Academic Progress Report

I saw this article linked from Aaron’s Blog. Out of curiosity, I looked up the other SEC schools at www.ncaa.org and listed the APR for the basketball teams.

Man, Pelphrey has his work cut out for him. It looks like more than half of the schools finished below the limit of 925. Congrats to the Cats! That’s one thing we need to give the previous staff some credit on.

UK 979
Vandy 975
Florida 950
Georgia 945
LSU 942
Tennessee 924
Ole Miss 923
Alabama 922
Miss St 913
USC 909
Auburn 899
Arkansas 888

Edging...

Vandy, this time barely getting past them is a good thing. Good to see we’re tops in the conference. How pissed is UT, missing it by 1 point.

Those...

charts are extremely confusing, atleast to me. Mind giving numbers for UNC, KU, UCLA, UL, IU, and Duke?

Not bad...

we’re right on par with the best, KU tearing it up. Thanks for that info.

Yeah

I don’t what the scores mean other than they have to get a 925 or higher. I looked up UNC, Duke and UL earlier. UNC and Duke were higher, UL a little lower than UK in the 960s I think.

One More Point To Note

Only the players on the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 rosters “count” toward the APR score.

So the “good” APR score earned by UK is primarily from the Tubby Smith era.

Your...

man love for Tubby is getting kind of embarrassing.

Here's Where The Numbers Come From

The 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 recruiting classes get 6 years to graduate.

4 “points” per player, per year. 2 per semester.

1 if he stays, 1 if eligible to play or graduates. Lose 1 if he leaves. Lose 2 if not eligible when he does.

4 × 13 = 52 points maximum per year. Add up the points earned, divide by 52, multiply that % by 1000 to get APR score.

IN UK’S CASE, the recruits were:

1999 – Bogans, Stone, Estill, Knight
2000 – Parker, Hawkins, Fitch, Daniels, Sears (he counted because he was on scholarship as freshman)
2001 – Hayes, Carruth, Carrier, Chiles
2002 – Azubuike, Barbour, Stockton, Cote

Thanks

So thanks go to Tubby and his staff. I just looked up IU and it is the lowest score I’ve seen so far 868. I was thinking that all the recent transfers had an effect.

Thanks Forty

was trying to figure it out but have not had time. Leads me to a couple of questions:

1) will one and done’s hurt? answer – better make sure they get their degree in6 years, or at the very lease are still eligible when they leave
2) what impact will the coaching turnover have? we lost very few when tubby left, but with Cal short some scholarships, we are going to lose some players -

bottom line is that i have been wondering how the one and dones and having some kids leave will affect the APR……..

I will leave it to UKAA to run the numbers, but i have got to believe it is a concern…..

only one rule in my house - uk has to be your favorite college bball team

1 & Done's Hurt A Little

If they stay OK academically both semesters, you still get 3 out of 4 points available.

Coaching turnover hurts. UK loses 1 (or 2) points for each transfer.
