Testing ........123 Testing.....
We have talked about our kittens being tested all season. Would it be against North Carolina/ Would it be on a neutral court against UCONN? Once they passed those test, it became the Cardinals. Could the newbies really understand the distinct hatred for the Cards and provide the fans with a win? They passed that test. On to the next test..........SEC play. Georgia gave us a scare and then on to our nemisis Florida at Florida. Our kittens also passed that test. Well friends, this next game will be our greatest test in my honest opinion. Why, you ask? Well, I think that for the next four days our kittens will be going to class getting high fives for being the last unbeaten and the natural number one team if we beat Arkansas and I am sure everyone assumes that we will. In the meantime Cal has to keep his guys grounded and get them ready for Saturday. Can they take the pressure? Can they take the expectations? Texas couldn't. Texas is better then they played yesterday or even Saturday. They were incohesive last night. KSU is a good team, but Texas SHOULD HAVE dominated them. I am glad though. This gives our kittens a test they truly need on Saturday. They need to be able to handle the pressure and the egos and get the win. Arkansas has played many teams hard and we will not be an exception. I am going to be nervous all week and I don't play the game. I know they have to be too!

That target on our backs
got a whole lot bigger last night. The Arkansas game might be tough. John P needs the win, but so do we. I think our Coach finds ways to insert “losing” lessons for the team without having actually lost. He wants to win, he has said so. A great coach will want to win, that’s the name of the game.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Being ranked
- is the collective opinion of many sources. Only one team gets to be #1 at the end of the season. It would be a nice recognition for the team’s effort so far but not particularly meaningful except to the fans of course.
So, another target could get added to our backs if we beat Arkansas. Seems that at this time of the year, getting #1 is often a jinx. The honor gets swapped out more frequently than Seth Davis makes stupid comments. Add this to the SI curse and we will be lucky to win another game. :-)
Is #1 And Undefeated ...
Any greater target than being #2 and undefeated? Considering it’s an in-conference game against a team coached by an ex-Cat, I don’t think so. Recognizing UK’s difficulties with a quick PG like Courtney Fortson and a deadeye from 3 like Rotnei Clark, it was always a challenge.

Heh.
Who’s to Arkansas will even have all their players available for the game? I mean, they have to make it all the way to Saturday. WIth their record, that’s plenty of time for any one (or more) of them to get in trouble for something and be riding the pine come tip-off. ;)
It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

Clarke
He scares the beejeezus out of me. He is one of the best spot-up shooters I’ve ever seen. And this year he’s added a nice dribble-drive to his repertoire. Fortson is also a tough player, but I’m not nearly as worried about him. He can be pressured into making mistakes with the ball, b ut if he gains penetration, he’s got a nice kick-out to Clarke that’s effective. I’d like to see Bledsoe cover him Saturday.
As far as Texas — The Horns losing to KSU isn’t an upset. It was a conference road game against a top 10 team. Under those circumstances there is no such thing as an upset.
I should also add,
that I agree with tenken than Texas is clearly struggling right now. They not only didn’t play very well last night agaisnt KSU, but they played even worse at home against Texas A&M on Saturday.
I’m sure Barnes will get his guys going in the right direction, if not, the Big 12 will be a real bear to navigate.
Totally
agree about the upset thing BUT Texas should have pounded them in the paint…..I totally agreed with Bobby Knight on this. Texas was not focused last night.
How can we be ranked #1....
with a 11-7 record (or is it 10-8)?

I played on a lot of crappy teams when I was
younger but I also played on a few darn good teams. Undefeated at that, and I never felt pressure on the real good teams but I did on the bad teams. I play golf and have been nervous but I can’t say I feel pressured. I think this pressure talk comes from people that haven’t been under the gun. The players probably felt pressure taking exams but I do not believe for one minute that they feel it because they are undefeated at this point. So what if they lose a game. They won’t like it but I really doubt they feel pressure over it. One time in a golf tournament I had a one shot lead on the last hole sitting 125 yards out and the pin was tucked left and it was dangerous. The opposing player was trying to rattle me and said something about pressure and I looked him dead in the eye and said pressure is being on Vine Street in Cincinnati with a switch blade up against your throat surrounded by 10 guys and I addressed the ball and hit it dead center of the green and game over. These guys have played a lot of games in their life and I just don’t buy the pressure talk wether your #1 or #2. I do feel the coach can feel pressure like JB Hall in 1978. He had a lot of critics and had a heck of a team, but I doubt the players did. Nervous yes, pressure no.
I believe
pressure is something for the media talking heads to debate with each other about. I don’t think the teams ever really feel pressure. This is what they play for. Nervous? Sure, but not out of a sense of pressure to win or a fear of loss.
As Cal himself has said, so long as their swagger doesn’t become an arrogance and they continue to strive for improvement, then there’s no reason for a loss to be necessary. If their heads start to get too big for their shoulders, that’s when a loss can set them straight again.
Hopefully, this longer break between games won’t disrupt their momentum. In fact, it should make for some really good practice time to sharpen themselves up that much more for Saturday. And being back home after back to back road games will be nice.
GO BIG BLUE!
