Maybe this will give Miller the playing time he will need for the starting SG this season…

Good News For Darius, Better News For UK
Hope he gets the opportunity to enjoy the Kiwis. Diverse country, diverse culture, joyful people, at least it was 40+ years ago.

This is excellent for Darius Miller,
and will be extremely beneficial to UK. Miller will essentially gain 10 days of in-game experience that he would not have gotten otherwise. As we are all aware, if there is one player from last year’s team that is going to have to pick up the outside shooting slack now that Meeks is gone, it’s Miller. He’s also likely going to play more minutes than he would have.
Also, spending time learning from Jamie Dixon, Matt Painter, etc. can’t hurt.

Great for him.
You couldn’t ask for more experience. It will pay off for him and the team.

Tay Prince Played For USA Basketball In 2000
He became A-A in 2001 and 2002.
The same could happen for Miller.

JJ Redick Played for USA Basketball In 2003
He became an annoying dingleberry.

Even BSA Has Exceptions ...
… didn’t improve his 3-point shooting much either (0.8)

And The All-Time Leading Scorer At Duke
He was edged out as #1 ACC career scorer by Tyler Hansborough this season.

He wasn't an annoying dingleberry already?
And bonus points for making me laugh out loud with my new favorite insult.

Thank you, sir.
I think you’re right – JJ was a dingleberry from birth.

Miller Edged Boynton
Darius versatility was deciding factor plus 7/17 shooting. Terrico White (Ole Miss) and Howard Thompkins (Dawgs) also from SEC.

Awesome for Darius
He may be the next Meeks in terms of representing UK on and off the court. He’s one of those that you can see has the desire and work ethic to improve. If he continues to work hard, the sky will be the limit for this young man.

Cold Water
I’m not meaning to throw cold water on Miller making Team USA, but over the years I’ve heard coaches blame organized summer ball such as this for an unexpectedly poor performance from a player come college bb season. I hope that isn’t the case here.
Regardless, congratulations to Darius! He’ll be a great representative of UK and the US.

Oh, way to steal people's thunder, Ken!
Just kidding, of course. I actually do get your point and it does make some sense.
I’m so happy for Darius (my fellow Arian, btw) in that this is obviously something he wanted to accomplish and it’s quite an achievement for him to make the team and I hope he gets a great experience out of it and is able to improve his game, and have a little fun, too.
Oh, and Ken, as far as your theory about what you have "heard over the years", I suppose we will find out if it holds any water or not as Miller will be spending some summer months in lovely New Zealand with Team USA while Patterson and Orton will be spending some of their summer time on the west coast in Hell with Frank Matrisciano (link courtesy of Wild Weasel). It should be interesting to see what those three may or may not have gained from their respective and dramatically different summer basketball programs, and I for one, can’t wait to see the results of each.

It will be ineresting to see if there are drastic improvements within that group,
or if the opposite occurs.

It is actually winter in New Zealand right now...
That whole crazy Southern Hemisphere thing…(former mapmakers of the world, unite!);)

To be technically accurate....
It will be winter there in about a day and a half when the Winter Solstice (i.e. the first day of winter)happens in the Southern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice occurs (i.e. the first day of summer) in the Northern Hemisphere. Now back to your regularly scheduled basketball program….

Temperate, As I Recall
With the alleged global warming and melting ice caps one can never be sure but the two times I visited New Zealand (October 64 and March 65) there was little difference in temperatures. The marvelous thing about the country is the mix of mountains and beaches, snow and surf. Hope Darius gets a chance to see most of it.
