coincidence : ) I think Tubby looks younger now than he did in the last two years as UK. Pitino doesn’t look BAD by any means…for a normal whatever-year-old, he looks great. He’s a handsome man—still. But yeah, I think he has the drawn, worn-down and, yes, aged look that an insane amount of stress and frequent late nights working can do to you.

Is Cal too NBA-oriented?
I think that Cal is using the media every chance he gets (marketing) to send a message to every possible recruit, that KY is where they need to be. I think it is quite genius. He is constantly selling UK’s program as the greatest stepping stone, with fun along the way. (It is what most young players dream of, to play in the NBA, sooner or later). You know it.
Also, seriously…..Do you think that in today’s college basketball game, hanging the coveted number 8, which Cal really wants to do, from the rafters is possible without having several NBA talent-worthy players on the court at the same time? Even if it isn’t for 4 years? I think not.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
NBA talent laden teams in today's basketball
I think its what we need to have. A team like Carolina’s last year will be a bit of a rarity. Instead, what you’ll need is a team like Kansas this year. A handful of veterans with pro (but not lottery) potential that needs a few key pieces (like Xavier Henry) to push them over the edge.
This year’s Kentucky team is truly special with the level of talent, but I think Cal’s true masterpiece could come in two years. Seniors DeAndre Liggins, Darius Miller, and Darnell Dodson. Juniors Daniel Orton and Jon Hood. A couple of solid sophomores who weren’t one and done from this coming recruiting class. And a freshman class rated top 5 in the nation again.
The answer to the NBA question on our rosters will be to get a mix of players who are one and done and others who are NBA caliber, but not surefire immediate pros.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

My subjective opinion is: Of course he is not too NBA oriented.
To me, being “too NBA oriented” is the same as being “too TALENT oriented”.
I am very much in favor of the latter, so I have no problem with the former.

I like your new sig line too. The ad was clever, and may sell a few Doritos. :-)
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Yeah, that little kid really cracked me up!
.
But it hasn’t really inspired me to buy any Dorito’s. I have never really liked them too much.
I agree that a good mixture of maybe a single one-and-done, a couple of potential lottery picks, a couple of potential first rounders, and a couple of all-heart role players would be pretty good. But those things are pretty hard to make assumptions about and piece together BEFORE they all get on campus.
Two examples from this year are: (1) how concerns about how Wall and Bledsoe would be together turned out to not amount to anything and (2) how DC went from a player early in the season who appeared as if he may need to come back for one more season, to an absolute beast.
Those things weren’t really known until they got on campus and started playing.
Any group of young men is going to have to learn to mesh together and put egos aside, etc. etc. My opinion is that since there is going to be that transition anyway, we might as well get the most talented group as possible on campus— and then just blend from there. We could be pleasantly surprised, like this year. I would not see any reason to ever try to anticipate too much about personalities, etc. and in any way scale back going after the best talent.

Especially as I see every school with a Nike contract trotting them out. Hell, St. Johns was wearing them last night against UofL. UConn, Syracuse, and Texas have already been spotted with them.
