Historical Perspective?
Maybe some of y'all can help me out here.
I'm wondering if there's a comparable incident of 'moral turpitude' (gotta put it in quotes because it sounds so silly) on the part of a coach, who then received full support from his employers. There are plenty of incidents where the coach has gotten the proverbial boot, but what about otherwise? It seems like politicians can get away with this kind of thing (occasionally), but not college coaches.
Surely, what's happened here is worse than participating in an NCAA tournament pool or drinking beer with some coeds. Right?

Honestly
I think a football coach betting in a NCAA basketball pool and getting fired is a bunch of hooey. A college coach drinking with coeds is worse to me than having an affair from an employers/educator point of view. I have come to find out most people will disagree with me on that one. I do not condone adultery, but I believe there is a big difference with your private life(adultery) and drinking overtly with students.

Mahatma
A very good point Mahatma.
Check out the comments by the two writers from Birmingham on Clay’s sidelines today.
If the supporters of the University of Louisville decide maybe this isn’t the direction, and or reputation the school needs to be supporting, money slows down from big supporters, there might be some changes in attitudes of the president and athletic director.

Our behavior involving other people has real consequences. These I believe are just now
beginning becoming evident. I feel so sad for all concerned.

U of L boosters
I happen to know one prominent Louisvile booster. He’s also a former football player (early ’70’s) and is a very devout Christian (not Catholic). I haven’t spoken to him about the Pitino mess, but I can’t imagine him being at all happy. Now, will that cause him to stop donating or supporting U of L basketball, I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he ceased to do the former.
To Mahatma’s question - I’ve been a college sports fan since the mid to late’70’s and I can’t remember any coach becoming entangled in such a public mess. DUI’s, public drunkeness, allegations of cheating (in recruiting), and domestic violence seem to be the prevalent indescretions committed by coaches.
And Mahatma, I agree wholeheartedly on the Rick Neuheisel (sp.), NCAA BB pool situation. Simply ridiculous to fire a coach over something as innocent as that.

He Will Not Be Fired
But he will resign and before the season is over. As far as the moral issue,of course what he done is morally wrong. But just having an affair would not cost anybody their job these days in most cases. If it did, half of our political leaders would be unemployed. The difference in the RP mess is all the behind the scenes stuff that is now being reported. And more will come out of this which will lead to his resignation.
