Thabeet goes #2
Not sure yet who #1 was, but I am guessing it was Blake Griffin.

Harden goes third.
Bit of an upset, I think.

Well ...
… there has been some late boosting of his stock by some, and one guy thought he might go as high as 17. I am still feeling the early second round. Under 40.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
I kinda hope he goes
somewhere in the southeast division because i live in Orlando now so I could see him play more often
Wow.
The T-wolves have four (4!) first round picks! Dayuuuuummmm.

Man. Only 18 years old. Wow.
It will take him a while.

Jodie ..17 to the Sixers - maybe - good luck Jodie
I think it’s a nice gesture for Cal to keep his scholly open until after the draft – maybe he won’t fill it at all …. I doubt Jodie will go undrafted.
Speculation: Watch for an unknown at the end of the 2nd round, Garret Siler from D-2 Augusta State University. He’s 7’0, 278 and has gotten some interest from Miami.
You never know.
I still think second round. I’m hoping for one of the last five picks in the first.

This kid is a major athlete.
The T-wolves just got deep at the one. Or some trade fodder for later. Hard to have too many point guards these days. :-)
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
When the T-Wolves
traded for that fourth pick, I thought for sure they wre going to take Meeks with the #28, but they went with Ellington instead.

So...
the Wolves have pretty much given up for the next few years by trading everyone away for draft picks…will probably be good in the long run for them I guess though.
Surefire way to get a coach fired though
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Heh.
There’s that, of course.

Curry.
Wow. I just don’t buy him as a top ten draft pick. I just don’t.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
Yeah.
We’ll have to see. Guys who shoot as well as he does can always get minutes, but when you pick a guy #7, you expect big minutes. I’m not sure that’ll happen.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
I believe he is 5'10" or even under.
He is short.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
He is 5'10.75" :-)
I just checked. Without shoes.

That guy is an elite athlete.

So, Pitino had two first rounders (assuming Clark goes here in a little bit) and could not make the final four.
Heh.
Well, I guess we could indulge in a little schadenfreude. :-)

Hansbrough! Wow, that's high. Much higher than I thought.
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
I don't think anyone expected him to be the first Carolina player picked. Would he have even gone to the Pacers if he weren't from Indiana?
Wait ...
… I thought he was from Missouri … ?
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
Two lottery picks for Rick.
I know this sounds like forty, but can you imagine what would have been said about Tubby if he had two lottery picks on his team and couldn’t get to a final four whereas nothing has been said about Rick?
Heh.
Yep. There would be … repercussions. :-)

I would not have picked him that high. Crazy. The guy is soft as Charmain.

OMG
I just turned on ESPN to watch the draft and it’s Dick Vitale messing in his pants about Hansborough. Now I have to eat dinner, again!
Man, I sure am glad to see someone else post.
I was beginning to think that the three of us had no life.
0 faith in the Timberwolves now.
I could understand two pgs, but not three. Hopefully there is a plan to convert one of them to a 2 guard.

Lawson is quick ... we've got a guy coming to UK that may be a little quicker ...
This time next year will be interesting … Maybe the T-Wolves will draft our starting five
I can’t believe I am still watching this…wishing on Jodie…the two foreign picks took two slots…and just Thunder took another one…these were certainly the wild cards.
Bulls/Lakers coming up ... both need outside shooters
Calathes and Marcus Thornton still out there ….

And with the 31st pick in the 2009 NBA Draft...
Jodie Meeks has decided to go back to Kentucky! …. huh? what? I wasn’t snoring!
Jodie
Should have gone ahead of some of these first rounders!!
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
I'm starting to think Jodie might be a Wildcat next year
There is still alot of good players yet to be picked
If he doesn't get picked
What are the chances of him coming back?
whats with all the foreign talent??
was Jerebko on anyone’s boards?
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Hey guys
Got a really hot rumor for ya’ll!! A really good friend of mine just called me and told me that there’s a certain Henry fella that ain’t happy at KU, and has never yet signed a LOI, and is going to be filling that final scholly. It’s a strong rumor, Was told it ’s a “done deal”.
The family supposedly has had a falling out of sorts with Self.

Not sure how he fits into Milwaukee's scheme of things
but he will make his way….Congrats Jodie!!!
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Good luck
with the bucks jodie!
If Redd still plays for them he has a great 2 guard to learn from.
JXClaytor on the 360
Congrats, Jodie!
The Bucks, huh? Well, that’s cool. Does he still get guaranteed money at this point in the draft?
I know literally next to nothing about the Bucks, but I do think that Kelvin Sampson is an assistant for the Bucks, or at least he was at some point……
Meeks
No guaranteed money…just a negotiated salary
He should still be able to pull down a mil or 2
with a decent summer
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
A mil or 2.
In his dreams :)
If he makes the squad, he won’t approach a million per year. Not yet, anyway.
by Ken Howlett on Jun 25, 2009 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions
Not sure I agree....he would get a roster bonus if he makes it
add that to a decent salary, he could get 1-2 mil over 3 yrs
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I think the bigger problem is making it with
all of those guards you mentioned below
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Oh ...
1-2 mil over the course of three years. Yes, I would agree with that. I thought you meant PER year.
My bad.
by Ken Howlett on Jun 25, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions
they would try to sign him for at least three years to start right?
assuming he makes it….
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Now, on that I'm not sure ...
… but I think most rookie deals are for three years.
Where’s davw when you need him?

I know they just picked Budinger ...
… do you now who they picked earlier?

LOL
Im not happy with Detroit’s picks but there wasnt a whole lot in the draft to get real excited about. I would have loved it if Jodie could play for the Pistons but they are stacked in the backcourt and need more players in the frontcourt. I dont like taking players with “potential” like Daye who averaged 12ppg in college.
DEEETROIT BASKETBALLL!!!
$$$$
Second round has guidelines….minimums it looks like.
http://tinyurl.com/ndhko5
looks like more than your average scholarship. Happy for jodie
You know,
I just keep thinking back to last years draft and didn’t Joe go around 42nd or something? He never did end up making the Lakers roster and I thought he actually had a great shot, and not to be a big party-pooper here, but what makes Jodie so different?
a little late
second rounders have no deal parameters per say. I would be surprised if he gets a three year deal. Probably two years approaching 1.5 mill for the whole contract. The good thing about this though is if he plays well he will reach his second contract before a lot of first rounders and make more money over the life of his career. First rounders typically have a 3 yr deal with the third year a team option I believe. It takes them longer to reach the big money. For this to be a good thing he has to play well though.
DEEETROIT BASKETBALLL!!!
Good to see
Jodie go ahead of Thornton and Billy Donovan Jr.
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
Bucks
Well, he’ll be battling Bogans for a spot.
Michael Redd is their leading scorer, they also have Ramon Sessions, and Damon Jones
Henry
is a rumor, I know, and this won’t be confirmed for a day or two I’m told. But this comes from a good source of mine who is talking as we speak to insiders that insist it’s solid. This is still floating around out there in thin air, but it’s from someone I trust that don’t call me with just anything. So, hang on. Time will tell.

Hey fella's, and ladies,
Sorry to write and run, I don’t get alot of time to spend on the puter in between chasing 3 and 5 year olds back to bed! Girls should be illegal until they’re like 20! They’re to cute to spank, and they know it! We dad’s have no chance. The rumor is growing legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heard from another source today as well. Still a rumor, but between us friends…………………………

Second round with the Bucks, now that's a start
Going into the second round, at one of the cesspools of the NBA. I don’t know what Jodie was expecting, but there’s no doubt now that he’ll have to play himself into the NBA. Good luck. You’ve got an uphill battle.
its not great, but I honestly dont think he would be a LOT better off next year
MAYBE 7-8 spots, with a miracle season back into the low 1st round
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
Prince
Prince in the best-situated recent draftee. Perhaps Forty could furnish an overview of players who were drafted from RP time frame through Jodie. I only know most including Chuck Hayes (who was a great favorite of mine)…have all worked hard to gain any playing time…with the exception of Prince. Watching this draft I was amazed at the non-careers of most of the #1 picks and hot talents. .
Cats in the draft
Mash — Fourth overall
Dent — 2nd 31st overall
A. Walker — 6th overall
Delk — 16th overall
McCarty — 19th overall
Pope — 2nd 52nd overall
Mercer — 6th overall
D. Anderson — 13th overall
Mohammed — 29th overall
Padgett — 28th overall
Magliore — 19th overall
Prince — 23rd overall
Bogans — 43rd overall
Crawford last year — Late 2nd
Thanks
Mercer is surely a surprise. I don’t remember that…and I thought Prince was higher. The list now leads to which had a career in the bigs. Drafting is not a science it looks like. The same type of variability from high school to college.
Now instead of sleeping…I have to follow your list for more information and visit a few old favorites. I love Mashburn and Delk. I watch silly Detroit just to follow Prince. I love being a Kentucky fan.
Thanks again for the information.
NO problem
I should have listed the teams they were drafted by, though. Oh heck, here goes: Mash — Dallas, Dent — Magic, Walker — Celtics, Delk — Hornets (Charlotte), McCarty - Knicks, Pope- Pacers, Mercer — Celtics, Anderson — Cavs, Mohammed — Jazz, Padgett — Jazz, Magliore — Hornets (Charlotte), Prince — Pistons, Bogans — Bucks, Crawford – Lakers.

Bogans
I thought he was drafted by the Magic…
I know that’s who he was playing for until he was traded this year.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
I believe ...
… he was drafted by Milw. but was involved in a draft day trade.
My info came from the Media Guide, but thye’ve been known to get a factoid wrong.

Dejuan Blair
Dejuan Blair in the second round is the steal of this draft. Yes, he had knee operations in high school, but he never missed a game or a practice at Pitt. Last season he DOMINATED the second overall pick, not once but twice.
Cleveland had a chance to pick this guy up, to add him to a frontcourt that already includes Lebron and Shaq. Instead they took some guy from the Congo who won’t be ready for at least two years, if then.
The Spurs took Blair. There’s a reason they’ve been so successful in recent years.

He is a steal.
His ACL issues put teams off him, but he is a real value. There is no more physical player anywhere, even in the NBA right now.

Great Story At #58 In The Draft
http://www.nba.com/draft2009/prospects/154.html
This young man had to skip a few workouts in order to graduate. He CHOSE to do that so he could graduate.
What’s the big deal? Well, due to a very diffult early life, he had NEVER graduated from ANY level of school before. Not grade school, high school, or junior college.
Graduation was more important to him than a few spots in the NBA draft.
