Not sure yet who #1 was, but I am guessing it was Blake Griffin.

Well ...

… there has been some late boosting of his stock by some, and one guy thought he might go as high as 17. I am still feeling the early second round. Under 40.

Jodie ..17 to the Sixers - maybe - good luck Jodie

I think it’s a nice gesture for Cal to keep his scholly open until after the draft – maybe he won’t fill it at all …. I doubt Jodie will go undrafted.

Speculation: Watch for an unknown at the end of the 2nd round, Garret Siler from D-2 Augusta State University. He’s 7’0, 278 and has gotten some interest from Miami.

When the T-Wolves

So...

the Wolves have pretty much given up for the next few years by trading everyone away for draft picks…will probably be good in the long run for them I guess though.

LOL

Im not happy with Detroit’s picks but there wasnt a whole lot in the draft to get real excited about. I would have loved it if Jodie could play for the Pistons but they are stacked in the backcourt and need more players in the frontcourt. I dont like taking players with “potential” like Daye who averaged 12ppg in college.

a little late

second rounders have no deal parameters per say. I would be surprised if he gets a three year deal. Probably two years approaching 1.5 mill for the whole contract. The good thing about this though is if he plays well he will reach his second contract before a lot of first rounders and make more money over the life of his career. First rounders typically have a 3 yr deal with the third year a team option I believe. It takes them longer to reach the big money. For this to be a good thing he has to play well though.

is a rumor, I know, and this won’t be confirmed for a day or two I’m told. But this comes from a good source of mine who is talking as we speak to insiders that insist it’s solid. Prince

Prince in the best-situated recent draftee. Perhaps Forty could furnish an overview of players who were drafted from RP time frame through Jodie. I only know most including Chuck Hayes (who was a great favorite of mine)…have all worked hard to gain any playing time…with the exception of Prince. Watching this draft I was amazed at the non-careers of most of the #1 picks and hot talents. .

by CAWebb on Jun 25, 2009 11:41 PM EDT reply actions

Cats in the draft

Mash — Fourth overall
Dent — 2nd 31st overall
A. Walker — 6th overall
Delk — 16th overall
McCarty — 19th overall
Pope — 2nd 52nd overall
Mercer — 6th overall
D. Anderson — 13th overall
Mohammed — 29th overall
Padgett — 28th overall
Magliore — 19th overall
Prince — 23rd overall
Bogans — 43rd overall
Crawford last year — Late 2nd

by Ken Howlett on Jun 25, 2009 11:54 PM EDT reply actions

Thanks

Mercer is surely a surprise. I don’t remember that…and I thought Prince was higher. The list now leads to which had a career in the bigs. Drafting is not a science it looks like. The same type of variability from high school to college.

Now instead of sleeping…I have to follow your list for more information and visit a few old favorites. I love Mashburn and Delk. I watch silly Detroit just to follow Prince. I love being a Kentucky fan.

Thanks again for the information.

NO problem

I should have listed the teams they were drafted by, though. Oh heck, here goes: Mash — Dallas, Dent — Magic, Walker — Celtics, Delk — Hornets (Charlotte), McCarty - Knicks, Pope- Pacers, Mercer — Celtics, Anderson — Cavs, Mohammed — Jazz, Padgett — Jazz, Magliore — Hornets (Charlotte), Prince — Pistons, Bogans — Bucks, Crawford – Lakers.

Dejuan Blair

Dejuan Blair in the second round is the steal of this draft. Yes, he had knee operations in high school, but he never missed a game or a practice at Pitt. Last season he DOMINATED the second overall pick, not once but twice.

Cleveland had a chance to pick this guy up, to add him to a frontcourt that already includes Lebron and Shaq. Instead they took some guy from the Congo who won’t be ready for at least two years, if then.

The Spurs took Blair. There’s a reason they’ve been so successful in recent years.

He is a steal.

His ACL issues put teams off him, but he is a real value. There is no more physical player anywhere, even in the NBA right now.

Great Story At #58 In The Draft

http://www.nba.com/draft2009/prospects/154.html

This young man had to skip a few workouts in order to graduate. He CHOSE to do that so he could graduate.

What’s the big deal? Well, due to a very diffult early life, he had NEVER graduated from ANY level of school before. Not grade school, high school, or junior college.

Graduation was more important to him than a few spots in the NBA draft.
