Question from 'Bama
Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me intruding on your blog with some questions. I am planning on coming to Lexington for the UA/UK Football game the first weekend in October. I'm planning to have been to all 12 SEC Stadiums within the next 4 years or so (and hopefully the host site of all the BCS games, but thats asking a bit much). Anyways, my wife is wanting to use this as a vacation, and I was wondering if there were any places to stay over towards the Daniel Boone Forest, i.e. a secluded cabin, but close enough where we could go into town for a nice bite to eat or whatever. And also any attractions that we need to see would be much appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time for all your help

One Suggestion
I would recommend the lodge at Natural Bridge State Park. It’s rustic and the hike up to the bridge, which is a stone formation, is awesome. Don’t know how far away you want to get but this place is very scenic. Check out the KY State Parks website.
I was think Natural Bridge as well
Its close to the gorge too. Its about 45 min east of lex.
DEEETROIT BASKETBALLL!!!
I agree
The Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge area is incredible.
Also the KY Bourbon Trail…..if you like bourbon. I think you will miss Kennland’s fall meet at that time, but the KY Horse Park is another great place to go.

Horsepark is a good one
I worked in the draft barn there for a little bit. The horse park is very cool.

Check out www.nbcabins.com for cabin rentals, they’re really great.

might want to check out....
1732 Richmond Rd here in Lexington….
Rumor has it that a famous person lives there…. ;-)

There are several options in the area..
Quite a bit of that type thing around Somerset and London. The Cumberland Falls area doesn’t take a backseat to anywhere as far as natural beauty. And if you happen visit the falls on a clear night with a full moon, you just might get to the only “moonbow” in the world.
The lodge
there is nice. They have 1 suite, or let me say, they used too,I know….I would opt for any of the state parks. Keep in mind that October in KY is our peak season for viewing the gorgeous colors of the mountains. I would decide soon, if I were you and make reservations. And, depending on what you would like to do here in KY, there are also a lot of options in the Mammoth Cave Area.

We have lots of places
down here in Somerset, London, Corbin areas….Cumberland Falls has its own Lodge…and with a little luck you are less than 2 hrs from your seat at the stadium….
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
State Parks in Kentucky
I think most of the lodges at the state parks in KY have restaurants and from my experiences the food is always good. I think much better than many franchise places to eat.
Natural Bridge
I would highly recommend the Natural Bridge Resort Park (KY State Park). As an easy side trip, the Red River Gorge Geological Area is right next door.
Lots of trails, from so easy my grandmother can do it to ones that need technical gear. Many sandstone arches, See Sky Bridge and Rock Bridge. Great in the Fall. It is also a very short and easy drive (about 50 minutes via the 4 lane Mountain Parkway) to Lexington.
Hope everything about your stay (except the outcome of the football game of course…Go CATS!) is enjoyable!
All depends on what you are into and what you want to spend.

Either of these will give you some good ideas. The Horse Park IS a really nice place with more breeds of horses than you could imagine. Look up the dates on the trip planner to see if anything special is going on.
LCVB site has great links and resources to many cool places. If you like the “brown spirit water from the Gods” then basing in Lex and fanning out to the bourbon trail sites could be cool.
Changing how you think will change what you think.
Wow you guys are AWESOME
I’ve been researching the Natural Bridge area. I’ve stayed near Mammouth Cave before, its very nice. I’ll try to drop back by here closer to game time to get some updated tips on what to do/ where to eat/ so forth. If you guys want to come to T-town to punish us in basketball, just let me know, I’ll turn you on to all that Tuscaloosa has to offer!

In all seriousness
All the places mentioned here are great. And a couple places I go to before games:

I think we are actually easy to get along with….lol
And thanks for the compliment too… have fun and enjoy yourself here, that is all we ask…

Although this isn’t on the east side of Lexington, I’d recommend looking at Shaker Village in Harrodsburg. Very nice, very rustic, lots of history and great food.
You also might consider Boone Tavern in Berea (I think they have rooms – I could be mistaken on this). Very nice area as well
yes they do.....
and are just finishing up a nice remodel or restoration, I should say….

Another great option along those lines (and one of the better restaurants in the state, in my opinion)
is the Holly Hill Inn in Midway, KY (15 minute drive from Lexington).

Shaker Village is awesome as well

I was so focused on the DBoone Nat Forest I neglected to consider the Shaker Village. Very interesting, extremely laid back, very quaint. Wonderful food!
Eats
DeSha’s and JB’s are okay, but if your wife would prefer a more upscale, date place for dinner, I suggest one of the following.
