Star Recruits Give John Wall the Hard Sell
Now this is cool. Recruits recruiting John Wall hard.
I think Jon Hood did the best, but I am forced to admit a bit of partisanship.

Hood was the only one that didn't use the pitch to talk girls and parties
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Yep
This is the first thing I noticed when I read it.
Miami sure sounds fun. ;)
It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

YES IT DOES!!!!
Oh to be in Mee ahhmeee!!!!
I want to die while asleep like my grandfather,
not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.
I'm beginning to wonder if this guy is worth the trouble
How much stroking does this guy’s ego need? I’m sure he’s everything that people say, but he seems like he’s all about himself. Maybe we’d be better off without him.
You're probably right
But he seems to require an inordinate amount of attention.

No kidding
He’s a point guard, and I’m sure a terrific one, but still just a point guard. Not a demi-god. If he comes, great, if not I won’t cry about it.
Do you know him?
What gives anyone the right to judge his character? He could very well be stroking his ego….or he could be re-evaluating his options as a result of Cal leaving Memphis (his likely choice had he stayed).
Look, I want this to end as quickly as the next UK fan, but he should not have to choose his school ASAP because us blog nerds are growing impatient. Before the internet/information age, would this situation be perceived the same way? I dont think so. I think everyone should just sit back and let it happen. Very little of my energy is invested in Wall’s decision. (Dont get me wrong though, I would still LOVE for him to be a Cat ; )
FYI….chicagoblues, this rant isn’t necessarily directed at you….I just kinda went off for a second.

UK And Late Deciding Recruits
Ron Mercer decided late in 1995. Jamaal Magloire very late in 1996. Patrick Patterson late in 2007.
I like UK’s odds – 3 for 3.

Spot on!
I recall some of the same anxious ego at work saying similar things about P-Pat and now look at all the love we send him when we KNOW him. I aint slammin’ because I did it too :-)
Changing how you think will change what you think.
The only difference is that
Patterson didn’t do back and forth on "I"m cutting my list, oh way, no I’m not, well, maybe next week, no May 20, aw hell, maybe in July I’ll make a decision, no next week. . ."
Like I said elsewhere on here, I don’t fault Wall—he has the basketball world as his fingertips, but unless he really is THAT undecided, he’s just playing with everyone now. That’s his perogative, but I don’t have to like it.
Patterson waited, but he handled it much better, I though. I can’t really remember Mercer or Magloire (before recruiting, etc. was all over the inter-webs).

Admissions deadline
UK’s deadline to apply for incoming freshmen for the fall class was February 15th. All of those thousands of kids who are going to UK to get an education have to make their decisions by then. I don’t know John Wall personally, but I don’t see why he should be any more privileged than all of those other kids, most of whom will actually be paying for their educations.
Well, not just Wall
Cousins and Bledsoe hadn’t made their commitment by February 15.

Hell... last year Gillispie signed Donald Williams in September didn't he?
In retrospect… that should have been our first clue that things weren’t quite right. (Well… maybe not the first clue…)
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Nothing Wrong With That (Williams Added During The Summer)
UK (under Pitino) added players during the summer.
Jason Parker (not Pitino) committed to UK in August 2000.

I wasn't implying that taking a late comer was a negetive
Just that inexplicably giving Williams a scholarship was pointless and short-sighted.

Williams
Actually was considered a pretty good SG prospect. Not great, maybe not UK caliber, but a pretty decent player (sought by others, too).
No one will ever know. He sat out the whole season.

You can apply long after Feb 15th and still get in.
It may be a preferred deadline but it’s not an absolute.
DEEETROIT BASKETBALLL!!!
Everyone does realize that the
only people freaking out about this kid waiting are the fans and the press that keeps writing about it feeding the frenzy dont they?…..The press is eating this up….we are all going ape**** over the kid not committing, and the people who know are just sitting back and milking it for all it is worth. Everyone take a deep breath, relax and kick your feet up…..this will happen when this kid thinks he will get the most mileage out of it.
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
