We all love lists ...
The thread under Monday's "Big Blue Daily Mail" included many contributors listing their favorite UK players of all-time.
I thought it might be fun to compare several different lists, that some UK fans have. I know my friends and I have many times talked about the teams we like to beat the most, or the coach we like to beat the most. Or maybe the college basketball players we dislike the most ...
... or it could be a team or player that we root for, that most UK fans wouldn't be for.
You get the point. Lists. We all love lists. Here are mine:
Favorite non-UK Players -- Mark Aguirre (DePaul), Ted Kitchel (IU), Steve Alford (IU), David Rivers (ND), Wayman Tisdale (Oklahoma), Len Bias (Maryland), Larry Bird (Indiana State), Tim Duncan (WF), Milt Wagner (UL), Dominique Wilkins (Georgia).
Least favorite non-UK players -- Christian Laettner (Duke), Kelly Tripuka (ND), Vincent Yarbrough (UT), Pervis Ellison (UL), Charles Barkley (Auburn -- I do like him now, though), Ricky Blanton (LSU), Michael Graham (G-Town), Joakim Noah (Florida).
Coaches I cherish UK beating -- Roy Williams (UNC), Rick Pitino, (UL), Billy Donovan (FLA), Bruce Pearl (UT), Dale Brown (LSU), Don Devoe (UT), Denny Crum (UL).
Worst coaches ever -- Dale Brown (LSU), Dale Brown (LSU), and Dale Brown (LSU), with a runner-up to Guy Lewis (Houston).
Best coaches ever (non-UK, last 40 years or so) -- Larry Brown (UCLA, Kansas), Bobby Knight (Army, IU, TX Tech), Coach K (Army, Duke), John Thompson (G-Town), Jim Valvano (NC State), Denny Crum (UL), Lou Canessecca (St. Johns).
Most devastating big-game UK losses -- '92 Duke, '86 LSU, '05 Michigan State, and '84 G-Town.
Favorite UK wins -- '98 Title Game, any win over U of L, any win over UNC, any win over Duke, '95 overtime SEC Championship game versus Arkansas, '03 over #1 Florida, '90 over Shaq, Chris Jackson, and Stanley Roberts (LSU).
Best teams -- '90 UNLV, '75 IU, '80 DePaul, '96 UK, '92 Duke, '84 G-Town, '83 Houston.
Discuss if you must.

Most devastating big-game UK losses – ‘97 Championship (I’ll never forget that one.)
Best coaches ever (non-UK, last 40 years or so) – Dean Smith
Favorite UK wins – ’96 Championship

+1
As documented here many times before, I’m a big fan of Izzo. Also like Mike Davis and Stan Heath.
(someone posts the Mike Davis explosion video from YouTube in 3, 2, 1… LOL)

Mike Davis
He applied for UK assistant’s job in 2000. But UK could only offer him $60K (less than 1/2 his salary as IU assistant then) because Larry Ivy was cheap.

most fun technical foul
Mike Davis following the referee up and down the court as the ref said “walk away, walk away, walk away”

Shocking and Disappointing losses
The 92’ Duke game(Shocking), and the 97’ Championship game( Disappointing), I don’t think the Doctors would have cleared Anderson to play if there had been a risk of further re-injury. Please don’t take that in the wrong way. I’m not dogging Mr. Pitino. I’m sure he was only thinking of the best thing for Derek Anderson.

Except Those Are 3 Of The Best
Knight has 902 W, most ever.
Coach K is the best coach of the last 25 years.
Huggins took a dormant program (UC) and restored its luster.

Here's A List That I Like
When Adolph Rupp retired in 1972, he ranked 6th among active coaches in W-L (%) record in NCAA tourney games. Remarkable for a man who started his career in 1930.
When Joe Hall became UK coach in 1972, he wasn’t on the BOTB list for NCAA records. When he retired in 1985, he was 5th among active coaches.
When Rick Pitino became UK in 1989, he wasn’t on the list, either. When he left UK in 1997, he was #1 on that list (active coaches).
When his successor came to UK in 1997, he wasn’t on the list. When he left, he was 8th on that list.
John Calipari ranks 9th on that (BOTB active coaches) list in 2009. He is the first incoming UK coach to be ranked on that list BEFORE he coached at UK.
Just imagine what he’ll do AT UK.

For Those Wondering, "That List" Means Top 10
Eddie Sutton was ranked 23rd on such a list in 1985 and 20th in 1989. Never did hit Top 10 on the list.
