Blogpoll Ballot: Week 2
Week 2 was an interesting one in the college football world. Of course, at this point, there will be a lot of movement everywhere, except for the top 5, which virtually remain the same from last week.
What we saw this week was some big swings in the middle of the poll, but not many on the top and bottom. More after the jump.
Here is my ballot:

| Last week's ballot | ||
- Michigan at #25 was a tough call. There were several worthy of consideration for that spot.
- Georgia lost a lot in my eyes. South Carolina gained at their expense, but a loss is still a loss.
- I think Cincinnati is actually better than where I have them ranked.
- Houston deserves their spot for now, but they play Texas Tech two weeks hence, and that will really tell the tale.
- BYU proved themselves worthy, but the real test comes vs. Florida State next week.
- I'm not real comfortable with California this high, but Eastern Washington is a good FCS team, and the Bears tore them asunder.

Agree for the most part
Still way too many unknowns. Cal is every bit a #8. Looking forward to their game with Southern Cal.
Harsh
Dropping Georgia 9 spots after a win – that’s some Michael Vick-style treatment of the Bulldogs.
Other comments (since, of course, I know everything after these teams have played 1 or 2 games):
1. Cincy is better than 22. Mid-teens seems about right.
2. Given how FSU struggled mightily with Jacksonville State, I wonder if that really will be a “true test” for BYU? And what does it say about Miami?
3. Cal > USC (Oregon State > USC ??)
4. No way is LSU currently the 6th best team in the country. Wins are wins, but they should not have struggled so much against UW and VU.
Carry on. . .

My rebuttal ...
1. Yeah, I was pretty harsh, I was really surprised at their inability to defend USC East. I would look very favorably on a strong rebound from them against Tennessee. UT may not be Texas or Florida, but if the Bulldogs can show me some defense against the talented skill players of Tennessee and continue the offensive prowess they showed against USC East, I’d think much better of them. A good showing, and they could gain much of that lost ground back.
2. Jax State. They are a very highly rated FCS team, and many good FBS teams might struggle with them.
3. Well, Cal needs to prove it. They had a good win against a highly regarded FCS team, but EMU at home is no OSU on the road.
4. I kind of agree with you, but I have as many or more doubts about those just below. I admit, this is kind of a poke and hope. LSU has not been impressive so far.

I don't disagree with the actual placement of Cal vis-a-vis USC
Based on their actual resumes to date, you are undoubtedly correct. I just think Cal is the best team in that conference, and Oregon State may prove to be the second best. We shall see – at least with the Pac-10, everyone gets to play everyone.
BTW – where did Pulley transfer to? Was it Jax State, or am I remembering that wrong?

Ah, yes. Knew it was down there somewhere. Thx.

cal is the best team...
in which conference, now?
The Dores
Weren’t the better team at the LSU game, but considering their suckage it shouldn’t have been as close as it was, the final score doesn’t really tell the tale, Vandy gave up. Eff some LSU.
Ohio State should have beaten USC.
South Carolina looked like a good team vs. Georgia, but then Georgia didn’t play that great week 1 either.
Loss and Punishment
Why are polls seen as rewards for wins and punishments for losses? If the point is to give an opinion on who the best 25 teams are, then dropping a team that doesn’t look good isn’t harsh, it is updated based upon new information. Given what we have seen from Georgia, I’m not sure they are one of the best 25 teams, though, I have a feeling the data will change in the upcoming weeks. 23 Seems to be a good spot for them
Polls were created to make the sportswriters feel like they had a hand in the process.
The AP Poll (Associated Press) was started years ago when a sportswriter got asked who he thought was the best team in the country. It used to be how they settled the mythical “National Championship”……Coaches poll was created because they felt like they knew better than the sportswriters…..lol…..a lot of testosterone in those polls…..lol
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
