UK to have 4 first round draft picks next year!!!!
Assuming Meeks returns and from this slip up here it seems likely.
"He seems like a great guy," Meeks says. "I can't wait to play for him." Dramatic pause. "IF I come back." Wink. Wink. Nod. Nod.
SO the 2009 version of the Cats could verywell end up with 4 first round draft picks.
- Wall (lock)
- Patterson (lock)
- Cousins (project by nbadraft.net as a frist rounder)
- Meeks ( is see nothing but improvment if he returns)
How flippin' exciting is that? Has a team ever had 4 first rounders in one season. I admit I'm lazy and don't know where to look to find out.
I remember a time I liked the fact UK did not get one and dones. But now I am truely looking forward to seeing these players wear blue. And I will look foward to watching them on draft day. And I may even start watching the NBA, since I believe coach Cal is now in talks to have it renamed. The NBA of UK has a nice ring to it.

The NBA of UK.
That’s cute.
And yes, I also think it’s exciting to think about four of our players going in the first round of next year’s NBA draft. I’m sure some are stressed out about the possibility and some are not so keen on one-and-done players, but really, for the time being, it does seem important to me that we have a good number of our players make it into the Association being high draft picks, and do well once they get there.
All of today’s top athletes work their asses off from a very young age and for a good number of them the NBA is their dream. If we can prove to those top-tier athletes that UK is a stepping stone of sorts to getting to the NBA and reaching their dream, well, in the long run, I think that that would surely be beneficial to UK in many, many ways.
Who knows, with any luck, maybe the NBA will even replace Jerry West’s likeness on the NBA logo with a lovely image of Coach Cal? : ) — (j/k, of course)
Meeks More Likely 2nd Rounder In 2010
He has better shot at 1st Round in 2009.

2nd that
I want to die while asleep like my grandfather,
not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.
I'm not sure I agree....
He simply can’t be double/triple teamed this coming year and he’ll get a chance to work on his ball handling with the new offense. I think he has a great chance of getting in the first round next year, but almost no chance this year. Latest mock polls I’ve seen have him the MIDDLE of round two at this point. Not even close to the first round. Bottom line: the weaknesses that keep him from being in the first round this year are the things he’ll get to concentrate on this coming year.
Meeks is likely a 2nd rounder next season
This is a pretty weak draft this year and he still can’t get into the 1st round (setting aside a Renaldo Balkman-type act of craziness by some team). There are a number of players (like Wall) who are going to make next year’s draft much deeper and even if Jodie improves greatly he’ll still likely be a 2nd rounder.
There’s nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t affect his standing as a college player or mitigate his accomplishments in any way. Just an acknowledgment that there are other good players out there.
I like important stuff just as much as the next guy, but please, for a little while, deliver us from meaning, baseball. That's your greatest glory, and we thank you for it very, very much. -- Craig Calcaterra
As I said before
A National Championship can have a big effect on that…..scouts know what winners are…..Jodie is more than his stats, and a championship will help prove that
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
I'll Be Surprised If Meeks Is 1st Rounder In 2010 Regardless If NC Or Not
He has a CHANCE this year if he can convince one team to like him well enough.
Jason Maxiell did that in 2005 when Pistons chose him. Everybody else had him in 2nd round (at best).

Just Stating Facts
Pretty clear (to most) that 2009 is a better chance for him to go in the 1st round.

having one n dones is not bad
as long as they get good grades while in school, are limited to 1 every couple of years, and everyone else that plays on scholarship graduates.
the biggest problem with one n dones is the graduation rule that the NCAA put out a few years ago. UK was in the top 10 when the latest report came out last month. if UK can stay in the black in that department then all will be well. otherwise it is scholarship reduction and bad times.
I want to die while asleep like my grandfather,
not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.
Actually it IS bad
but it is necessary….no way to avoid it in today’s game and be competitive….we just have to balance them
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
UNC did it back in 2005
Marvin Williams, Raymond Felton, Sean May, Rashad McCants. All lottery picks.
And then in 07 Florida and Ohio State both had 3 drafted in the first round.
UK Had 3 In 1996
Walker, Delk, and McCarty were all 1st rounders.

Dont Forget
Mercer and Anderson on the 96 team, first rounders the next year, would’ve been first rounders in 96 if they came out.
Mercer Probably
Anderson, not likely. He averaged 9 ppg in 1996.

True About Anderson, But
everyone could see it wasn’t because of talent, there just wasn’t enough points, minutes or touches to go around for a team as loaded as that one was. Luckily for us or should i say as far as we know, everyone on that team stayed cool about the role they played and contributed where they could. Now hopefully the ridiculously LOADED team for this year can do the same and who knows maybe just maybe; fingers crossed here; hang that eighth banner.
The Difference Between 1996 And 2010 Teams
The 96 Cats were experienced AND talented.
The team next year won’t have as much experience.
