The Big Blue Daily Mail -- The BBDM Returns!
I know that the Big Blue Daily Mail has been on hiatus for a while, and it was unavoidable due to a big project I have been working on all summer. But not that the project is winding down, the Big Blue Daily Mail is making a glorious return to A Sea of Blue. I will be in Las Vegas over the next few days, but I am confident that I can handle the Sin City and this blog all at the same time, no sweat.
So here's a look at today's news:

Don’t make Calipari mad
Interesting comments from John Calipari's high school coach, who says that angering Calipari is not a good idea. And once more, we hear the virtually never-mentioned fact that it was Calipari who reported Marcus Camby's rulebreaking to the NCAA. -
Wildcats not sure what Miami has planned
Wow. Lots of Miami's coaches have been out of the game for a while. Brooks & Co. are not sure what to expect. -
Memphis formally notifies NCAA it will appeal basketball penalty
I think Memphis has a good shot at winning it's appeal. I think it is pretty clear the NCAA abused its discretion. As to the ultimate result, though, I think it will only gain them seven games, if I read the infraction committee's report correctly.

Teague downplays Louisville hire, adds UNC to list
This is quite a battle shaping up for Teague. Looks to me like Pitino is trying to replay the Simeon Mars/Jamaal Magloire strategy. -
Louisville Cardinals could be after Marquis Teague through Teague's former high school assistant coach - ESPN
I'm not singling out Andy Katz here, but the whole Milt/DeJuan Wagner situation has been cited for years as evidence of Calipari being a coach who is willing to go right to the line of cheating. When Pitino does the same thing for the second time, the reaction is, "Well, everybody does it." I can't wait to see what happens if Louisville actually lands Teague. -
Commentary: Teague has juice at Louisville | IndyStar.com | The Indianapolis Star
Pitino needs Teague to say he's coming to Louisville in order to establish that the coach can survive what happened at Porcini restaurant in 2003 and can continue to succeed at the new downtown arena in 2010 and beyond.

Blount done as a Duck: Oregon imposes season-long ban - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF - Yahoo! Sports
Matt Hinton weighs in on the Blount affair. We can tell that Matt doesn't know his boxing, though -- that punch was by no means a "hook," it was more of a jab. But it landed -- right on the glass jaw of Blount's career as a football player, and killed it dead as a stone.
Sad. But soon, I think, players will get the message that this sort of violent outburst is a career-ender. -

I hate that Memphis will appeal
the NCAA ruling..this means that all the Cal haters will get yet another opportunity to vent …we can expect another scathing article from Geoff Calkins..Pat Forde gets to fire a few rounds over Cal’s bow..ESPN’s PTI and ART will blast Cal with 30 second sound bites…I’d rather Memphis take their lumps and move on..
Glad they are...
agree that i do not want to see another round of Cal bashing, but would really like to see memphis win the appeal and get the games reinstated.
if there was someway Cal could help, that would be all the better…

Boise State
doesn’t play ranked teams at home because ranked teams don’t want to play them there.

Exactly what I was going to say!!
Ranked teams dont want to go into that hostile environment and play on the blue field. Personally, I am a fan of Boise State. Despite being a mid major their record speaks for itself. They definitely would be a contender if they were in the ACC or Big East.
Boise that good?
We really won’t know until the calendar says 2010. They won’t play anyone else really good until they reach a BCS game.
Oregon just looked bad. I’m not sure I believe it was all Boise’s defense that did the number on them. That team was inept in every phase of the game.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Look For Broncos To Be 12-0 In BCS Bowl
"[O]f those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 1
Yeah.
Boise looked pretty good. But it will be interesting to see who they wind up playing come bowl time.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
But their margin for error ...
… is non-existent.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
Not really.
We have a margin for error. It is small, but not as small as Boise State’s to make a BCS bowl.
UK has no realistic shot at a BCS bowl, in my opinion.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
Im not as high on UK football as others on this site.
I think our margin for error is non existent to to even get in a bowl.
If Memphis wins their appeal
and I think they should but I doubt they will, it would certainly clear Cal’s reputation in some peoples eyes. Unfortunately, controversy(hate) sells and most of the nay sayers are still going to look at Cal as a cheater.
Blount will get drafted -- I'd put money on it.
Without even going into the litany of saints that the NFL has “forgiven”…. he’ll be drafted if he can produce. The Bengals will probably take him #1. lol
