Time for BBN to forgive Vitale?
I'm sure most of us here have read Vitale's take on the Calipari-Memphis-SAT-Rose saga (if not, it's here) where he contends that Calipari is getting unfair treatment by the media. While I know that Dicky V. is a legendary bandwagon jumper and has said some pretty hurtful things towards UK basketball in general- and the fans specifically- in the past, and very well may do it again, I think that articles such as this should prevent us for dismissing him out of hand. We NEED a voice- a BIG voice- to counter the Fordes and Tiptons of the world. Sure, we know they are biased and can't be trusted, but we need a standard bearer to defend our Coach at this time, and he has voluntarily taken up that mantle. Others write negative UK articles because they know they will get hits. Let's show that those who "get it" (ie-Vitale) stand to gain just as much (and more) by supporting us. For all the things he may have said, Vitale has ALWAYS referred to UK as a legendary program and I think that he has hit the nail on the head with this article.

Forgive Vitale? Wouldn't that mean I had to have taken him seriously at some time in the past?
For defense, I would rather have Mike DeCourcey from the Sporting News.

Nothing To Forgive
Although one cannot overvalue the enormous good that Dick Vitale has done for college basketball — possibly more than any single individual — or the sincerity of his compassion for people in general, I still cannot consider myself as one of his great fans. Yet little or none of that has to do with his comments and actions regarding UK. While on balance he has been fair I’m sure there are actions he regrets (when you speak as often and impromptu as Vitale there have to be instances), however I consider none of it to have been done in malice ergo no pardon required.

Perhaps This Will Suffice
memphis wildcat, listen to this John Clay-Mike DeCourcey December 2007 interview and you’ll have your “facts”.

Listening to the interview reminded me why I like him over Vitale.
You also hear why forty does not like DeCourcey. DeCourcey was tough on Tubby’s last years here.

I must agree with forty
Decourcy is a pompous ass…..he is on the radio in Cincinnati all the time, and acts like he knows everything……

Coach K
10 FF, 3 NCAA titles. Career 75% W-L record overall AND in NCAA games.
Averaged 30 W per season in 2000’s.
Apologize for what?

I'd take Tubby over Coach K

Tubby Is The Only UK Coach To Defeat Coach K's Team
But K has the better career W-L record.

I know
Just saying, I think Tubby is the greater game coach. K may be able to out recruit him.

K Is Not The Great Recruiter That Many Think
He was a better recruiter 10 years ago.

Vitale
Ive never disliked him due to his opinions (though he is a bandwagon jumper)
I dislike him because he’s completely annoying and a horrible announcer. I cant stand listening to him call a game.
