Kentucky Basketball: Enes In Chains
This article is not about ripping the NCAA for not giving UK what it wanted. This is not about the process that declared him ineligible. This article is what it means to Kentucky. This article will proceed with the assumption (likelihood, really) that Kanter's appeal will be denied by the NCAA. Coach Calipari put it this way, and I hope all UK fans will take it to heart:
"I think our fans get to (thinking), 'Why is the NCAA doing this to us?' They're not doing it to us, they're trying to figure this out," the coach said. "I want the kid to play tomorrow but I want (the NCAA) to get it right."
So lets move on to what this means.
I know that the conventional wisdom is that Kentucky is not going to be championship contender without Kanter. That may be so. It may be that Kentucky can find no rebounding, no inside presence, and no post defense without Kanter. It may be that neither Eloy Vargas nor Josh Harrellson can develop into serviceable replacements for Enes Kanter.
If that is so, we can expect Calipari to do what any coach would do in his shoes -- play his most talented, athletic players and try to out-athlete and out-talent the competition. We have seen this before, and it works, and can even work very well, but usually not well enough to get a team all the way to the Final Four. But there is always a first time.
If Harrellson and/or Vargas are able to become serviceable, and even competent post players, Kentucky could potentially be much better than they would be without them. The two biggest factors that will be problematic for Kentucky will be rebounding and post defense, and neither of those two specific statistical categories are outside the theoretical ability of either man. The question is, how close can either one get to that archetype?
The Dribble Drive Motion is not terribly demanding of big men, other than to use their bodies to their advantage and run the floor in transition. I think Harrellson and Vargas are capable of growing into DDM big men if they will forget about themselves and sacrifice their bodies for the team. Harrellson is the most likely to be willing to do this right away, but that's not enough. If Vargas doesn't experience a Liggins-like epiphany and cast his personal desires away, it will be hard for UK to consistently run the DDM. There is little chance that Harrellson can manage it alone.
Running the DDM with Terrance Jones or Darius Miller at the 5 is not really an option. Neither of these guys have sufficient size to rebound the basketball consistently against bigger players, or the attitude required to perform that way as an undersized player. What it would require is a Dennis Rodman or a Chuck Hayes -- guys with either the weirdness or strength of personality, along with the athleticism, to do the little things that stars like Kentucky has do not want to do. Harrellson may be willing, but in many cases, he will be out-athleted. Does he have the strength of will to overcome those limitations? So far, I'd have to say it's doubtful. But I'm not ruling him out.
Vargas is a better athlete, but he does not like contact. That's a deal-killer, and unless he can find his inner Undertaker and decide to learn to be physical, and that in a hurry, he will not be able to help Kentucky much this year. A big body who doesn't have the relentlessness or strength to battle down low is just a liability in the DDM.
This news will require Calipari to rethink how he plays his players. I'm sure he has been doing this for a while now, but he has to consider the likely reality that Enes Kanter will not be walking through that door. The DDM looks like the way to go now, since he has the personnel to implement that offense, and I expect that he will. He will undoubtedly also throw in some hybrid offense and make some defensive adjustments, possibly even some zone to help hide their lack of size on defense. To my knowledge, Calipari has never consistently run a zone defense, so this may be a learning experience for him as well as his young charges.
Looking at the positives, this team will be similar sizewise to the 2006 Villanova Wildcats team that featured Randy Foye, Allan Ray, Mike Nardi, Kyle Lowry and Will Sheridan. All that team did was go 28-5 and get to the Elite Eight before losing to the eventual national champion Florida Gators. One difference is, these players are freshman and Villanova was juniors and seniors. Another difference is, this Kentucky team is much more talented than Villanova was, despite their youth.
In the end, this season is going to be far more demanding on Calipari than last season was. Not only must he figure out how to win without a post presence, he must do so mostly with freshmen. Remember the old Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times?"
Calipari is living it.

I would say the higher end of 20-24 without him
and somewhere between 25 and 29 if he had been ruled eligible.
You can always count on Tru...
Great article man – even-handed and right on the money – hope the DDM is that right!

Fair and Balanced, except...
You try and do what is best for your kids… jump thru all of the hoops… make all of the sacrifices and do all of the documentation… your in a foreign country, trying to learn a language you don’t speak, playing by someone else’s rules… and, then, the agenda of another sinks your ship… the governing power making the decisions uses no common sense nor do they even want to see the hidden financial travisty that belies the outcome…
Let's not forget
One of the most beloved UK teams of all time was Rupp’s Runts of 1965-66. I know that was a different time in college basketball, much different than today. I also know that team was stocked with two juniors, two very sacrificing seniors, and a talented sophomore (freshmen were not eligible then), so that they were more experienced than this team. But, an outstanding coach demanded and received excellent play from a group of undersized players to the tune of only one loss in the regular season, a number one national ranking, and a heartbreaking loss in the final game of the NCAA tournament.
This year’s team is far more athletic, though probably not as skilled, as that group. We can still expect big things from the approach Cal designs for them and his ability to get them to execute. There will be games in which lack of experience will prove to be our downfall. But this group will learn, and learn quickly.
I seriously don’t look for Cal to run much zone defense this year. It is just not who he is nor what he is comfortable teaching.
This is still a good team
Yes, we have some potential holes underneath, and in some cases the matchups are just going to kill us – we’ll lose some games.
But we’re still more talented than the vast majority of clubs out there. We have good basketball players.
So I say we win 25-29 games, and get a 3-4 seed in the tourney. And then you get the right matchups. . .
I was just thinking of a warm body to give those two a rest ... 5 extra fouls if nothing else
Stinks … but, at least we know what ‘s in front of us … NCAA didn’t make a snap decision and we wont forfeit any games …. I feel bad for Enes – seems like a real good kid

yeah,
not so sure how sorry I feel for him. I mean sure, he wanted to play at UK and get the whole Division-1-basketball + college life experience a shot, and for that I guess it’s too bad, but in the long run, I’m not really shedding too many tears for him. Maybe one or two, but other than that, well, he’ll be just fine.
Once he turns 19 (next May, I believe) well, he’ll be eligible to enter the NBA draft (that’s the draft and NBA as the rules stand right now) and he’ll be just fine as that (the NBA) was his ultimate desired destination anyway. I guess the only thing I think that is unfortunate for him is that if he was hoping to improve his draft stock by playing against Div 1 competition under what is now quite widely known as “getting-players-well-prepared-for-the-NBA-John-Calipari”, well, that’s unfortunate, but I’m sure that if he continues to practice (and he will be able to practice with our team, as I understand it) well, he can still work on his game, it just won’t be against a lot of different Div. 1 competition, just our boys. In the end, he’ll be fine.
I believe he can practice pending the appeal.
But if it’s denied, that’s it. Odd, isn’t it? He wasn’t able to practice yesterday while they decided, but now that they’ve decided against him, he can practice. I’m having flashbacks to Catch-22.

Nice Article.
I really needed something to read after the bad news. Thanks for the perspective.
I am going to try to remain positive. It is tough after last year because it was so great to be back. This year can be seen as the year to build. We just signed the top recruiting class for 2011 yesterday. So I would love for this years cats to shake the pressure and just play. We can win with this team because we have some big time scoring. Better shooting than last year. But we will take some losses too. This can be an important year for Cal and the players who will return. Plus that may be all of them if there is a lockout in the NBA.
My biggest complaint now is we have to suffer through a year that is going to be all about Duke. I try not to think about it but it creeps in like a headache. I plan to ignore the hype as much as possible and just enjoy their losses.
I think UK can win some big games this year. We will be fun to watch.
Let's not forget
the effort the ’92 team gave against the highly ranked and eventual champion Dukies. Would like to see a rematch (what odds will you give right now that if we make the NCAA this year, we will be put in the bracket with Duke?) with about 2 seconds of good defense on our part at the end of the game.
I woke up feeling BLUE this morning. It's gonna be a great day.

"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
Look folks, we knew that this was a possibility from the get go. We will endure.
Just as the men and women we honor today for their service to this country and the institutions they represent, we will endure. We will not only get through this, but we will hold the scalps of our enemies on our hands as scream from the rooftops to them about who we are and why we are the best there is at what we do. And when we do find those who would be responsible for laughter in the face of our time of difficulty, they too shall be brought forth as we demand not just satisfaction but retribution.
We have the best in the land here, and Enes was but one part of that package. I hate it for the young man and what he has gone through to try and make this happen. But anyone who is familiar with the University of Kentucky knows that when it gets tough around here, we simply double our efforts and make it that much harder on everyone else.
Cal has done a lot with a whole lot less than what we have this year. It is going to be fun watching him make people look bad trying to keep up. And when we are done with that group in Maui, I am going to enjoy the laugh I get remembering all those who decided to run their mouths at the present time.

Naturally I’m looking forward to Maui, but I would have much preferred UK had Kanter. My guess is that you will still be favored, but the story line loses some shine without the big guy.
One thing UK does have is athletic depth. Most teams will run out of gas before you do, and even a small team can win 85-90% of it’s games. Come tournament time, anything can happen. Good luck.
Should be a good game.

Another fine poetic and to the point piece. No joke this time. I’m serious. Well put and well written. Greg, I’m reminded of a quote, which I can’t remember from whom it came, but it is like this: “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

Will UK keep him on scholarship this year? If so, will Enes stay in school this year just to be a student?
I dont know if they will or not, but I think it would be a nice gesture on the school's part

Who else would they give it to? (Not meant to be sarcastic:)
I would be highly, highly disappointed if they don’t.
It seems arbitrary, doesn't it?
The amount, I mean. Sidney and family received $11,800 for “personal gain” and apparently lied about it. He can play later this year. Kanter received $33,033 and couldn’t have been more forthcoming and willing to sacrifice. Yet he’s banned for life.
If “the consequences of receiving payments above his actual expenses [are] not compatible with the collegiate model of sports that our members have developed,” how is Sidney’s case any different in theory? How does his case fit this “developed” model? And pray, what is the magic number: $12,000, $18,000, $25,000?
Whatever the rules, the NCAA must apply them fairly across all member institutions. The Reinstatement Committee will not want the courts to review whether it has drawn an arbitrary line with Kanter. Unfortunately, the NCAA press release is a poor substitute for a formal decision. If there’s a good reason for distinguishing these cases, I’d like to hear it.
Yeah, that's right.
I’m a little uncomfortable with the reasoning. How much is the difference between a lifetime ban and a number of games?
Apparently, about 20k.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
Remeber, the NCAA is setting precendent here ...
This serves to let future “over seas players who want to play NCAA ball” type people know where the line is
Setting precedent doesn't give you the freedom to do whatever you want.
If you draw a line, it can’t be arbitrary and capricious. There must be a rational connection between the facts found and the decision made. Here, if you set aside the ethics violation, the apparent distinction between Sidney and Kanter isn’t one of nature – both received impermissible benefits – it’s one of degree. And that makes for a slippery slope. If you allow one kid to play after receiving X dollars in impermissible benefits, how do you disallow the kid who receives X+Y dollars? What is the rational connection between Y dollars ($21,233) and “the collegiate model of sports that our members have developed”? That’s what the NCAA would have to justify to my satisfaction if I were the judge. But again, there may be a perfectly good reason; it’s just not apparent from the press release.
Here’s what the same Kevin Lennon said about Sidney’s punishment: “Our members have made it crystal clear that student-athletes who receive impermissible benefits, either directly or indirectly, and who lie to the NCAA must be held accountable.” Having been held accountable on both counts, Sidney will play NCAA basketball later this year.
Wheatgerm
“What is the rational connection…………..” There is none. Why? Because there are no absolutes that the NCAA goes by. A bad, bad situation. Here’s why: when I was youngster it didn’t matter if one told a “little white lie” or a
“great big fat purple one”, it was lying and one recieved the same punishment as the other.
This showed the teller of “little whites lies” that he would not get anymore consideration than his opposite did. How much less damage does one do than the other? My point is that the NCAA needs to adopt a policy of “what’s
sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.” In other words as far as is humanly possible treat everyone alike, no
exceptions.
Human judgement is flawed at best. This is why we have rules, policies, laws etc. Once these guidelines are established, adhere to them.

I think the NCAA was afraid that ....
hundreds of coaches had their wagons gassed up like settlers at the Oklahoma land rush …. all of them ready to go and pounce on the Turkish leagues or any other foreign league and try to flood the NCAA with approvals for forein players like Enes Kanter. Meanwhile the kid from Anytown, USA who’s parents have been struggling to support him through AAU leagues, now has to compete with overseas leagues for a college basketball scholarship.

A very good point and possibility, Cris. However, I’m still not convinced that the NCAA is that humane.

Mike DeCourcy's article at Sporting News
Says the Turkish club paid the Kanters $33,033 for educational expenses, of which the Kanters only expended about $20,000, and the rest is in a bank account. The Kanters offered to repay ALL of it, including what they spent on education. Says the NCAA ruled that the club itself would have had to pay the educational expenses instead of giving the $$ to the Kanter family to do so.
Nit, consider yourself picked.
All I can say is, “Renardo Sidney.”
This UK team will compete and be very exciting...
lets hope that translates into wins. They are still young, weak inside and are going to have to grow up quick with the schedule forthcoming. I think this team will be a 20+ game winner. They won some very close games last season with that talent. This season it remains to be seen which way those games will go. I am super pumped for the opener.
And btw…..how excited would we be if Daniel Orton was the starting center?
Slower Traffic Keep Right!
Well that's a punch in the gut
I wasn’t even expecting Kanter to play this year and I still feel let down.
It seriously wouldn’t surprise me to see UK win anywhere from 20 – 30 games this year. There’s just so much uncertainty about how they will do. Sure they have talent, but sometimes that alone isn’t enough (just look at UNC last year).
Still, I’m exciting about the season. I want Miller to grab the Team Leader Mantle. I want to see Knight knife through defenses and get to the rim. I want to see TJ display the full power of his versatility. I want to watch Liggins have a discombobulating influence on the opponent’s offense. I want Harrellson to own the defensive glass. I want to see what these guys can do that I can’t even think of.
3 > 2, except for very large values of 2.

While we cannot see the future,
we might be lucky and not even know it (to paraphrase a line from one of my favorite movies). If this team enjoys less success than last years’ and, thus, less press salivating over our freshmen, maybe more of them will stay for a second season and give us some experience to go with next year’s class. We could be getting set up for number 8 while we are anguishing over short term misfortune.

Personally, I think that anything over 20 wins would be a plus
Sadly, teams will exploit our inside. Jorts+Eloy<Enes. And, with no backups, those 2 will be fouled out often. Unless something akin to a miracle happens and Eloy gets a LOT tougher/meaner, SEC big men especially will have a field day. Jorts has the heart, but sadly, not the skills. Anyway, it’s gonna be an interesting yr. WE can score, but can nwe stop the other team? GO CATS!

As most of you know
I didn’t think Enis would play. I hoped for the better and now at least we know. It would have been awful to wait 3to4 more weeks for this news. I’m not worried about offense. But the defense at the 5 and getting them relief when in foul trouble now becomes big. We sure enough are not ready for Maui! The distraction on a young team will be tremendous!

I don't know what happened here^
I was on record of thinking Enis would not be eligible. I was hoping I was wrong. At least he wasn’t strung along for 3-4 weeks more. Now we find out why Cal didn’t want to go to Maui. They aren’t ready for this caliber talent and the mass distraction on Maui.

I feel sad for Enes Kanter
This is an unfortunate turn of events for Enes Kanter, but I’m sure he’ll manage and will put all of this behind him. Good luck Enes.
Beyond that, I think this may end up being a unique situation for John Calipari in that this may be the one season at UK where he gets a pass. Expectations must now be lowered. Nonetheless, I think this might be a really fun season for UK fans. This will be a talented, albeit unconventional team. If they accept their limitations and outwork their opponents for forty minutes every game they may wind up being a very memorable team. Until proven otherwise, I’m going to take a positive attitude.
ncaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what is 33000 that is not pro money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I said in the other thread
Any money is pro money. I don’t understand what the confusion is.
33K is certainly not NBA money, but it is more than comparable to the amount of money you would get while playing for any number of “professional” leagues around the world.
Hell, he made almost 3 times as much as some NBA D-League players.
Average NBA D-League Salary
•According to a 2007 report by National Public Radio, the average NBA D-League salary ranges from $12,000 to $24,000 a season. The report also stated that while NBA players are paid $100 a day for expenses when they are traveling to and from road games, NBA D-League players are paid only $30.00.
Just because he wasn’t being paid DeMarcus Cousins type money, doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a professional.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Another Take
TCP offers thoughts.
"I bring reason to your ears, and, in language as plain as ABC, hold up truth to your eyes." Thomas Paine, December 23, 1776
Just read the TCP
article and I would like to offer these thoughts about whether the appeal is just a formality and the outcome a foregone conclusion.
The makeup of the NCAA committee that will hear the appeal will be completely different than the group that ruled against Kanter. For all we know, there may have been differences of opinion on the eligibility committee and the battle was won by hardliners when it comes to professionalism. The appeals committee therefore could be a more favorable environment to argue about the education dollars given the Kanters rather than spent by the club. If the money was spent on education expenses and this can be proven, then we are really talking about a technicality that can be viewed from different perspectives. The NCAA has overruled decisions by the lower committees several times so the precedent is there.
Like Yogi says, “It ain’t over til’ its over”.
I woke up feeling BLUE this morning. It's gonna be a great day.
I hope you're right.
However, I think the NCAA will circle the wagons and protect their own.
Slogan for the NCAA: If it ain't broke, break it.
Waking up to this
What a miserable start to a fresh day.
I’m guessing that the NCAA views this more as Enes being construed a “Pro” rather then the amount of money that was paid to him. Maybe that is why they view the Sidney case differently then this one? So much for the meticulous record keeping of Dr. Kanter.
If Enes can continued to practice while the appeal process is going on maybe he can toughen up Eloy and make him an interior presence. Get in the weight room Eloy and stay there.
Now more then ever we need Miller and Liggins to step up big time. This team cannot afford any weak links within it.
Nick
Just be glad...
…this happened now instead of later, down the line, and we’d have to vacate wins or something.
I also didn’t expect Enes to play – there was just too many unknowns about his whole situation in Turkey. I don’t feel “sorry” for him, he’ll be in the NBA in less than a year. Nor do I hate him – he didn’t harm the Kentucky program in anyway. Just unfortunate that we couldn’t see him suit up in blue for the year!
Kanter's
Well, if Enes can’t play for UK, Cal knows where there is another Kanter who could play for us in a few years.
rondo had a good night last night

i am VERY happy for the Louisville kid
we knew he was going to be a force in the NBA just didn’t realize it would be this quick…helps to have some future all stars playing alongside him.

All is not lost..two things to remember..
1) Coach Cal will use this negative situation to motivate this team. When a team thinks they have something to prove they will be better than the team that thinks they have it “made in the shade”. Cal is a master at this and you can bet that the wheels are turning.
2) Production from the post will be by committee. I venture that between our two big guys there will be a double-double most every outing. Please review last years stats and see how much better Boogie and D.O. did together? If we get a double-double from Josh and Eloy and the rest of the boys do their thing, we will be fine.
..Playing the Cats gives you an uneasy feeling..like looking in your rear view mirror and seeing a police car..

Check out this report:
It does not appear from Mike DeCourcy’s report that Enes received benefits. Payments were made by the club to the Kanters, who used approximately $20,000, of the $33,000 paid, for educational expenses. The remainder is sitting in a bank account, from this report, and the Kanters offered to give it, plus the $20,000 spent, back to the Turkish club. So, it appears that 1.) Dr. Kanter did keep meticulous records and 2.) Enes was not being paid a salary for playing. DeCourcy reports that a critical factor was that the Turkish club did not directly pay the educational expenses, but gave the $$ to the Kanters for that purpose.
You have to take this with several grains of salt, but if true, it might have an impact on the appeal committee. Also, the rest of Mike’s analysis is spot on—its clear Enes and the Kanters did not intend him to become a professional, otherwise they’d have stayed in Turkey and not come over to the US at all.
One grain of salt to take it with:
The Sporting News. They tend to adopt some radical, controversial topic because they need page views. They try to compete, and can’t, against TWWL, Fox, and Yahoo sports.

Well, in all fairness...
What the NCAA said was impermissable was $33,000.
The total amount paid that covered permissable expenses could very easily add up to $100,000.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Won’t matter. UK is dealing with the NCAA. Down through history there have not been very many gracious tyrants.

Is it too late to get that retroactive medical redshirt for Jared Carter?

It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

Heh, You're probably right ;-)
OTOTH, maybe Cal can push the envelope and make more people upset by exploiting The New College Basketball Player Market Inefficiency: former college players who finished school but didn’t go pro and still have a year of eligibility left (or can get a year ala Carter).
Not sure how the transfer rules would work on that if they haven’t played in a few years.

Jared Carter? Say it isn’t so. That poor guy was out and out lazy. His was a wasted scholarship from the get-go. Felt sorry for
him because he just was not SEC caliber. Wish him the best anyway.

I mean, we really never got to see his best because of his knee injuries.

OK. So why did he choose to leave? From what I understood he did not have to leave. Jared could not compete in the SEC. What games he appeared in was just as a large body on the floor.

Not exactly right.
UK had to apply for a “medical redshirt” for him. It would have been granted, but UK chose not to apply. His eligibility was therefore exhausted.

Well I’m at a disadvantage as to that pic. I can’t hook it up to anything I’m familiar with . Is it a movie clip? If so there’s no reason I would know because I watch older and contemporary movies about certain subjects. The pic is funny for whatever it’s worth, just don’t know what it’s refering to. Help please.

Enes is dead to me now.
That’s what my wife said when I told her. Why habor unlikely hopes for another month or two, she says, only to have them dashed a second time? Assume it’s over, and if by chance we get good news later, then we can rejoice.
Works for me. Cut to the fifth stage of grief and move on. Tonight’s game should help.
We didn’t want him anyway, right? (sniff)

Good advice. Exactly what my wife said. We must be two awfully lucky guys to have discerning wives. Don’t you think?

Very well said
and agree with the slogan. Of course, the NCAA was once headed by Myles Brand- who fired Bob Knight at Indiana- not even gonna get into that- why should we even be surprised

Maybe I'm Negative
but I do NOT expect fairness from the NCAA! Something my son mentioned “Just Follow the Money”, with so much money involved with the euro clubs selling the rights of their players to the NBA deals could be made in the backrooms; the euros get their money and the NBA has a place to store players during their development without having to draft early out of college players with no need to pay them big money to set on the bench.
The NCAA doesn't care
about student athletes and whats best for them. I dont think they take the time to make an informed decision. They sit down and say, “What can we do to make people talk about us- either positive or negative?” and they knew darn well that ruling Enes Kanter ineligible would get people talking about them. Once again a sad state of affairs but thats how it goes. And it aint just Kentucky its Kansas and other schools too.
Now, to the basketball team. Without a real center, and as much I love watching Harrelson he aint a real talented center, this team could be in trouble. We will beat a lot of teams with the good athletes we got. But i dont think that 20-10 or somewhere around there is out of the question with our lack of size.

From what I have read
This is not news to UK. They were in on the investigation. They signed off on the results! I wonder if Cal knew? If so he was just letting us down easy. This being the case, what is there to appeal?
Happy Days are here again! Wildcat's have #1 recruiting class again!
From what I understand of the appeal
I think the basis is that he should be allowed to pay back the impermissable educational expenses and sit a number of games. Much like Reynardo Sidney.
Not that I think that’s how it should (or will) be decided, but I think that’s what the appeal centers around.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Maybe sue
The Kanter’s could take part of that 33K (lol) and use it to sue the NCAA for unfair treatment, discrimination or some other legal reason. The lawyers on here could figure that one out. I mean if Sidney can play why not Enes. Also now that the Turkish club has admitted guilt in this matter will they not be penalized by the Euro federation or whatever it is that governs them? Surely they can’t walk away from all this scott-free..?
Nick
UK may have known
they had no chance with the bunch that ruled Enes ineligible. They may think they have a better chance with the appeal.
I woke up feeling BLUE this morning. It's gonna be a great day.
We Are Still More Talented...
Than the Duke team that won it all last year… or the Butler team that made it to the finals. Seriously. This is a talented team. Shooting, execution and teamwork is what decides how far in the tournament a team can go. That and the random way that the match ups are drawn….I would love to watch this team draw the cakewalk that Duke had last year.
I predict this team wins the SEC and has a great year overall, maybe even Number 7. Or they don’t have a very good year and all stay one more year to play with the class of 2011. Win-Win!!! Anyway, KyWineman has some wine, Glenn drinks some Four Roses, I write some songs and have some fine micro-brew, and we are all fans of the greatest College basketball team of all time!!! Over 2000 won….and counting.
We will be OK. We only have to feel bad for Enes, who will soon be a millionaire one way or another. So even then….
Go Cats!!!!
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

Thanks to the Kanters
I would like to thank the Kanters for being upfront and honest, thus avoiding an ex post facto ineligibility and game vacation.
Now I’m ready for some basketball! Please, UK, do not hurt any ETSU players. I am looking forward to the Bucs sweeping the Mississippis in December since UT wussed out and dropped them from the schedule. ETSU averaged 35.5 point margin of victory in their two exhibition wins.
