My Washington Huskies Preview @ CoachCal.com

The Huskies pose quite a challenge for the 'Cats.  Coach Lorenzo Romar plays a lot of people, they take and make a very high percentage of three-pointers, play pressure defense, and crash the boards with abandon.  For my take on Washington at CoachCal.com, go here.

Shame that Wall couldn't play in this game

Because we would have had a guaranteed minimum 3-4 highlight-reel plays. Washington is going to want to play an open-court game, the type in which Wall’s turbocharger goes into overdrive. Hopefully Brandon Knight can avoid the turnover problems from yesterday and do a decent Wall imitation.

Washington has looked magnificent so far this year, and yeah, if they hit 17-26 threes, or anywhere near that range, UK is going down hard. However, I think Washington’s style is going to play right into UK- Washington has some mighty fine athletes who thrive in a transition game, but I suspect that UK’s athletes are even better. Give athletes like that a lot of open court plays (which Washington does by shooting so quickly), and they’re right in their comfort zone.

The depth and experience advantage the Huskies have might be too much to overcome, but I think, barring a horrendous shooting night by one team or the other, its going to be a close, entertaining game. Any way it goes, UK fans should keep in mind that this Washington team could turn out to be the best opponent UK faces all regular season.

Hey Ken ... great write-up

I know these teams like to run …any chance Cal will try to slow things up and control tempo?

When a teams puts up 100 points and averages only 10 turnovers (like UW does) …it will be tough for any team to stop … I thought our guys were really lacking on transtion defense last night … if something doesn’t change, UW will get plenty of open looks from 3 point land in transition – which could real trouble

Thanks ukcris

Don’t think Cal will try to slow tempo. Also, although UW is very tough, they’ve accumulated their stats against mediocre (at best) competition.

I think the Cats go down tonight, though … probably be good for them.

Very happy to be wrong, especially after seeing the poor sportsmanship by

Gant during the pregame intros. Bush league stuff.

This Kentucky team is mature, very mature (and tougher than I thought they would be) considering their lack of experience and age. I came away very impressed, but frustrated at their gawd-awful FT shooting. But, they made ’em when it mattered most.
