Jodie Meeks will stay in the draft
Will he sign with an agent? If not, could he possibly pull a Randolph Morris if he doesn't? Just askin'.
I think it's a real long shot, and I expect him to sign with an agent soon if he hasn't already.

Gonna miss ya man!
Thanks for a great year last year Jodie. I absolutely LOVED you as a Cat, good luck in the Association!
Can’t say it is all that surprising….weak draft class + loaded incoming class at UK and possible shared minutes = his best time to depart.

True.
This is a much better draft for Meeks to be in than next years’, most likely.

Yep, agreed....
but I sure do hate to see him leave. I’ll NEVER forget his buzzer beater vs. florida!!!

I'm not for sure, but...
…I thought they outlawed the whole “don’t get an agent, stay undrafted, go back to class” thing.

I think they did too

Magic Faxes - LOL!
That was absolutely ridiculous!
It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

That was my thought as well
I think they did close that loophole.
I’m pretty sure that Jodie must have a “guarantee” that someone will draft him in the first round if he’s staying in.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Plus ...
… it will only be possible (if it even still is) if he goes UNDRAFTED. If he gets drafted, even in the second round, he is a pro.

It's not gone, but there is a price to pay now
You can still come back to school if you stay in the draft but don’t sign an agent and don’t get drafted, however you cannot enter the draft again in the future. You can go through the draft process once.

Yep.
I knew that. He becomes a free agent, just like Morris did.

Not sure what this means for the young man
but I wish him all the best. I can tell my grandchildren that I watched that kid play in person….
Remember, we're having fun now!!!

Does anyone with contacts know....
what Coach Cal’s advice to Jodie was about staying or leaving? I mean, beyond the GENERAL advice of “If you can be more or less guaranteed a spot in the first round…” that would really apply to ANY player.
It seems like one of our major selling points to recruits/players and their parents is that Coach Cal can give (and WILL be giving) fairly SPECIFIC and DETAILED advice on matters concerning the pros from closer to the “inside” of that game, not just common sense advice. In areas like: (a) a player’s game, and (b) the landscape of the current draft. I know that if I was a parent of a kid in this type of situation I would be SEEKING OUT as much detailed advice from Coal Cal as I could on a decision like this. Is that what happened? Does this mean even Coal Cal thought Jodie’s best business decision was to go this year— and the improvements to his game that would have developed would possibly not have compensated for reduced (more hands in the pie) statistics and a deeper draft next year? That is interesting, if that was ultimately Coach Cal’s advice.
Jodie seems like such a good kid that I join everyone else in hoping nothing but the best for him… good luck, Jodie!

Good luck next season Jodie!
I will always remember THE Tennessee game & the last-second three to beat FL at Rupp.
I grew up near Lexington but I now live in Clearwater, FL and I haven’t missed a single opportunity to remind the so-called “Gator Nation” here about that shot! (and the many more beatings to come)
All of the best to you and your family

Is the roster set?
Set aside the potential for Darnell Dodson to be the outside threat that nobody really saw coming, then who else do we have that can be consistent from the perimeter?
What are the chances Cal can get one more consistent 3-point threat for next season?
Also, since Kentucky is going to be so good next season, why can’t we just draft Jodie Meeks to play for us instead of the Memphis Grizzlies?

Well ...
… we really don’t have any knock-down three-point shooters at all. None of our incoming guards are known as great shooters, none of our wings are really proven (Dodson has the rep, but we’ll have to see).
Both Cousins and Orton have known perimeter skills, but they are hardly likely to shoot much better than 33% from the arc, if that. Hood is an OK three-point shooter, but he really isn’t what you’d want as your first option.
In all reality, we have virtually the same problem next year as last — too little firepower from the perimeter. Zones are likely to play the very devil with us next year.

Our biggest problems with zones last year were two-fold:
1) Can’t shoot from the outside (outside of Meeks)
2) Can’t penetrate and collapse the zone
Given that we have Wall and Bledsoe, we’ll only have one issue with zones next year.
Also, Dodson is rumored to be pretty deadly, but I’d like to see Miller. I think Miller could up his 3-pointer average just a tad, we’ll be in very, very good shape.

Development As A Shooter
Not to reignite the: Are shooters born or made debate but many players develop as shooters with coaching, practice, growth and maturity — true of Meeks in some respect since he went from a 36% to 40% 3-point shooter from his freshman to junior year — so I would look for improvement from Miller and Liggins as freshman, and from newcomers as season progresses.

Unca Gimel is right
Good penetration allows you to run your bigs along the baseline behind the zone for a quick dump off after the zone is broken (Tubby’s team, along with recent UNC teams did this VERY WELL).
So, in this case we don’t have to rely totally on chucking up 3 pointers every trip down. I do believe it will be a problem, but hopefully Kentucky will have the ability to set tempo early in the game, get out in transition and make the game more end to end, rather than possession-based half-court.
I still would not be surprised to see one more addition to the team before Cal calls it a class. He is all too aware that good perimeter shooting is paramount in deep NCAA tourney runs.
I say we may hear something in the next few days.

I just put up ...
