2009 Blogpoll Ballot -- Week 1
Well, here is my best effort at a blogpoll submission for week 1. This will be our first year voting in the football blogpoll, and I haven't really got a good handle on everything yet, so if this seems way out of whack, I can only assure you it should get better.
This is the so-called "Good faith first effort," so please feel free to comment on oversights or inclusions you think should have been made. If you make a compelling case, I will change it prior to the final submission on Wednesday.

A couple of notes:
- I left Oregon in the poll, but after that showing against Boise, I'm not sure why.
- If teams won in ways that looked right, I did nothing to punish them.
- I thought Ohio State looked pretty questionable against Navy, but they won, so I didn't hammer them too much.
- I am questioning USC at #3, but not too strongly.
- I am strongly questioning Ole Miss in the top ten. What do you guys think?
- BYU May be a little high, but they got props for their upset.
Add whatever wisdom you think you can impart below. I am not nearly as confident of my football rankings as basketball, especially this early in the season

Looks good to me....
its still so early that I can’t argue with the rankings. Every year some teams are more ready for their first game than others and so I do not read too much into the overall performances unless they were just dreadful. I am not sure if Iowa showed that they are a Top 25 team but I am not sure who I would put in their place (maybe Rurtgers but we will see today).
Not sure about Ole Miss but I do think Memphis is better than people think. They have double digit BCS school transfers and I expect them to be competitive in their conference.

Agree with Iowa and Ole Miss comments
Iowa should not have had trouble with N. Iowa and has lost their best running back for the season. Ole Miss – overhyped. Might put Bama ahead of USC, the Tide looked impressive and I have a natural tendency to dislike USC anyway. Cal vs USC will be a good game.
Boise State ??
Looks like they could run the table and put the BCS into another tailspin…
I actually hope they do…
Steelers fan 1st! UK is my 2nd love.
I would put BS into the Top 10.
Can’t believe they’re not ahead of Virginia Tech. Also, living in Columbus and having gone to several Ohio State practices, they are ridiculously overrated. They don’t have a set list of 5 guys you could call “starters” on the OL. Coach has a “rotation” going. Without an OL, I don’t care how good your QB is, he WILL falter. I expect a serious beating here at the hands of USC next Saturday night. I’ll bet that OSU has 3 losses this season (USC, PSU and a random upset). That is biased, however, since I’m a staunch OSU hater.

The Big Ten has looked bad in recent years b/c its best team
always “shits the bed” in bowls. How do you make an Ohio State cookie? Put it in a bowl and beat it for 3 hours.
The Bearcats wasted no time scoring against Rutgers....
this could be a good one

Hawkeyes? Surely You Jest
Oregon also an interloper. With the advantage of having watched UC for a half+ I would include Bearcats. UGA a bit elevated, offense suspect. Consider KU as deserving.

Lindley SEC DPOW
The first of several season honors for Trevard Lindley one would surmise.

Could maybe use some work.
Oklahoma State looked fairly convincing against Georgia; much more so than Ohio State against Navy. I’d consider switching those two. Iowa barely escaped against a FCS team, blocking two field goals at the end of regulation to survive. I’d rank Kentucky before I’d rank Iowa.
Other than that, I’d say this as fair and respectable a poll as any. Well done.
I think you have to use the preseason rankings as a "basis" going forward.
Iowa won, and they were ranked in the preseason, so you have to keep them in. I agree w/ you about OSU, though.
Does anyone else despise
that Kenny Chesney song they play before the games? It’s awful. College football isn’t hokey and trite.
I don't question USC at 3...
and expect them to move up even further after next weekend. Don’t know about Ole Miss. Snead might’ve had a bad day.
NO. Carolina
I know they are ranked in most of the major polls, but I still can’t understand how anyone justifies ranking North Carolina at all! They are awful and the only thing I can think of is that most analist’s see the terrible conference and schedule and think, “well someone has to win.” I guarantee they will loose two-four games they should not lose, but will still end up ranked. If N. Carolina played in a real conference like the SEC they’d be a Vanderbilt/Kentucky type of team and that’s all!

They get love because Butch Davis was awesome at Miami
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
anyone missing
the Fla State/Miami games is missing a good one. 4th quarter FSU down by 1. Why do I keep hearing voices saying “wide right” and “wide left”?
It was Nice being there
Everyone’s mouths dropped open when we couldn’t complete a pass 3 down in a row…. Although a Miami fan did get stomped on in the student section. Shouldn’t throw a punch at 16000 drunk students. He was carried away in cuffs, not standing very well under his own power
Lets not completely F it up this time....

I think...
…Georgia is in for a long season. They looked flat and now have to reshuffle their line. Plus the QB controversy is likely to start brewing.
I made a few mods.
I moved Fla St. to 25 and Miami to 24. I dropped Iowa.
There we go.
