The UK Football Kool-Aid Post

Before we start, I have to admit that the last couple of weeks have been very humbling.  I have posted before about my optimism concerning this season, and the Wildcats have certainly been exposed for their weaknesses.  Personally, I think that I will have to see some positive results before I get very optimistic again.

HAVING SAID THAT...

Looking at how the schedule is rounding out, and the games this weekend across the SEC, I think that some optimistc results COULD happen...

First of all, lets think about where the Cats are in regards to the rest of the SEC East.  At this point, everyone in the East division has at least one conferance loss, even Florida.  Tennesse, Georgia, and Vanderbilt have more - Vandy is struggling with depth/injury issues, as is Tenn, and Georgia is cratering (boy, who saw that coming?).  South Carolina plays 'Bama at home, Florida plays LSU, and Kentucky plays Auburn.  It is very possible that Florida could lose to LSU - neither offense is very good, but LSU's D is probably as good as 'Bama's right now.  'Bama rolls in Columbus (I can't see anyone, anywhere beating the Tide this year).

Now granted, based on the last couple of weeks, it doesn't look likely that UK will win this weekend, but it is still possible (and I am very heartened to hear that Randall is craking heads and taking names - go get'em!).  Joker seems to think that they match up well to Auburn, and last years' result would seem to corroborate that assessment.  That Auburn team is definitely not as good as this years version, but this Kentucky offense is better than last year, too.  So, lets imagine for a minute that UK plays semi-decent defense (they DID contain Masoli fairly well) and the offense continues to roll, and they get an emotional lift from palying at home.  A last second field goal lifts them to victory.  Where would we be?

Kentucky would have its first SEC victory against two losses.  With losses by Florida and SC, Kentucky would be tied in the loss column with those two teams, and ahead (I think) of GA, TN, and Vandy.

What happens if UK wins out on its October home stand?  First, UK would be ahead of SC (having beaten them next week) and no worse than tied for the lead in the SEC East with Florida (maybe better depending on what they do - don't they play Auburn? Arkansas?) with Miss St, Vandy, Tenn and OOC cupcake left to play.

So, yes, this is definitely Big Blue Kool-Aid of the first order, and a lot of things need to break our way for this to happen.  But it is defeinitely in the realm of possiblity and as dedicated fans, I think we can let ourselves dream big sometimes...

(even if emotionally I can't tell if I can stand to watch the game this week or not...)

So get out your lucky rabbits feet, cross you fingers and toes, and maybe the gods of football will shine a light over the Bluegrass yet

(can't hurt to ask...)
