Celtics Look To Deal Rondo
I am going to assume this is a money thing, in spite of what ESPN is reporting.
ESPN is reporting that the Celtics are again fishing with Rajon Rondo as bait. I do not know how much of this is true or not, but they offered Rondo and Ray Allen to the Pistons for a big chunk of their lineup. This is reportedly the 2nd or 3rd time that Boston has done this since the playoffs. ESPN claims that Rondo is giving his coach problems, and that combined with his contract expiring at the end of next season he has become a liability for Boston.
Boston will regret letting this kid go. Just my opinion, but they will. So where does the young man end up?? I do not know, but I would start a team with Rondo, Meeks, and a couple of the players that are available for trade right now if I were a few of the teams that were cellar dwellers last year in the NBA. There is really good talent out there right now for the taking. A team could remake itself quickly with a choice big man added to the guys above.
Update: 06/24/2009- Trades have started flashing across boards all afternoon. Teams are trying to trade their way up in the draft, we may see more about this soon. Or not. Thank you Danny Ainge. Manuvering will continue up until draft times for each team.

Pistons
said “No way!” I was talking about this earlier with a co-worker. According to him, the deal was Rondo and Allen for Prince and two other guys. If this is the case, cant say that I blame them – Rondo is good, but he’s no Tayshaun Prince (IMO)!
It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

Big mistake for C's
Look at the crowd from Boston games last season… you saw a bunch of Garnett and Pierce jersies of course, but I’d say the third most common jersey among the fans was Rajon Rondo. At Christmas, when the Celtics were playing the Lakers I heard Bill Walton talking about the game on ESPN radio and he said “Rajon Rondo and company are headed out west to take on the Lakers.” The kid is a commodity. Trading him would be a mistake.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Wilt Chamberlain
All got traded (some more than once) during their NBA careers.

Just curious 40
you think any of those teams got the better end of the trades that involved their stars? I know Milwuakee, Philly, and Orlando did not, not sure about Cincy where Robertson is concerned.

Royals Did Not Get Better
It was $ move. The team moved to KC the next year.
Star players get traded often. Sometimes it helps, often it doesn’t.

Trade rumors
Ive never planned on becoming a Celtics fan even though i like Rondo.
Here’s my issue’s with this trade rumor. Tay and Rip for Rondo and Allen
If you are the Celtics who’s your point guard now? You have Tay, Rip, Pierce, Perkins, and KG. You essentially have two small forwards at one spot. I know some might argue Tay could back Pierce up but Tay makes 11 mill per. Your backup small forward doesnt make that kind of money no matter who you are and if you are the C’s you now have no point guard.
The deal makes slightly more sense for the Pistons. Rodney Stuckey is your future. He can play the one or the two but if you have Allen and Rondo coming in you have three guards and you now have no small forward. You can certainly play a three guard line up with Rondo, Stuckey, and Allen but you are going to be small and they tried that last season with different personnel at times and it didnt work. Rondo is outstanding play at the point guard position for the money he is currently making (not much).
Allen provides some outside shooting which the Pistons sorely need and his contract may come off the books next season (im not sure) but I figure you are overloaded in the backcourt and you still need a small forward cause Allen aint the answer at the 3 spot full time. If you take Rondo and Allen to deal later you cant trade them before December and Stuckey is untouchable.

Pistons.com
Pistons.com is reporting the deal was offered by the Celtics and was Stuckey, Rip and Tay, for Rondo and Allen.
Now the deal makes more sense if you are the celtics because you now have a starting point guard. The deal is laughable if you are the Pistons however. There’s no way in a million years that Allen and Rondo are worth Stuck, Rip and Tay. Maybe two for two but not those two for three.

I would make that trade if I was Boston in a split second.
Stuckey – who is just as good as Rondo (exc. for general defense), and hasn’t hit a ceiling yet – is your new PG, and you give up a fading Allen for Prince AND Hamilton.

My personal opinion is that
trading away 2 of your 4 best players is a mistake by any team, unless you get equal players in return. I dont see Hamilton as an equal to what Rondo is becoming. Prince for Allen would have been a coup of sorts for them since Allen is as old as he is. I just didnt think that Rondo was being that difficult to coach, I know he had some words with his coach during the playoffs, but any big time player is going to have times where he butts heads with someone. Rondo just wants to win, and has already delivered 1 championship. With a piece to replace Allen and just a little more 3 point shooting, Boston is right back in it. Injuries killed a VERY good team, perhaps one of the best ever

is that they could deal Rondo to move up in the draft.

Moving up
Why?
There’s no one outside of Griffin worth moving up for and you lose a great player you are paying hardly anything?

I believe the rumor started because
Boston wanted a player and a pick (anywhere in the first round) since they only have 1 pick as it stands. And that sole pick is late in the 2nd round.

unless he is an absolute locker room cancer trading rondo for a draft pick would be the most absolute boneheaded move ainge could make.

Don't know much about Rubio ...
It seems that would be their (Boston’s) target …. agree they would be shooting self in foot with that move but I guess that’s why they get the big bucks and we get to speculate …
I wouldn’t mind seeing Rondo with Atlanta … they may need a point if they can’t resign Bibby … they have the 19th pick and may go for Ty Lawson if he’s still around …. they may also be considering Jodie – but that’s a stretch

Rubio
could be a good point guard in the NBA but he wouldnt be anywhere near ready to come in and lead a team gunning for a chip. There are big questions about his defense which would pale in comparison to Rondo’s and it’s not a given that Rubio plays this season in the NBA even if he is drafted. There are some big questions about his contract with DK Joventut his team in the Spanish league and the buyout he owes if he wants to leave.

Ainge would lie to his mother to make another blockbuster trade
I just think this is not going to be a blockbuster for Boston. They will not survive without a premier point guard. A second tier point guard will not get KG & Co back into the championship. Rondo developed more than any other single player this year. He became what the Celtics pride themselves on….

Realize And Regret
Realizing that the NBA is first and foremost a commercial enterprise — noticed that a Celtics owner, David Bonderman, firm TPG had a 69% ROI last year — and the vagaries of the NBA salary cap I can comprehend the trade of Rondo, Allen and whomever. Regrettably if it becomes fact I’ll be forced to root against #9 when his team plays the Green.
"The prosperity of commerce is now perceived and acknowledged by all enlightened statesmen to be the most useful as well as the most productive source of national wealth, and has accordingly become a primary object of its political cares."

Not even a good rumor
Tay, Rip and Stuckey for Allen and Rondo.
Vinnie J. needs a CT Scan if he ever considered such a deal. And unless Rondo is packin’ in practice, Ainge getting rid of the top young point in the league (save Chris Paul) just doesn’t make any sense at all.

Yes ... why the unrest??
Celtics made a commendable run in the playoffs … to be without KG and I thought Rondo was playing beyond his years for them …. it’d have to be pretty bad before I would break up the chemistry there.
It’ll be interesting to see teams next year positioning themselves to get Wall ..

Could it be that room is being made for John Wall in Boston?
Of course the Celtics would have to have an awful year or trade up for the top spot in next year’s draft.

Oh there were problems
He didn’t get benched for being a nice guy and I’m sure KG has about had it. I always thought Rondo would be a good pro, but I’ve never really liked him. That said he must really be into it with some of the Boston players if they are trying to deal a young, potential all-star pg.

Not a good idea if true
by the Celts.
Wouldn’t be a bad move by the Cavs if they could acquire Rondo. That would be an instant Finals qualifier tandem! I almost wish my Spurs needed a good guard……
Maybe I’m a little biased (ya think?), but giving up Rondo at this juncture in his career would be foolish.

Bob Ryan whines if the sun is in the wrong spot when he sees it,
however, if the things he said are true, then Ainge will not hesitate to pull the trigger. He cannot stand a prima donna. I believe that the theory about not needing a point guard to win an NBA championship is flawed logic, because the game has evolved, but history teaches us that you dont argue with the numbers. I still say this is a money thing, and with them having to renegotiate his contract, they are going to play poor mouth until its over.

Point Guard
I dont think you have to have an amazing point to win the champ but IMO you do have to have a veteran point. If you lose Rondo a rookie aint going to get it done for you.
