I hate Vandy. Now, not in the true sense of the word "hate", of course, as this is just sports, but in the sense of good ol' fashioned competition, yep, I hate Vandy, to be sure.
I was bitching about them to my husband just last night, as a matter of fact.
My husband asked who we were playing on Saturday and I said, "Vandy" with a little sneer. Then he looked at me and said "Oh boy, that may be a tough one, how's DeMarcus doing these days? The Ogilvy-Cousins matchup may be a good one, Ogilvy has experience, you know?" Oh, great, just what I needed to hear, they have experience. OMG. Are you kidding me? (now might be a good time to tell ya'll that when talking about Vandy my husband oft mentions how he almost went to Vandy -- can you believe I married a man who considered Vandy!?!)
Just so you know, my husband does not watch each and every game with me, but he does know that I am quite enamored with DeMarcus and that I hate Vandy, the highlight-haired AJ Ogilvy, in particular, who, I suppose could be an incredibly lovely, respectful and fun person, but for some reason, I just do not see it. Do ya'll remember the close-line he gave Liggins last year? Yes, I will acknowledge that Ogilvy has some talent, but he's just so unassuming and soft looking to me, and someone who appears as he does that tries to play hard-ball with the likes of a kid from Chicago, well, that seems like the height of ridiculousness to me.
So, anyway, when my husband starts in on me with his "reasoning" (never mind that he may be right), as you can imagine his little statement about "experience" really pissed me off (he probably said it just to get a rise out of me, and it worked!), I was seething and I looked at him in utter disgust and said "well yeah, maybe, but we have waaaay more talent and I'm pretty sure DeMarcus is going to......", well, I can't really write exactly what I said as that would probably be considered bad sportsmanship in a public forum on my part, but nevertheless, you can be sure that I said something to the effect that I hope we win in rather convincing fashion and that DeMarcus has a field day with the rather large odd-looking Aussie. Not totally talking trash and guaranteeing anything here, but I just felt compelled to step up and defend our little DeMarcus and our team, you know? I'm sure you get it.
For this fan, when you take into account the complete and total embarrassment that we fell victim to two years ago at the hands of Vandy, add in AJ Ogilvy to boot, well, suffice it to say that I would really savor a victory on Saturday and it would be oh-so-sweet, indeed.
Feel free to share any love/hate Vandy stories of your own.
