A great man indeed
From the article, his recent Twitter post:
11:10 am 5/8/09: Planted some tomatos yesterday and can’t wait for them to start. I love fresh tomatos.
ROFL. Sounds like something my grandma would post if she were on Twitter.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

UK got a gem of a coach with Brooks.
I am truly going to miss him when he decides to retire. Would be nice if he stayed in Lex for a bit but I don’t see that happening. I see him moving back to Oregon as I am assuming his kids and grands live there.
He sure made his personal mark on the return of UK football.

This guy is cool as a fan
The last statement about what UK will lose when he decides to retire was dead on. He is class personified.
Coach Brooks will get Mitch a lot of mileage by himself. Best hire hands down. I know Calipari is the sexy pick right now but I gotta go with Brooks. Comes in knowing he’s gonna take a lot of crap from folks, gets vilified by local press and “fans”, hangs some bowl wins in the tropy case and doesn’t once say “nyah nyah…”
I want to die while asleep like my grandfather,
not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.

Barnhart's best hire
Barnhart’s best hire was ex-UK baseball coach John Cohen, in my opinion. Brooks was a very good hire, but he was essentially Barnhart’s fourth or fifth option behind Bill Parcells, Norm Chow, David Cutcliffe, Mike kruczek, and Jim Donnan. I’m not sure how many of these coaches withdrew their names from consideration once it became apparent Barnhart would hire Brooks, but I think even Rich Brooks would admit he wasn’t the first (or second) choice. Still, he was a very good hire.

I would agree, except for the Calipari hire.
Brooks is the best thing to happen to UK football since Jerry Claiborne retired (that’s meant as a complement to coach Claiborne).
There have been many, many coaches who enjoyed Hall of Fame success at schools, after being the second or third choice.
I love Brooks, but, Norm Chow coming to UK would have been very, very interesting …

Tru,
I waited until we received Sunday night’s newspaper before I posted the Fanshot. I hoped you would link this story. It wasn’t linked there, so I posted it then. Sorry, I didn’t want to post before you did. I just wanted to share it with ASoB.

Don't apologize ...
… about linking something. Link away. It makes no difference to me who finds the good stuff. I don’t have time to pay attention to the blog stuff all day, and I really appreciate it when people like you keep our members updated when I am, you know, trying to do less important stuff like earn a living. :-)
No apology necessary, and in fact, I want to thank you, Wild Weasel and all the others who constantly link things to keep our members informed. Never worry about stepping on me, I could care less. Jump in there and talk about it.
