10 reasons why Cal won't go to UK
I came across this article that I believe to be written the day the "toughest" coach UK ever had was fired. It is pretty interesting as they name 10 reasons why Cal wouldn't jump ship at Memphis to swim for that magical basketball paradise which is UK.
I find these very humorous now because many of the reasons they have listed as deterrents were actually catalysts to Cal's success.
Here they are:
Number 10: It's Not About the Money
Exactly, they got this one right. The problem is it WASN'T about the money because Memphis offered more. As it turns out, Cal wanted the opportunity to coach, as he put it, "at the Notre Dame of basketball"
Number 9: Championships Trump All
Yes they do. And Cal has insinuated, along with the press, that when he moved theaters the chances of building a college basketball juggernaut, not seen since the likes of UCLA, are far better at UK than at Memphis.
Number 8: Seeding is Everything
Can you say Number 1 or 2 seed right out of the box? What else could you ask for?
Number 7: Kentucky Fried Fans
Cal has embraced the fans and they him. We love our coach and the love affair will continue. We've seen a spark of fun and excitement that we haven't had in 10 years. Honestly, for me, I haven't been this excited since I watched the Unforgettables.
Number 6: Tie - Cal's Steakhouse/Dunkin' Donuts
Gimme a break.
Number 5: Xavier Henry
They assumed he was going to Memphis.
Well, we all see how that worked out and it may have been a blessing in disguise. Could you imagine trying to coach Za-V-A and trying to sooth his mom's conscience because he didn't go to Kansas? There is more drama with that family than the Soprano's. X is good for sure, but what if we get 3 more years out of Miller, how good can he be as a Jr and Sr? I think Cal is happy with the trade off, don't you?
Number 4: Demarcus Cousins
They assumed He was going to Memphis.
Boy were they wrong.
Number 3: John Wall
He was un-committed at the time.
Guess what color he will be wearing this winter?
Number 2: Can't Play "No Respect Card" at Kentucky
Coach doesn't have to play that card now. He has the best facilities, the best fans, the best opportunity of any coach in America.
Number One: In Memphis, Cal is King
If he was King in the CITY of Memphis, Cal is Emperor in the entire STATE of Ky. No more fighting with Bruce Pearl for allegiance of fans. He has the allegiance of the entire BBN.

Interesting article.....
It appears to have been written by “Les”….Remember him? The on-the-scene reporter from They Day OF The Door Saga".
Good job on disassembling their top 10 reasons Coach Cal would stay, ukpastor. Their list never had a chance to compare UK, we all know that…LOL
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
Now all we need to know is if they have removed that door and made it a part of
their Memphis Hall of Fame of sports???
I miss Les…..wonder if he would go to Louisville and do another watch story?
Remember, we're having fun now!!!

First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
The same old door....
I imagine. Where in the world is Les? LOL
Days like this we need a live door feed to pull us through. Haha
:-)
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
you would have thought it earned a new coat of paint or something
maybe give it a nice blue…..
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I remember coming to ASoB .....
…. because I knew there would be links to the live feed of this door that day. I had never posted anything on this blog yet, but was very amused and entertained by so many people sitting and watching this feed— myself included! As a matter of fact, I was actually on the PHONE with my brother and we were TALKING on the phone about watching the live feed of…. a door. (That has to be even worse, I think.) When a second live feed came up in front of Coach Cal’s house, it was HERE that I got that link, as well. So, like so many others, I watched both feeds simultaneously, and for a long while of course NOTHING much happened at EITHER one of them…. except for Les. Les was great—- he should have made the move with Coach Cal.

I didn't mean to bring the door back!
It’s like bringing alcohol to an AA meeting. I hope no one falls off the wagon. Sorry. :)

Don't be sorry ukpastor....
It was the door that enticed me enough to join ASoB. Great memories for me. Thanks ! :-)
