Where have you gone Patrick Patterson?

Simon and Garfunkel can have my apologies for stealing the line right now, but I kept hearing it in my head last night.......

Where have you gone Patrick Patterson?, the Big Blue Nation turns it's lonely eyes to you, woo woo woo.

Patrick disappeared last night in a sea of lost rebounds, silly turnovers, and non-existent rebounding. Why? I don't really know. Coach Cal told us before the season started that although Patrick was going to learn how to play out on the wing, and shoot threes, and make himself a better all-around player, that when the game was on the line, and when the chips were down, he was going to be in the paint fighting for every loose ball, every rebound, and every shot.  In every game the Cats have struggled in this year, Patrick has disappeared. Now I am not sure why this is happening, and I don't even know if Patrick is to blame, but it is not helping the situation.

We shot poorly last night, this is true. But we have shot poorly before, and the rebounds always came to make the second chance points happen. Not last night. A smaller, more determined team snagged the loose balls, got the rebounds ,when Cousins was in there fighting for his life ( sorry Tru, but the officiating sucked), and Patrick was where????

The Cats will recover from this, and fairly quickly I suspect. But this game should stand for a lesson for this team that they all have to be hitting on all cylinders for 40 minutes a night to win every game. I was not as upset last night as I was stunned. Downey is a great college guard, and although I will not miss the kid when he is gone, and I applaud his efforts, but Devan Downey did not beat the Cats last night. The Cats beat themselves, simply by forgetting everything they learned this year. Time to re-focus and bear down Kittens, 19-1, and 20 to go......

What's that you say Mrs. Robinson? Patrick has left and gone away? hey hey hey, hey hey hey.

Well, let's make sure Patrick gets back in the game......right now.

The Rock

Patterson has been the consistent foundation for this young team to grow from. He hasn’t had too many games like this and I’m sure he will be motivated to play better against Vandy this weekend. Watch out Vandy!

I think he will, but I also think he and Cal are going to have to come to a meeting of the minds....

he does too much of this disappearing act when Cousins gets on a roll….Patrick has to know that Cousins cannot do it all by himself….and he should know it after trying to play this game last year. We have 5 scorers on the court at any given time…..we have 2 big men at ALL times…they must both play the paint like they own it…..

Sorry, but no. 30 points, a plethora of amazing shots, and great defense in key moments for the Gamecocks won this game. Yes, yes, Kentucky played poorly but if you really want to get into the “they didn’t beat us we beat ourselves” thing then I guess I could put this spin on things:

If Tennessee had made the 13 3-pointers they missed, they would have beat Georgia. Therefore, Georgia didn’t beat Tennessee, the rim did. :insert shaking fist: Rim!!!

Obviously Patrick Patterson needs to not disappear in key moments stretches halfs for the Wildcats, but please give credit where credit it due: South Carolina, while not as good a team overall as Kentucky, played a magnificent game, had a player who was just lights-out, and won.

Anybody who thinks Downey had a lights-out game

hasn’t seen him play much. He usually shoots much better than he did last night. He said before the game he felt he would be the best guard on the floor and he was.

I agree whole heartedly that

he disappeared but so did Miller. When your guards are dribbling straight into the other team and RUSHING every fricking shot….well got to say this all isn’t on PP and Miller. That said……PP needs to have a little man to man talk with Mr. Wall and Mr. Bledsoe with Big Cuz looking over his shoulder at them.

We go inside out with our front line and we should destroy most teams we play. We force action and rush shots and then stand around while the other team rebounds and we get beat by a team that’s lost 3 in a row prior to this game.

You can't fix "stupid"!

Patrick wasnt the only one to make mistakes....but in his case it wasnt so much about doing anything really wrong....

he just didnt do much of anything…..I believe Cal will correct this, but it did happen, and it cant happen again

I am amazed by the talk of PP disappearing.

He had 8 rebounds, 5 of them offensive and 2 blocks. Not bad when your center had 12 rebounds. No, he didn’t have many shots but the other players have to get him the ball.
I am ready to say Cal is making a mistake by keeping PP on the perimeter so much. Him and Cousins underneath together would be lethal.

Patterson is learning...

a new way to play. In the end, this style will make Pat a much much better player. He gave us two and a half years of great solid play. Can’t we stick by him for a few weeks and support him? Come on peeps, this is ridiculous!

GO BIG BLUE!!
