So, who are we, anyway?
Ok, in full disclosure, this idea certainly isn't original to me and many of you who have been ASOB members for a while may remember the above headline, as it's something similar to what wilson actually did way back in January 2008. I realize many of you commented back then, but since the amount of members here at ASOB has grown considerably since January 2008, and while we are all waiting rather impatiently to see what Jodie Meeks is going to decide about his collegiate future, I thought it might be a fun summer idea as well as a much needed distraction from all the latest drama surrounding the UK hoops program to open a thread for ASOB members to talk about themselves a bit.
Our love of all things Kentucky Wildcats, as well as our uncontrollable addiction to ASOB are things we all have in common, but from the bits and pieces I have gotten from members' random posts and from members' profiles, I find it incredibly fascinating that we have such a diverse group geographically, generationally, as well as professionally here at ASOB and I would love to know more about the people whom I spend an insane amount of time each day just waiting to hear from, specifically about their passion, ideas, and opinions concerning our Wildcats.
If you are so inclined, feel free to tell a bit about yourself currently, (and if you dare, I suppose you could even post pictures), how you happened to stumble across ASOB, and maybe even perhaps what persuaded you to join, or any other personal details about yourself you would like to share. After all, who doesn't like to talk about themselves, right? How can you not be fabulous -- you're a UK fan!?!? Oh, and if you do happen to be a bit blog shy (I was at first, my goodness, it took me like 6 months to finally join ASOB), don't feel bad, have a blast reading and you can tell us about yourself later.
Ok, I'll go first.
Geographically? I currently live in the real wild wild west - I live in Montana. You don't run into many UK fans out here, but just so you know, any chance I get, I am actively recruiting anyone I see so I am definitely doing my part to increase our numbers in this part of the world. Btw, being so geographically-challenged for true blue UK fans makes me even more appreciative of this site and all of you.
Generationally? I am 34 years old. Oh, and if you don't know by now, I am a girl.
Professionally? Well, I don't currently have a profession (which is why I am able to spend a ridiculous amount of time on this site everyday) as I temporarily gave up my career in order to be a mommy and these days I take care of my 3 ½ and 1 ½ year old daughters and my wonderful engineer husband. Even though my current profession doesn't pay worth a darn (ok, it doesn't pay at all), the non-material rewards I get are priceless and they keep me coming back every day for more. I am a very lucky girl.
How did I find ASOB? I honestly don't remember exactly how I stumbled across this site, but I do remember some of the posters who I was immediately drawn to. Obviously, Tru was one of those and I don't want to appear as though I'm playing favorites so I won't mention anyone else by name, but there were definitely a few UK fans here that I was really drawn to and who made me think "hey, I could totally be friends with this person in real life, I think they are really cool". And as time marches on and the more time I spend here hanging out with all of you discussing, crying over, screaming about, and certainly celebrating our Wildcats, I find myself adopting even more online friends.
So, there you have it, that's me. Your turn.

Being the night cat that I am.. I’ll take the opportunity to pounce first at this.
I’m from Temple, Ga which is about 45 minutes or so west of Atlanta on I-20. For the past two years now I’ve been in Lima, OH going to school. Even though I’m now technically much closer to Lexington.. being out of the SEC belt provides some problems when trying to keep a close eye on the cats and the other SEC teams. Hopefully I’ll be back down south soon. Until then I’ll be just fine right here. =]
On the age game I come in at a month short of 20. Just old enough to remember winning the NCAA in 96 and 98.
Right now I’m just going to school so no work. I’m on track to receive my associate’s degree in High Performance Motorsports at the University of Northwestern Ohio in February of next year (just in time to get home for March Maddness!). Anyone thats wondering what exactly my degree is.. its easiest just to say I’m going to school to work on racecars. =]
I followed ASOB for a long time before I ever signed up. I think it was the open threads on the games that finally got me hooked in. Being disconnected from my fellow UK fans (but not near as much as BigSkyCat) back home, I wanted someone to talk to about the games and share the excitement with so I joined and haven’t went anywhere else since. I check the site multiple times a day and love the circle of common posters that are a part of ASOB. Thank you all!

Well here is another night owl!
I fall in the oposite end of the age group as my young friend who just posted. I was 70 this March and have been a Cat fan for 60 of those years. Dad and I listened to the radio at the kitchen table or got in the car to find a spot where we go the games. We started with Claude Sullivan then Cawood,Ralph and now Tom Leach. We have been blessed with excelent people calling the games. I can’t truly say I remember a lot about the early scandal. I was too young to realy know. I loved Mr. Rupp, the movie “Glory Road” did not do him right. The very name “Glory Road” was his term for his ride through UK career.
I live in Western Kentucky, have most of my life. I’m married to a wonderful woman who loves sports as much as me. I worked 36 years at a chemical plant and the guys would ask me to call home to find out the scores. My wife either all ready knew or was watching the games. Well as you can tell I could go on and on. Thanks BSC for the opportunity. Go Big Blue!
Happy Days are here again The sky is all ways BLUE again Happy days are here again !

First thing in the morning..
Never was much of a sleeper..
Anyways.. I grew up Georgetown, KY, and thus got a real dose, and subsequent love, of UK at that time. When the parents moved, I obviously went along (it was middle school) and moved further south to Savannah, GA. I am a UGA alum (and bleed red and black so long as they are not taking on UK on the hardwood) and live in Atlanta, GA.
The fact that I am an alum of UGA, yet have, and will always attend UGA v. UK in Athens wearing blue caused quite a commotion amongst my friends. It was really interesting the years I was a student. Any other sport and UGA comes first, but I just cannot root against UK in basketball.

My turn
Im a 26 year old banker working at a local credit union in Lexington. I grew up here in lex and graduated from UK in 05 with a bachelors degree in Education. I decided that education was not the field for me after watching my wife teach for a year. I’m also a certified EMT and am trying to get a job as a firefighter/paramedic here in lexington. (not a good time to try and get a job with the city) My wife also decided education wasnt the field for her and she is at UK working on her second masters in speech pathology. We are both diehard cat fans and had our first little cat fan 3 months ago. He bleeds blue.

Think I'll take a shot at this
I am a 55 yr young divorced man, father of one son, I have a wonderfull daughter in law, and 2 beautiful grandsons, ages 3 1/2 and the youngest just turned 2, they keep me on my toes. I live in Campbellsville, Ky. I insatall ceramic tile and hardwood floors, and do some remodeling work for a living .I’ve been a cat fan since the mid 60’s . One of my highlights being a fan was the 1978 season, a carload of us went to the airport when the team came home, it was a fun time. I’ve only been a member of ASOB for a short time, a few weeks before Billy got fired, I would read all the comments at LHL, and someone mentioned this site, I came here and knew this was the place to be. I spend 1 1/2 hr every night here, I’ve visited some of the other sites, but none of them even come close to this one, the articles, the links, the people, it doesn’t get any better, and I truly appreciate the time and work that Tru and Ken and all the others put in, it really makes it what it is………….GO BIG BLUE ! ! !

I'll bite
I’m 31 years old, I enjoy long walks on the beach in the moonlight and fireside chats…
Oh wait… wrong internet site. ;-)
I am 31 though… I’m from the Elziabethtown, KY area and graduated with a degree in Chemistry and Organizational Communications from Murray State University in 2000. I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA in 2004 and went to work for another doctor for two years. I established my own office in 2006… my three year anniversary is June 28 and the bank hasn’t shut me down yet; so far so good!
I was married and divorced without children, but have been dating a fantastic girl for the last year. She has a five year old daughter and I have spent the last several months taking enough pictures to make up for the missed 5. I took her to soccer camp earlier this week and totally felt like a “soccer dad” for the first time ever! My greatest challenge is to responsibly shape her into a tried and true UK blue fan… by and large I’m doing well, but her daddy is a Louisville fan and I have to be careful not to step on too many toes!
I discovered ASoB during the days immediately following the Tubby departure and have found it to be one of the things I absolutely treasure most during my days. I don’t have internet access at home (not there enough to justify it) and I have more than once found myself driving over to the office late at night to check to see what people online are saying after a game.
And I’ll even raise the stakes of this thread a bit:
Michael and Kelly after the ’09 Auburn game
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

From behind enemy lines as many others are
I currently live in Murfreesboro, TN and can see the Vanderbilt campus from my place of employment. My primary job involves repairing musical instruments and I have taught part-time at several universities in the area over the past 8 years.
I am 38 and was born in Harlan county. My first memories of UK basketball are of the 1978 championship. From the next fall on I have listened to/watched every UK basketball or football game I could. Most at first were listening to Caywood on the radio in our kitchen. When we moved to Georgia in 1982 it became more difficult to find games (I remember when the Saturday CBS came between UK and LSU was pre-empted by professional wrestling—not a joke). After bugging them constantly my parents agreed to get tickets to the UK Auburn game that year and I got to see my first live game (UK won on a last second shot by Derrick Hord).
I attended UK from 1988-92 and finished with a degree in music. I attended every game I could playing with the marching and pep bands. I was lucky enough to be on the front row of the Spectrum for the best basketball game of all time although we all wish the ending had been different. After grad school at Cincinnati I moved to Oregon where my parents taped all the games and sent them to me to watch from ‘95-97. In ’97 I moved to Tennessee and despite a lot of pressure from co-workers and friends always proudly wear my blue. I am amazed by internet technology and really wish something like this were around during my time in Oregon. I love this site and am a little shy so I rarely post . I spend half-time and post game here getting caught up on the posts and check the site several times a day even in off-season. I can’t bring myself to joing the game-time threads because as I always tell my wife I have to give the team my “energy” during the games. Speaking of the love of my life, she actually grew up in Lawrence, KS and is a KU fan. My favorite story to tell about her to UK fans is that when she was learning to drive she almost hit ’Ol Roy when he was crossing the street to Allen Field House.

UK Fan??
Can’t tell you when I started following the Cats! When you are 61, the memory starts to fade. I know for a fact by 1960 my wardrobe started turning blue. I am a mother of 2 girls and 1 stepson, I have 7 grandchildren (4 boys & 3 girls) ages range frome 2yrs to 12yrs. I went the UK Comm. College route focusing on elementary ed. Not for me!!!! Didn’t know what to do so————-became a banker and retired after 41 yrs. Married an avid UK Fan 36 yrs ago and scheduled our lives around the CATS. Both girls are Cat BB Fans, while son is Cat FB fan. Since retirement we bought a 5th wheeler and travel. Was hard first yr, missed a lot of games. Fixed that with Direct TV and now I enjoy games on the road. Never have much opportunity to see games in person, use to attend UKIT every year and the Big Four Classic. When it comes to my & your Wildcats———I BLEED BLUE—-WIN—LOSE—OR DRAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from the enemy camp (at least for now)... :)
my family moved to lexington in 1971 when i was in 2nd grade – i went to memorial for a game and remember the NC banner’s hanging on the wall (that makes me 46 in July)
the 1975 championship loss to UCLA hurt, but i did not fully comprehend it – the 1978 win and the celebration pep rally at memorial cemented my fandom….
i went to college in memphis (Rhodes College) and after 2 yrs MBA program at Vandy, returned with my wife (who is from jackson, tn) to memphis. have lived here since
the post sutton/early pitino years were tough and i drifted for awhile from college bball – however, the regional loss to puke rejuvanated my fandom (i guess there was one silver lining) – i knew we were back
i was an oil service analyst at brokerage firm in memphis for 16 years (i wrote research on the companies that help big oil drill and find oil) and then set out on my own a few years ago – timing was not good…
i found ASOB through John Clay’s blog earlier this year – until then i had endured the idiots on the HL board (i have not been back)
i will admit that although i was skeptical about Cal at UK, watching his teams up close the last couple of years reminded me of the pitino years of the late 1990’s.
i have 3 kids and they are all UK fans (2 girls and a boy) - i must have done something right!
only one rule in my house - uk has to be your favorite college bball team

I'll give this a try...
I read all the UK sites but this one seems to have the best perspective of my beloved Cats, so I joined this week.
I am 41 and was born and raised in Clay County, KY…a couple years ahead of Ritchie Farmer in school. My father and grandmother were two of the biggest Cat fans in the world so I became a part of the BBN as soon as I became aware of my reality…I was REALLY young.
My love for all things UK lead me to become a 1993 graduate of the UK College of Pharmacy. I lived in Lexington for 12 years but like they say you can take a boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy. So in 1997 I bought a farm in Adair County, KY in a small community I have grown to love called Knifley.
January 27, 1998 was one of the best days of my life. My daughter was born (against all odds of my wife and I ever having children), my home in Lexington finally sold and Nazr Mohammed hit a last fraction of a second shot to beat Vanderbilt. I still get chills of excitement and joy when I think back.
I thought of the best description for my bio on this site which is "I am a farming pharmacist in central KY and a UK alum." I hope to continue this endeavor for a very long time and will always Bleed Blue.

My turn...lol
I have been a Wildcat fan since the dawn of my time..lol. That is what I do know. It feels like I was born with it, because I feel it so deep inside. Go figure?!? It never waivers and I doubt it could. (Really never want to try..) That is why ASoB means so much to me. I would drop in, for a while, and read all the nice links and comments and insights of everyone here. Then alas, The Day of the Door Saga, got me. I dropped in and immediately had to join in that day. This was not some site constantly watching a live feed of a door, just for the heck of it. These people knew there was excitement around that door, somewhere. Not just Rah, Rah excitement, but, “Our team is going to return to greatness excitement.” I love you guys and gals. Awww… :-)
So enter life, haha, not so pleasant at times and so wonderful the others. But, it is what is it. That we cannot change. I am still here, in central southeast KY, where I was born and raised. I was married for 32 wonderful years. But life, almost 2 yrs ago, dealt me the ( never saw it coming, death card ), and I had to go on. Now that may make me sound old, to some of you I guess i would be, but I don’t think that way. ( turning 50 this year and love it ) I have a daughter and a son, and three feisty grandsons, that I adore, and then my Wildcats. Yes, I consider them my family. I just love my teams. Always have and always will. :-)
I absolutely love this site. I tell everyone I know and everyone I meet, ( who I can strike up a Wildcat conversation with ), this is the best site in the whole world……..They would tell you that, if you were to ask….lol…. I really want to thank JL Blue, Tru, Ken, BigSky, and every one who is here, ever, for such a great time. Thanks, for letting me feel this way. You all “get” it. GO BIG BLUE ! ! !

Lately, I'm Elmer Fudd
I’m not in San Diego anymore. I’m in the high desert of Joshua Tree, CA planting flowers. My fiancee’s mother took a bad fall a few months ago, and we have been taking care of her during her rehabilitation.
Since most of my work is contract work (of late I’ve been helping with the Chase-WAMU buyout on the IT end) I find myself with time on my hands. So, I decided this spring to plant some morning glories around the house. Problem is, I’m in the desert! And wouldn’t you know, despite the lack of lush green vegetation, rabbits are prolific here. So, the rabbit wars are ongoing.
That’s about it for now, I suppose. If I actually manage to catch any of the varmints, I’ll post pictures.
We're all just a banana peel away from eternity.

Fitting 1st Post, I thought
Where to begin:
Been following asob since this past season, mostly to get info on what was going on with the bcg situation. Just got so sick of all the garbage being spewed by the lhl crew.
I turn 30 this Oct. and live in Eastern NC—It’s tough being in ACC country. I’m the auditor of a community bank and got my undergrad from ECU (half way through my masters now). Needless to say, the UK/ECU bowl game was tough for me.
My father was born and raised in Eastern KY (near Paintsville/Prestensburg) and went to Pikeville, where he met me mom. You didn’t live in my family and not pull for the Cats. It’s how I was raised and how I hope to raise my future children (that’s my wife in my bio pic and we’re working on a fam). My dad has always pulled for all Cats sports but I just never really grew up watching college football all that much so I’ve become more of a Pirate football fan because I’m an alum. UK basketball has always been and will always be the most important sports program for me though, it’s unavoidable, I can’t even really explain why, but suspect most of you know what I’m getting at. While I was watching well before this, one of my most vivid cats memories is the Puke game and Lattnear (sp?) stomping on Timberlake’s chest while on the floor. No one in my family spoke for quite a while after that shot adn I think it’s the first and maybe only time I ever saw my dad cry!
I’ve enjoyed the great content this site has to offer and it’s been great reading everyone’s contributions. Still not being much of a college football fan, I just can’t wait for basketball season. Oh yeah, I think Tru started the “Embrace the hate” saying. It’s great, I love it and have borrowed it on several occassions-though I typically choose to keep my opinion to myself.
Pirate baseball team is playing UNC in super regional starting today— I know you all can join me in a big Go Pirates for this occassion! What an upset that would be to get to Omaha!
But most importantly, Go Cats!

I am 51 yearsold, and have been a UK fan since 1975. I was born in northern KY., but have lived in middle TN., for about 30 years. I have ten acres on top of a mountain, out in the woods, looking down on beautiful Center Hill Lake. I have been married for 28 years, and have 2 daughters, and a son. My oldest girl is in grad school at UT Chattanooga, my baby girl, is working in New York City this summer, but goes to MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN. My son is 13 and plays middle school and AAU basketball. I read this site for a long time, before ever posting any comments. I really enjoy reading everyone’s perspective on UK basketball. This is the only site that I read every day. Like everyone else, I can’t wait for next season! GO CATS!!

Me next
I found ASOB through a John Clay link a couple of years ago. I am I suppose an addict since I check here first when getting computer updates for any news. I am one that totally enjoys and now depends on the computer for my news. I love newspaper links and had always checked the LH since I live in Tennessee.
I was born in Jenkins Kentucky. My father was a coal miner for Consol Coal company so I grew up in a lovely, simple company town with all the strings attached that I did not discover until I was older. I walked to school with my sister for twelve years, wnet to school with the same 64 I started first grade with. One person moved in during high school. Sort of like Mayberry (not so much now with mines closed and mountain top removal all around). I started listening to the Kentucky games on a beige Philco radio, around age six, often under the quilts since I was supposed to be in bed. I still have the radio and it still works. Of course I I now enjoy the technology that lets me follow games in many ways including the fun I have following live action chat on ASOB. I do not know what hooked me but it was very early since I have been a fan for sixty years.
I have found this Kentucky passion an important part of my life. I have lived in Ohio, North Carolina and now Tennessee. I have three degrees from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I have worked since then as a psychologist. We wear orange half the year for football and blue of course for the other half. I have never felt a fan of the basketball Vols even when on campus. I used to wear my blue always at basketball games as a student. I have taught my husband and my two sons the same passions. At least I try to take credit for the split passion we all feel. l am proud to say this split passion has extended into very wise grandchildren. We truly enjoy following our teams including many complicated (at least now) trips to see games in person.
I love the team that wears the uniform. I often remember a skit from George Carlin who said we root for the “uniform”. That is really true and we as Kentucky fans have been fortunate that many talented and wonderful young men have worn that uniform. I look forward to this year with increased passion and hope. Oh well, my family says that is always my attitude. Anyway…bring on the next season. Go Big Blue.

In The Beginning ...
… God created Heaven, Earth and UK BB. My beginning was 1938 (you can do the math) on a farm in Washington Co. Parents were avid UK fans, my first recollection of Blue BB was the 1951 championship game vs KSU — who would have guessed I’d marry a KSU alum. UK ‘60 with AFROTC commission, USAF in ’61 for 8 years. Met my wife in Hollywood, she worked for Disney. Moved to her hometown in western Kansas in order to care for parents. Sold radio advertising and did HS and Juco sports play-by-play — actually did color for KU-UK from Rupp, my only time there, Cats won, still have tape. Eventually became owner of chain of stations. Two sons both KU alums; both attended Eddie Sutton BB camp. Retired in 2005 and along with wife moved to Boquete, Panama, a virtual paradise. 2007 bought a condo in Cotacachi, Ecuador, spend time in both places. Day trade, blog, and write for magazines, etc. mostly as a hobby. Was an avid follower of another site, The Cats Domain, for quite some time. They occasionally posted excerpts from ASoB and Tru’s writing really attracted me and consequently most of my considerable Internet time is spent here. Muchas gracias for the Internet and SlingBox as they make it possible to keep up with everything Blue. Chao.

OKAY, I'll go.
Born in 1947 in Western KY. Grew up on a farm. First experience following the ‘Cats was listening to games on our AM radio placed in the doorway between our dining room and front hall (best reception in the house). Played HS ball and, on the advice of my HS coach, who was on the ’58 NC team, went out for the freshman team in ’65-’66, the year of Rupp’s Runts. Fortunately, all but two of the scholarship guys flunked out so I got to play quite a bit. BTW, the Runts are still the best ball-handling team I’ve ever seen, bar none.
AF ROTC while at UK; spent 29 years as AF fighter pilot/staff puke (long-suffering wife and I are living in our 30th home!!!!). “Retired” in ‘99 and have been PGA club pro since (big, big difference between “professional golfer”-think Tiger Woods and “golf professional”-think beat-up old fighter pilot. The saying "those who can, do; those who can’t teach" comes to mind.) Now work full-time at private club in Williamsburg, VA, where I sometimes attend William and Mary bball games.
Great wife of 40 years; two great kids; five great grand-kids ages 6-9 (kids had them in litters!!) Wife tolerates my UK fandom; others don’t care one way or the other. Son went to undergrad school at UNC and med school at Vandy. Where, oh where did I go wrong?
Lost my idealism concerning all things sports (except professional golf!!) somewhere along life’s way. Would love it if all our recruits were Academic All-Americans, stayed four years, won four NCs along the way, had 4.0 GPAs, and became exemplary citizens. Since that just ain’t gonna happen, I’ll be content that we are again relevant in the NC discussion IF WE STAY OUT OF TROUBLE ALONG THE WAY.
Oh, yeah, GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

I have been wanting to ask you about a basketball hangout in Lexington. In the early 60’s we had a local boy on the UK roster. Pat Doyle played for North Marshall when they won the “Sweet Sixteen” in 1959.
We would call Pat and get his free comp. tickets. We paid for them to give them some pocket money.
Now to get to my question. After the game we all met at Hagan Hall for a snack. We left and after lights out we were met by several of the players at a spot reserved for the Wildcats. It was in the rear of a bar near campus. One of the reasons I think of this now is the ordeal with"Joe B’s" that just happened. I don’t remember paying for anything. The beer was served in quarts and was a brand I had not seen at home. Needless to say I thought I had died and gone to heaven hanging with “My Cats”

Lifelong Kentucky resident
Born and reared in Lebanon, Ky along with 3 brothers and 3 sisters and an avid UK sports fan, my Dad. It wasn’t hard to catch the fever watching him get so engrossed in the games. I worked in the insurance field along with Dad who was an independent agent for many years during my first marriage which ended in divorce after 5 years and 2 children. Met a guy almost 14 years my senior who was also an IA with 4 children and we married in June, 1977. I spent the next 8 years being a homemaker and mother and loved every minute. Returned to work for my husband eventually being the office manager until he sold his agency in 1998, and then I worked for the new owner for almost 4 years. I was completely burned out.
I have lived in Campbellsville, Ky since 1978. Lost my hubby of almost 27 yrs. in 2003. I remember dancing with him at my 50th birthday party and telling him that I had known him for half my life. Those were the best years of my life and I feel very blessed for having him.
I found ASOB via a link on John Clay’s site in mid January 2008. Like many I assume, I read for about 6 weeks or so until I finally joined in March. I just felt it was absolutely the best site I had seen for intelligent conversation about my beloved Wildcats without all the ugly stuff I had seen elsewhere. Thanks to all my fellow members and the authors here who always make me feel welcome.
Go Big Blue!
Big thanks to you BigSkyCat for the most welcome diversion.

About me...
I have been a lurker on ASOB for the past couple of years and have enjoyed keeping up with the latest about our beloved Wildcats. I am 52 years old, single and have just recently moved to Atlanta (Catlanta) from Nashville. I believe I may have signed up as NashvilleCatFan on ASOB before Tru made the latest upgrade to the site back in 08.
I have bled blue as long as blood has coursed through my veins…even before my memory of life was established inside my brain. I grew up in Kentucky (Murray), went to college at Murray State University and then to UK for medical school in 1979-83. As a medical student, I never missed a home basketball or football game (though I do not recall seeing the FB team pull out many victories during those years). I was blessed in getting to see some great live UK basketball as those BB days were the days of the twin towers Bowie & Turpin and other greats like Kenny Walker, Winston Bennett, Derrik Hord and many others.
After medical school, I went to Houston, Texas for my residency then in 1986 returned to western Kentucky where I practices one year before moving south of the border to Clarksville, Tennessee where I practiced for several years before taking a teaching position at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. Our family moved to Nashville in 1999 where my ex and my kids still live. I moved to Atlanta in February of this year.
I married during residency and have three wonderful kids. My son who will soon turn 25 bleeds blue. My two daughters soon to be 23 and 18 are Cat fans but are not rabid like my son and me. Once I returned to Kentucky from Houston in 1986, I attended home UK games at least once a year for about a dozen years…then became so busy in my career that I stopped making my annual pilgrimage to Kentucky’s Mecca (Rupp Arena) though about that same time, I did start attending the SEC tournament to follow the Cats. I have attended the SEC tourney for 12 of the last 15 years (did not go this year for obvious reasons). In 07, I was in attendance when the tornado hit downtown Atlanta barely missing a direct hit on the Georgia Dome. There is no question with the current turn-around of our recruiting prowess, I’ll begin making my annual pilgrimage to Rupp Arena as well as attend the SEC tournament this coming year and for the foreseeable future.
I no longer practice medicine but have for the past 10 years worked in the business side of medicine, having received an MBA from Vanderbilt in 1992 while I was in private practice. I now work as a Medical Director for a large HealthServices company. I am divorced yet have an amicable relationship with my ex-wife. As I mentioned, I recently moved to Atlanta…bought a house just north of the city in an area called Roswell. If there are other Cat Fans in the area, please drop me an email as I would love to make some new friends in the area.
I appreciate all of the hard work that Tru, Ken and others invest into maintaining this site. I want to thank you all for providing a forum by which we Cat Fans can follow our team and share our thoughts and points of view. Once again, I can honestly say, I am PROUD to be a University of Kentucky Wildcat fan and am excited about Kentucky Basketball! Embrace the Hate!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!
BTW, check out my tattoo I got in January: (If the photo does not show since I don’t see it nor the link in the “Preview” pane…go to www.myspace.com/UK_Cat_Fan and select “pics” and then select the “My photos” album. It is the last photo in that album).

Thanks Kykat51!!
My two oldest children have tattoos (“body art” as they describe them) so I told them I was going to get some “body art” too. They didn’t believe me…with my being their “old man”, 52 years young and don’t have any other tattoos…though I do have a two piercings in one ear and all…so I had my daughter make the appointment with her favorite tattoo artist who as you can see is incredibly talented…I told him what I wanted and after 2 hours of painstaking application…what you see is what I got. I am very proud of how it turned out.
In fact, I was in Jamaica in March sitting by the pool at the Ritz Carlton hotel and a family walks by and the Dad says, “Now there is a Kentucky Wildcat fan!” We struck up a conversation…they were from Owensboro and their son (who was with them and looked to be at least 6 ft 5in or so, said he was 14 and a freshman in high school and played basketball). He had on a Kentucky t-shirt confirming their loyalty!
Whooda thought a piece of “body art” would lead to a new friendship..in Jamaica nonetheless!
On the eighth day, God created the KENTUCKY WILDCATS.

My first memory
of UK was attending a game in the Ville in the early 70’s. The freshmen still had a team then and I remember my dad saying that the “kittens were playing”. I was at UK when we were on and came out of probation, so yes I really remember the unforgetables as I saw most of their games in person.
Currently, I am a 41 year old attorney in south central Ky. I attended WKU for undergrad and UK for law and have two daughters (age 2 and 5) that keep me young.

The name's Kevin
Some of you might know me by blubloodcatfan. I almost went with mustangcat! I grew up on 4 different 65 and 66 fastbacks! Have a white conv. now, 03. I hate it. Nothing wrong with the car, we just got 6 kids…… My wife had to have it. I’d give my right toenail for one of my old ones. I’m 46, closing fast on 47! Grew up and live in the E-town area also, and worked once in C-ville! (Say hi to joey ewing for me, he’ll call me “son”) (he’s a barber too.) I cut hair, and am currently the associate pastor at an AG church called Fountain of Life. That means Assembly of God. This is “full gospel”. Modern Pentecostal. Finished 3 years of studies, doing internship work for credentials. I did most of this stuff on my profile, like none of you all did!!!! My wife is the love of my life, and then some. We dated for 10 years and have been married for almost 17! (the 22nd)
We have no natural children, so like big dummies, we adopted 6!!! Someone help us please! They are true blessings, when they aren’t driving us nuts. We love them more then life. I’m working on my first book. It’s ministry-oriented. It’s called “the war within”. Pray for me on this. Getting it out of my head and on paper, then in print, is tough. I edit myself to death.
I became a UK fan about 1970 or so. The first game I vividly remember is the upset of Knight’s undefeated team! That’s when I got hooked. I’m nuts about UK sports, but not compared to some people I know! I remember Knight’s cuffing the back of Hall’s head, and have wished he’d have tried that one on me ever since! Can’t stand the man. Can’t stomach Roy at NC either. I’ve been hurtin since b-ball season. I remember King Rex destroyin UL! Prince’s raining three’s on Caralina! Mashburn’s phantom call against Mich., Woods shot against duke. I don’t recall the other one, my mind has blocked it out. But I will never forget Padgett and Shep two years later exacting revenge! The LSU miracle.
What’s not to love about UK? I love the football team almost as much. A friend flipped himself off the back of his couch when Yeast caught that long TD against Florida! (90 or 95 yards?) I love this site, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed yackin with everybody so far. Even Hozerwhatzizname. Where are you Hozerbuddyolepal?

Lol, give him a little string here. Hey he does perk up the commentary at times. IMO I think he is ok guy, just picked the wrong team. And besides he has to deal with all his KY folks back home who are UK followers.
Good luck on your book and I hope it is a huge success. You and your wife are a huge inspiration in this world adopting 6 children. So very nice to hear the good human interest stories amongst all the bad news stuff.
Perseverace, love and good role models are the best I can offer in rearing children. They are indeed a blessing and bring many smiles to our life, but they can also be hair-pulling brats especially during the tumultous teen years. Good luck again! and many prayers.
Just rear them all to be part of the BBN as I am sure you will.

Nah, just messin. I do wish the olehozerman would grace us with his personal post! Better late then never. I’ll NEVER call him by his right moniker name. My way of respectin the enemy. I’ll say this much, he is a UK fan and doesn’t know it yet! But the closet door is comin open some. No good UK fan would spend so much time developing relationships in the enemy camp! The fact that he comes here so much to chat with us reveals his UK fanship. He’s just in denial. No Egyptian jokes please. I hope he stays with us, and brings some friends!

Wildcat in Gator Nation
I guess I’m one of the youngest members to post so far on here. I’m 20 years old, born in Louisville and lived in Hardinsburg, KY for a few years but for the past 9 years i’ve lived in Orlando, FL right in the heart of Gator country. I’ve switched all my pro teams over to FL teams like my Buccaneers, Rays, Magic and Lightning but I wouldn’t so much as wear an orange and blue shirt to save my life. Watching the UK games becomes huge family events for me and my family. (Thank God CBS plays 99.9% of Wildcat games down here.) I don’t make a great amount of posts here.. I kind of have a don’t speak unless I have a meaningful contribution mindset, but i really love to read a lot of your posts and try to learn as much as I can. I’m really psyched about this year and hope it brings more exciting games.

Ok, I figure I might as well
give everyone a shot at me while they can. I have spent 41 of the last 45 years( as of June 14) following my Cats as closely as I follow my paycheck. My first in person game was 1969 with my father and grandfather. I NEVER miss a game, unless I am under anesthesia ( tried to get out of that one). I have the pride of having met every coach we have had until now, ( was there one before Coach Rupp???…..lol) .I thought Coach Rupp was very big (didnt find out until later he wasnt ). Coach Hall was very quiet, Coach Sutton seemed to be in a hurry, Coach Pitino looked through me like he knew me all my life, Coach Smith was the nicest man I ever met, Coach Gillispie was very tense, and I’ll let you know when I meet Coach Calipari. I have gotten autographs from every team since 1983. I now own 17 T-shirts ( only 8 still fit, lol) 35 caps, 5 sweatshirts, 3 ties, 1 wristwatch, a dozen keychains, 3 sleeves of golf balls, 11 Maker’s Mark commemorative bottles( 6 of which are still full), 6 artist prints, 4 photo prints, koozies, cars, notepads, pens, pencils, mugs, commemorative glasses, coke bottles, 4 mini basketballs, 2 regular size , sweatpants, shorts, boxers, socks, 4 pr of shoes ( 1996, 1997,1998,2005)… and an entire room full of more that I cant keep up with…..all because I only have three things in my life that mean anything…..My God, My Family and My Cats!

UK Fan Since 1966
UC fan since 1958. Purdue fan since 1969. Still like all 3 teams.
First UK game was Kittens versus Bearcat frosh in January 1967.
Live in Chicago (since 1974) now. Attend 1 or 2 Wildcat basketball games per year.
Sister dated a Wildcat in mid-1970’s so I knew many of those players. Friend of Erik Daniels’ family so I knew some of the Cats in early 2000’s also.

Time for another late night blogger..Night two of "revelations"
It’s fascinating to get a little background from y’all. On some of you the background you’ve given fits perfectly my mental image and others totally surprised me. Thanks to each of you for letting us get to know you better…and thanks to BigSkyCat for reviving this idea.
I’m a first generation UK fan – my parents were from Georgia and Florida, my older sister went to Georgetown and my older brother went to WKU so I was the first to go to UK; and that was by default. Since I grew up less than a mile from where Commonwealth Stadium was to be built, I put UK on my SAT test and was automatically registered. I never could decide where else to go so off to UK I went. It was my greatest moment of indecision.
During my “5 year plan” of getting my degree (BSME) I was able to see the opening of Commonwealth Stadium, the last years of Memorial Coliseum and the opening of Rupp Arena and fortunate enough to see a 10-1 football team and a National Championship basketball team – thank goodness for that 5th year! It was good thing I left then anyway, the house we were renting from UK was to be torn down to make way for Wildcat Lodge. When I graduated UK I took with me an everlasting loyalty to the Blue.
I left Kentucky (gasp!) for Texas (Houston, Austin, Dallas) which lasted about 13 years then Colorado for another 8 years living the corporate life – I was a Dilbert character. I got married in Colorado and when we started having kids it was time for the corporate life to end. I wanted to spend time with my family not traveling and also introduce my Hawkeye wife to the south. We bought a business in Arkansas in 1997 which got us back to SEC territory and my dormant devotion was revived. Twenty something years of SWC then Big 12 sports is enough!
I believe I came to ASOB via a link from John Clay and have been entertained, tested, detested, amused and educated by all involved. Generally, I log on through the day, but most of my posting takes place late.
BTW – I’ve gotten questions on “hoboat33”. Its starts with a simple portmanteau of hobo and boat; the first is my past (and hopefully retirement) and the second is my passion – I love boats, water, etc. “33” is just a favorite number, not a birthyear or age. I’m in between at 53 yo.

a long distance relationship
I moved to Lexington in 1975 when I was 4 and was just old enough to remember the 1978 championship. Who knew it would be 20 long years before the next one?
I moved from Lexington when I graduated high school – to Indiana, South Carolina, Washington before beginning a career working overseas. First in Mexico, then Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Singapore again and now finally in Bangkok, where I am the CFO of an online hotel company (www.agoda.com).
No matter how far I go, the Cats are the one thing that keeps me connected to home. With a 12-13 hour time difference, I have had to take what I can get in terms of following the games live. A combination of internet radio, phone calls, and an elaborate Lexington-based slingbox setup mean that I don’t miss much except for sleep during the season.
And more and more, ASOB is where I come to find out what’s happening. Thanks to all of you for bringing me one step closer to home, one post at a time.

bkcat, just so you know, Bangkok is most likely my favorite city. Spent many happy days and nights there during the middle to late 60’s. Singhai beer, sapphires, Pattaya beach, the Klong and the Three Vikings (Wikings by the Thai) are among my favorite memories. Thanks for reminding me.

I'll bring up the rear : )
I did this LAST time this topic came around, but what the hell, I’ll share again anyway. I think of myself as an old-timer around here—I’ve been posting for 3 or 4 years, working on my THIRD head coach, as crazy and unexpected as that is, and have been reading for longer than that. I am a native of far west KY, and have recently returned to my hometown after being away from KY for about 6 years. Although I miss do really miss decent shopping (my obsession with clothes nearly rivals my one with UK basketball!) and good ethnic food out here in the country, KY is my place and my people and I love it here. I think Kentuckians have a special kind of pride in and love for their state that natives of other states just don’t have as strongly, which probably has a little something to do with how strongly people feel about UK basketball. I know for me, my love of it is very tied up in my love for KY, the place, because I do like sports in general, but UK basketball is the only one I’m really passionate about.
When a game isn’t on, you’ll rarely find me without my nose stuck in a book; I simply adore reading, always have. I also love travelling (on the cheap) and oddly, camping. I say oddly because I am one of the girliest girls you’ll meet—my husband says I’m the only person he’s ever heard of that will camp in a skirt : )
I went to Western Kentucky for undergrad and UK for grad school. I’m married to a Louisville fan, but he’s pretty nice, I swear. Let me tell you, I cannot WAIT to give him hell when we start kicking their asses again. I already use a picture of my real self as an avatar—so between that, this post and the getting-to-know-you post back when, I’ve practically shared my whole biography with you people!

Very nice.
I have a few friends who are Louisville fans, and they’re OK, too. :-)
Fortunately, my wife had no idea about college basketball when we married, so I brought her up properly. :-)

Ok
I’ve been here about 3 years, the first year or so as a lurker. I found this site from a link at Spams page.
I’m 29, married, with my first on the way.

Stumbled on this way late, but
I think my “bio” thingy says enough, but I’ll bite:
I turn 28 this month. I was born and raised in Ashland, where everyone is a UK fan (with a few scattered Mountaineer fans). I attended undergrad at Centre College and law school at Washington University in St. Louis where I continued to follow my Cats coutesy of ESPN Full Court and Tom’s Bar and Grill on Euclid. I work for a large law firm in Louisville now practicing business litigation.
I’ve been married two years this coming August to a wonderful Louisville fan. We have no children as of yet. Lucky for me, her fandom does come close to approaching my level, to the point that she’ll even wear UK blue in Rupp Arena. That’s love, I tell ya.
I stumbled across ASOB in late 2007 or early 2008, if I remember correctly.

I spent a week in Ashland one night :)
I dated a girl back in the early ’80’s who was from Louisa. We spent some time in Ashland, which I thought at the time was a dirty city.
But, I had the chance to spend quite a bit of time in Ashland in the mid-90’s and I couldn’t believe the transformation. The town was absolutely beautiful, with plenty of “things to do.” They began taking advantage of the waterfront, and seemed to encourage a business expansion in and around that area.

Yeah, it's sort of a mixed bag.
In the 40s, 50s, and early 60s, Ashland was a boom-town and one of the largest cities in Kentucky (add in a then-booming Huntington, WV too, and there was a pretty large population). It was relatively professional, with Armco Steel and Ashland Oil headquartered there, as well as a large operation of Kentucky Power (bought by AEP eventually). There were great restaurants, bars, and even a casino at some point. At its peak, Asland had a population approaching 50,000, and combined with Huntington, thea area was probably close to 200,000 people.
Later, Ashland Oil moved large portions of its professionals to Findlay, OH, KY Power to Columbus and elsewhere, and Armco Steel was bought by AK, and currently has heavily decreased operations. In the 90’s they built the mall and then Walmart, and the downtown area began to dry up and businesses shuttered.
Recently, there has been a bit more activity in the downtown area, but still the area (Ashland and Huntington) is on a decline. The younger population is moving away, so it’s currently experiencing a shrinking and aging population. It’s all a shame, because Ashland is a very pretty place, with great spots along the river, a very nice park (Central Park) in the downtown area, a historic and picturesque downtown, and beautiful, old stately homes close to the park and along 13th street.
It was once a very sophisticated, progressive place, but that has changed over the years.

I totally forgot about Ashland losing Ashland Oil and Armco.
That would certainly effect the economy as well as opportunity.
I just thought it was beautiful. Your right about it being picturesque. I love small towns with rivers running through, or very near them. Something nostalgic that I can’t put my finger on.

Well,
the refinery portion of Ashland Oil (now Marathon) is still kicking, and a few white-collar jobs remain, but not nearly what used to be there. Armco (now Ashland Kawasaki Steel) is largely dead, though I think they crank up the operations periodically.
The funny thing about Ashland is that it is a relatively small town, and does have that feel to some extent, but it’s also populated by far more highly educated and progressive people than is typical for a small town, ESPECIALLY a small town in Eastern Kentucky. The carryover from a multitute of white-collar jobs plus Kings’ Daughters Hospital (by far the largest medical center in probably close to a 100 mile radius) makes for an interesting dynamic, to be sure.
Unfortunately, at this point, the hospital is largely the only thing keeping the local economy alive.

Since my last post not much has changed
except my kids getting older and my schedule at work. I still TD at KATV but now I am responsible for the Daybreak show from 5 – 7 am M-F primarily. Yes, I get up at 3:15 AM so this last season was an exercise in patience, especially since i currently don’t have a DVR, VCR, or TiVO. couple of times i told myself that i wasn’t going to stay up for the 8:00 pm tipoff. 11pm I am going to bed wondering why the hell I stayed up for that loss already knowing that in less than four hours i will be waking up in a bad mood.
i grew up knowing that my dad was a UL/UK fan. he hasn’t been much into the wardrobe representation department but he does have his collectibles. because i grew up with a partial set of legs i didn’t participate in sporting activities much. i liked them early on but once i hit my teen years it was metal/ chicks and the rockstar dream!
since this site is like a therapy session for me at times i’ll openly admit that i sported Notre Dame gear for a year until i came out of my LSD induced fog and found the UK Blue again….whew!!! close one! it all started with a buddy of mine in Delawhere? who convinced me my Irish roots were a dominant theme in my life. I still celebrate it but with a blue hue :)
my earliest memory of watching a UK game was the comeback at LSU. i was getting into basketball real heavy again ( my favorite sport, i’ve watched Japanese midget squads play while in Tokyo before) when I witnessed that game, not in person unfortunately. that game put into motion the idea that even though UK was a giant of a program it could still face insurmountable odds at times and with a little effort, some great decision making and a kiss o the blarney UK often won.
i was really pissed when Spitino chose to jet UK. saddened but understanding when Tubby left and really pissed with this latest fiasco ( I still feel it could have been handled a bit smoother, you know, Old Spice smooth) but I am excited to see what Calipari can do for our program.
I don’t remember how I found this site, i think my wife found it for me actually. she usually finds the cool stuff on the internuts, i just follow the breadcrumbs. since the first day i signed up i have been addicted. i don’t always post but i often have an opinion on a subject like everyone else here and that’s what i like about this place. you can place your opinion out there, get it off your chest if its too heavy to carry. sometimes folks like it often times you rub them the wrong way and we let you know about it!! :) i also like it when “new” folks post their thoughts….new perspectives bring some spring rain freshness around here….. you can’t have ABC and a2D2 hogging the posts all the time!! lol!

No VCR, etc.?
Seems like you should be able to root around KATV and find something to help get the games recorded.

Our sat receivers are usually pointed at
some other coordinates, believe me, i’ve tried! Plus it is a hassle to go through the ancient equipment (we work in a museum, yes, really) just to get a recording of something. I have been able to get the split signal that JP/LIncoln Financial/Raycom would send on Wed and Saturday’s if UK was being broadcast and watch the game.
I will own a recording device this year! I used to have one, just lost it in the fire last year. i haved moved three times since may of last year with one more to go this sept. by the time i get done unpacking it should be basketball season and i’ll reward myself with a dvd recorder. woo hoo!

Alright...alright.
Grew up in Northern Kentucky during the Big Red Machine so baseball was my first love. Became a state champion swimmer. Attended Centre College my first two years until I realized a chemistry degree was better pursued at a larger state school. Considered going to either UK or UofL, but Louisville won on a ‘coin-flip’. Many of my highschool friends went to UK…none to UofL.
Moved into Miller Hall right across the hall and one door down from Darrell Griffith & Bobby Turner for two years. Knew both of them well and fell immediately in love with college basketball. Became an absolute rabid fan, because I knew those guys well. I lived with them. Developed a real level of aggravation when Joe B. referred to us as ‘little brothers’ and when the national press made snide remarks about the team (re: Tom Brookshire)
However, only sibling and youngest brother chose UK. Had some unbelievable ‘arguments’ during the Christmas holidays and remember almost getting into a rumble in our family church pew one year back home. The old man loved that…. I remember feeling 6 yrs old on the drive back home.
That same brother drove 8 hours to watch the mid-80’s Midwest (?) Regional finals that were played in Knoxville on the game with the Cats and Cards. Remember when the Cards slammed UK back to the stone age in overtime?
Married a girl 27 yrs ago from Henderson that is a graduate from WKU. Being from Henderson, her entire family and friends were UK fans. Heard from them CONSTANTLY. However, easily ‘converted’ the wife and eventually one of the sisters who has seen the light living in Louisville. One of my two nieces attends UK and is trying to get into med school. She really loves UK. Still visit Henderson all the time.
My love for basketball was ‘strengthened’ having lived in Indy during the height of the IU and Purdue years. Loved following both teams but learned to ‘hate’ BK. What a jerk. Loved Gene Keady.
Have two great sons of which one is currently studying abroad in Europe and the youngest one going to U of Iowa in the fall. Took my oldest to the UofL v. MSU game in Indy this year. Damn.
Moved around with a top global company in sales management. Probably have to professionally respond to ~150 emails per day. Consider this site and some others an opportunity to ‘type like a kid’….if for no other reason, it allows me to keep my sanity. Sport is the sandbox of life.

BTW Me Too
Fort Mitchell (cake eater) from 1951 through 1974. Presume you are Fort Thomas (cake eater).
Attended Reds World Series games in 1961-70-72-75 & 76.
Went to Purdue (1969 through 1974) and met Coach Keady (along with Tubby) during 2000 Olympics. DYK that Mrs. Keady recently passed away?
And it was Eddie Sutton (not Joe Hall) who coined the Little Brother phrase referring to Louisville.
by FortyYearCatFan on Jun 11, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You are correct about the Little Brother remark.
There was so much for me to dislike about Eddie Sutton that I guess I was subconsciously giving him a break.
I remember sitting just inside the left field foul pole in the green seats with my little brother against the A’s…I think it was 1972. At that time there was a no name catcher by the name of Gene Tenace at the plate when Sparky made a visit to the mound. As he returned to the dugout and as I put the binoculars back in the case, we heard a crack of the bat and almost got hit by his first of a few homeruns from that World Series. As with Brooks Robinson, the Reds made him an instant star. Damn.
Did not know about Keady’s wife. Didn’t she hurt herself in a kitchen fall a number of years ago?

Mrs Keady Died From A Longtime Illiness
I think it was cancer but I’m not sure.
I met Brook Robinson here in Chicago (at Billy Goats on lower Michigan) in 1985. We talked about that 1970 Series. DYK that he nearly signed with the Reds in 1950’s coming out of HS?
