Memphis trying to get into the SEC
Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson says the school’s first priority would be to join the Southeastern Conference — not the Big East.
"Quite honestly, the truth of the matter is the lifelong dream of Memphis is to get in the SEC," Johnson said Thursday in a phone interview. "We’re surrounded by SEC country. When Arkansas got in Memphis thought they were going to get in."

I don't know about that
In Basketball, we’re talking instant rivalry between UT and Memphis. A yearly game between UK and Memphis might be fun, too. Memphis may not be at the big table, yet, but they have had two great runs under Finch and Calipari since the 1980’s. Pastner’s got a good recruiting class this year, too.
It’s still a long shot — who would be the 14th team that joins the East? It won’t be Louisville, that’s for sure (Cowards, lol)
And a 14 team Conference is probably too big.

I wouldnt have wanted them in the SEC when Cal was there.
We honestly dont know if they will be any good under Pastner. Did you know Memphis is the only school that has had 2 final four appearances vacated???

Memphis in SEC a long shot for sure
It’s all conjecture. I’m just saying they’d bring potential rivalries to the table. Games between UK, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and points South might prove interesting especially if the new coach (unproven to be sure) can produce quality teams. Rivalries require at least one of two things, proximity of the schools (so you can hate the guy in the next cubicle! lol) and/or quality of team. Memphis “could” provide both. Again it’s conjecture.
