John Wall Goes to Court Next Friday (29 May 2009)
If you want to keep an eye on John Wall's Breaking & Entering charges a little more closely than you are likely to get via spotty journalists' reports, try going to this link at the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts:
It will give you the charge, the citation number (via which you can obtain the arrest report/charging documents), the court docket number, the courtroom assignment, and the court date. You will also be able to follow any updates there.
North Carolina's courts are open and public under our state constitution, so anyone can attend the hearings and trials that may take place (John is not a minor). For that matter, anyone can also view the entire court file, which I will do the next time I'm in Raleigh.
Do not expect high drama on this first court date, however. It is very likely that as a young man with no record, John will already have received permission from the D.A.'s office to participate in Wake County's Deferred Prosecution Program, pursuant to which he will be assigned certain civic minded penalties (read "community service hours") in exchange for a promise from the D.A.'s office to dismiss the charges upon his successful completion of the agreed-upon activities.

Actually I am spending all my time...
…wondering on who will be booted out of the UK program since nobody else seems to give a rat’s tail. Sad to read all the twisting and turning from everyone to justify this unfair act towards a bunch of kids. Too bad.

Perhaps You Were Napping In The Spring Of 2001 Then
When Pitino ran off Crum recruits to replace them with his own?

Way to show concern for ‘your own’ kids. Nice.

Need Any Help De-Syphering The Louisville Situation?
Glad to help.

HA
good one 40—de-Syphering. That’s great, I’ll have to remember that so I can steal it.
Seriously, though, I really am curious what the the Cardinal avatar’s response is to the claim that 40 makes here, and many others have made in other discussions here; that many coaches, including notably Pitino, have done this very same player-running-off that Calipari is supposedly doing. It’s been brought up time and again, and I’ve never seen it addressed. Granted, I’ll go ahead and say it, “everyone else is doing it” is not the strongest ethical argument, but I do think it bears discussion in this case—or else you risk looking like you’re taking this high-minded moral stance only in this case, because it lets you impugn the integrity of the new coach of your team’s rival. I’m not claiming I’m above this—god knows if the Louisville coach had made way for the #1 recruit, with a minor misdemenor on his record no less, by appearing to show the door to a scrub, I’d probably be bitching and whining too. But at least I will admit my partisan inconsistency : )

I don't like it when anyone does it. Call me persistent.
I also don’t like it when coaches promise high school seniors that they ‘will start’ (i.e., Bledsoe) or prey on their ability not to be able to exactly translate what they may mean.

Yea, you're always so spot on with your extra-special, we inside the loop only know, perspective.
Back in my day we had a label for ‘insiders’….something like ock-jay sniffers.
…and if you need any help deciphering that pig-latin, I would be glad to help.

Scholarships
The rest of the fields of study at UK have minimum requirements to keep one’s scholly, why not the sports programs as well?

John Wall
I am in real estate and have sold a ton of foreclosures. Most Realtors do not mind if people walk into an empty houses and look around. They even invite it because lookers sometimes turn into buyers. John should not even have to go to court on this one. Someone is taking advantage of his popularity.

Regarding Play to Stay
First off, wassup! First time poster, several day reader. Love the site. Good stuff. Its a given that anything a recruiter tells you is 90% bs with 5% snakeoil salesmanesque charm, and maybe, God willing 5% truth to it. As a vet, I was conned like others. That being said, performance begets playing time begets scholarships. Kentucky is, was, will continue to be the upper echeleon of colligate basketball for as long as the fans demand perfection. And demand we do.
To simply cast that scrutinity upon a coach and not on the players as well (players that clearly aren’t the caliber of UK’s expectations) would be a greater injustice. The fact that UK is turning away talent (be it mediocre, good, or effing phenomenal) leaves me wondering if we have retaken the throne as basketball immortals too soon. I would suggest that of the 8 incoming freshman, Alabama and/or Arkansas (Sorry Pelfrey for the season ahead of you) would consider it a banner year to have one of them in their recruiting class.
Tubby Smith was a good coach. He wasn’t a UK coach. Billie G clearly isn’t a good person, his coaching skills being suspect. But still, definitely not a UK coach. Those players to receive scholarships should have to earn it. Cannot muster up? Louisville (cheap dig, I grant you) is right down the road. As UK fans, we demand perfection then championships. Above all else, we demand championships. But with that great scrutinity comes great love and adulation.
Beyond that, and far more outweighing than a petty squabble over the potential integrity involved, these kids are being given the opportunity, for however long they retain their scholarships via performance, allows them a great education and a wealth of opportnities to grow as athletes, scholars, and individuals. That alone, aside from the legacy and the pagentry of playing for the greatest colliegate basketball program should be their focus before assuming the next great chapter of their lives. All the more reason I am so proud of PPat’s decision to return. The NBA will be there. That is a given for someone of his, and Jodie’s talent. However, are you better served in not completing your education first? That argument goes both ways with valid points to be had by all. Just the same, I would encourage education first.
Keep up the great work. I’ll keep reading. Go CATS!

UK Coaching Averages
76% W-L record. 69% in NCAA games.
1 SEC title, 1 SECT championship every 2 years.
1 NCAA title every 10 years.
Why would a UK coach who met those standards deserve “He wasn’t a UK coach” then?

?
Tubby Smith was a good coach. He wasn’t a UK coach.
Wasn’t he the coach for like 10 years?

I Believe He/She Meant
He was UK caliber (or worthy) coach, despite his results meeting or beating UK all-time in most every category EXCEPT Final 4 appearances.

Treated all the same?
Isn’t it funny how if he’s a Wildcat’ he’s done nothing wrong. But it he plays for Tennessee or Louisville, he’s a hardened criminal and shouldn’t be in college sports? Others pee dirty and they’re cheaters, others get arrested and they’re outlaws. I feel for these young men on both sides of the fence. Maybe come from bad situations, broken homes, etc, but let’s look at it in the same light for everyone. They cheat, steal, invade someone’s home, etc. it doesn’t matter where they go to school. They did wrong.
