Another Top Class For UK?

A pretty interesting analysis from Rivals.com analyst, Jerry Meyer:

Could Kentucky put together a 2010 recruiting class that would surpass Memphis for the No. 1 ranking?

Could there be a shakeup at the top of the Rivals150 for the class of 2010?

How do two of the top point guards in the 2010 class - Brandon Knight and Kyrie Irving - compare?

What do you think, Big Blue Nation? Could 2010 be Another Top Class For UK?

Listened to Nashville sports radio

Yesterday afternoon, and they were talking to someone close to the UK program (can’t remember exactly who) but anyway they said B. Knight was a done deal. They stated he hadn’t declared yet, but he was going to play for UK…

Since 1966

The closest UK ever came to back-2-back #1 classes was either side (1978, 1980) of the #1 class in 1979.

That is a fact. If UK finds out the person on the tickets has passed away, the tickets are gone.

Who are we going to have to get rid of to give ll these guys scholarships?

Another fire sale at Kentucky, where a commitment by the student, or by the University means 2 different things. We could do like Pitino did, and start a JV squad.

3 early NBA entries – Patterson, Walls, Cousins.

6 scholarships open up – 1 goes to Stacey Poole. 5 more available.

Will we have “token hillbillies” in the Calipri era?

Unfortunately, no..

I have not attended a game in person since my grandmother died, and willed the tickets to someone else, about ten years ago. I mean that IS how you get tickets for Rupp? By someone willing them to you?Of course you could prove your fandom by paying hundreds of dollars for scalped tickets, but I’m not going to do that just to prove my fandom. Actually I have played in more games in Rupp than I have saw in person. My HS. made 3 sweet sixteen appearances in 4 years in the early/mid eighties(actually the most appearnces on any one school 1980-2000, unless you read the Herald-leader; who had someone else, with less appearances, as the one. When I confronted them on “rating the state” they had no comment). I believe that BoydCountyHS had the most regional championships and highest winning PCT. in those years , and I can’t find any officail numbers that disprove it. There is very little, however , on the web about BCHS in those years. The only thing I can find is an article about an honorarium for Coach Eugene “Jeep” Clark in Ashland a few years ago; and an article about his despised replacement , Roger Zornes, jumping ship and going to ouyr across-river rival; the Ironton “Tigers”; just like Rick Pitino.

BTW

I am what Yankee Liberals refer to as a genuine “hillbilly”, so I wear that as a badge of honor. In my corporate world, when I go to Chicago, there have been people who heard my accent and underestimated me..they are no longer with the company, or I am their boss. I use my heritage to my advantage, and as a teaching tool to show my children/grandchildren that anything is possible with education and drive. So, no to me , it is not an insult unless spewed as hate by outsiders.

Actually most of them refer to us as Ignorant Briers(Briars).......

Now, in using that term, one must remember that it originated in Ohio and Indiana and Michigan, etc. when our forefathers went north in search of better jobs to get out of the mines.

You just wrote a large part of my family’s history, since ww2, headed North to Cleveland, Lima, Indy, Chicago, wherever they could to escape Appalachian hopelessness, with a new surge of people headed to Fl. in the 80’s after Jimmy Carter destroyed the economy there. But, I am living proof that “you can take the boy out of the hills; but you can’t take the hills out of the boy”!

One half of my family left McCreary Co, the other half left Middlesboro

1st two groups went into the army and navy in WW2, next group went to work in Dayton, Ohio for automakers in late 50’s….I can proclaim one Aide de Camp for General George S. Patton, one Coroporal at Adak IL, Alaska “Weather Station”, and one Bowson’s Mate lookout on a minesweeper in the South China Sea…..all lived to tell the tales, but no one seemed overly thrilled with where they were. The rest owe their livlihoods to GM, Frigidaire, and Chrysler. Which is really a crying shame, because they had a musical group at one time with a contract for Starday records, and couldnt get along well enough to stay together. So I had to grow up broke anyway…..lol

Pop had 2 1969 fastbacks with consecutive serial numbers

that he bought himself and my mother 2 years after they were built……not very practical for someone with 3 kids, but they just had to have them….one red and one white…..three years later one had been wrecked and one was still perfect, but the lustre had worn off…..Pop fixed the one and sold them both…..for a Truck and a 4 door Impala……I hated that Impala…..lol….

I posted this joke a while back
You know how you can tell a person’s from Appalachia in heaven?
They go home for the weekend
I’ve had friends in Cincy that thought nothing of heading home every weekend (4 hours in one case).
Perhaps they’ve known heaven in this life?

Wow!

That is one of the best Wiki’s I have ever seen. You are either a truck, driver, a boilermaker, or a telecom installer if you want to stay home and have something in life.I’m suprised they did not mention the “new generation” of travelers;a whole generation of telecom installers were created by the smart-thinking of Mr. Ballard Pennington, who started a telecom school in the Ashland area in the mid/late 80’s. Literally thousands of people from home are headed up and down the road, especially the AA highway on their way to Indy,Chicago,or any number of Big-cities across America. Every Sunday Night you are passing these guys headed up north, on thursday night/friday morning, headed home. I have gotten “lucky” and found a permanent home in the Telecom business, but I am still commuting from Nicholasville to Indy and Chicago to run the installs for my company in Indiana. Every now and then I am able to give someone from back home an opportunity, and that is a special feeling when you were born with no opportunities.

My house overlooks Center Hill Lake in beautiful Middle TN. It is full of smallmouth, and Dale Hollow reservoir is a short drive away. A co-worker has a log cabin there, and the fishin’ is great. But, my wife has people in Michigan, who went north years ago to work for GM. Every April my brother-in-law and I go to Lake St. Claire, and catch up to a hundred smallies a day!

I moved

to Florida for a brief time when I was ten…..I was called hillbilly all the time AND people would ask me if I had indeoor plumbing!!!!! They were serious too! Its kinda like though, when my cousin moved to ALaska, I asked what did her igloo look like :). Its all what we see on TV. Like the Diane Sawyer stuff that was on awhile back, they don’t show the educated in Kentucky, they only show the uneducated hard times people. THerefore, all Kentucky is seen like that.

media deals in stereotypes. Why? because most seem to be dumber than us shoeless Kentuckians. I’d rather be shoeless than clueless. Screw ’em.

On a personal note: The VERY first encounter I had with a Cincinnatian when I came up here for (grad) school was from the, I can’t think of a better word than receptionist, who remarked on my accent (and implied inferiority). I’m smart, not the smartest, but my internal thoughts were “listen you dipshit.”
I’ll never forget that.
And I believe similar experiences fuel many Kentucky basketball fans… (sans the idiots).

I agree

I AM the one on who tried to clarify the location of Easterk Ky, on here..any way, since I can’t get a meaningful answer the way the original question was worded; will Calipari be able to have in state players who rarely get to contribute, taking up scholorships, just to please the fans? If anyone has read any of my earlier posts, they will know that I feel that it IS the UNiversity’s obligation to provide opportunities for in state playes/students; and that I would accept whatever the basketball results were to achieve that, because I am an idiot that believes we could win with execution(coaching), just like we can with NBA talent. I thought Tubby was doing a nice balancing act in that regard.
