Blech

The amount of political animosity out there is appalling. I didn’t vote for our president, but I certainly have no issue with the Kentucky coach sending a jersey to the sitting president regardless of his political affiliation.

If we win the title this year, are we supposed to decline a trip to the White House and not give Obama/Biden jersies out?

Ridiculous.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

I agree 100%

I also didn’t vote for Obama, and no matter how much I disagree with his politics you have to respect the office of the President, regardless of who resides there.

First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

With terms like “well-earned mistrust” being used, I’m glad we aren’t discussing politics here.

I can't be in here constantly ...

… but when I see political stuff like that come up, it will go in the bit bucket.

Most people get it, but some just can’t resit taking a shot. All comments that look like political commentary will get deleted without exception.

And President Obama Is A Good Player

He competes with some guys who played Div I basketball (25 years ago) and holds his own.

He had some shootarounds with UNC players on the campaign

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Exactly, Forty.

Regardless of party lines this particular president is a HUGE basketball fan (and as you mention, plays quite a bit) so it would actually seem perfectly natural (to me at least) that we would give him some UK basketball apparel.

Like Coach mentioned in the article this was about basketball, nothing more nothing less. The President loves basketball, we love basketball. For goodness sake, it really doesn’t have to be so complicated.

Well, it's been proven that he can't go to his right.

President In 1993 Went To His Left

Then deked to his right from 1994 on.

Just read the article, etc., WOW...

It was just a jersey. This summer’s political rhetoric concerns me. Can’t we just talk about religion. (I refer to basketball, in Kentucky). Don’t worry Tru. :-)

This is all part of the process...

of Coach Cal realizing what state he’s moved to. He was going to fully realize it sooner or later.

I was hoping for later.

I Agree With a Lot Of That

I don’t think it’s happens all that often any more but it still happens.

by FortyYearCatFan on Sep 4, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, good insight for Coach Cal

And you know what, I am hoping and believing that it is not a racist issue at all, but simply a matter of politics and opinions.

Kentucky was a Hillary state and now, nearly a year later, there are outspoken people who are still expressing themselves. And at least they stand for something in world where it is too easy to just go with the flow and, as they say, stand for nothing at all.

If this is the biggest Kentucky social-cultural faux-paux Cal makes, then he’s going to be just fine.

by StillCatwoman on Sep 4, 2009 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know it had to have shocked him...

that this even was a “Kentucky social-cultural faux-paux”. It probably never even crossed his mind— as he was just excited at a chance to promote the team! Hell, I believe Coach Cal would send jerseys to Mars if he thought there were some ‘little green men’ up there that he could promote the team to….

Now, with the excitement drained out of the gesture, he can go about hiring a local anthropologist to serve as a consultant and double-check that none of his future promotions inadvertently stir the natives’ pot….

Great Policy...

I love the fact that we can come here and talk all things UK, and nothing about politics. I here political garbage all day, this is an escape from that. That’s big time in my book.

Amen, brother.

There are so many great political blogs out there, no matter what your positions are. I’m not looking to make A Sea of Blue one of them, even a little bit.

Coach Cal said it best: “Politics and sports don’t mix.” They are like oil and water.

Thanks Tru

I really appreciate your stance on this issue. Politics is not needed here at ASOB.

As far as the jersey

I thought the #44 was a nice gesture to our President to go along with the Bounce Back book. He is the 44th leader of our great Nation and does indeed love basketball. I think Obama will be greatly appreciative of this gift.
