Oklahoma athlete trys to pay back scholorship funds
This young lady shows what it means to value an education and a community. Good for OU to convince her to spend her money elsewhere. I'm sure the run to the Final Four was payment enough. :)
What I find interesting is her salary as a 7th pick. Is there that much of a disparity in interest for women's basktball vs men's? Does this disparity make her financial gesture even more noble?

There is a HUGE disparity between NBA and WNBA salaries.
I was surpised to see that a lottery pick only made $41K though. After some quick research, it appears the MAX salary for next season in the WNBA will be $99K under the collective bargaining agreement. There is potential for various bonuses, but at best a player could tack on an additional $20K or so.

Scroll down, and you’ll see that team salary caps are at or under the average NBA player’s salary.
I suppose the best of the best of making very good money from endorsements, but based on the lack of national support for the WNBA, I would bet that most players never clear $100K when it’s all said and done.

thanks for the link
it is good to see that increases are shown. gotta endorse these women better. not as many scandalous “stories” about them and when in school quite often outperform their male counterparts in the classroom.

Average WNBA Salary Is Under $50K (Much Less $100K)
But they get car, food allowance, and apartment paid over 5 months season.
Natalie made $100K or so in her last few years in the WNBA. She was one of the Top 5 ot 10 salaries.
Chamique Holdsclaw, Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, and Diana Taurasi made $500K and up with endorsements.

Nat Made Better $ In ABL Or Playing Winter Ball In Russia
She made $175K on Portland Power in late 1990’s. She made over $100K for 2 months playing in Russia in mid 2000’s.

Was that because of more support (i.e. attendance) by Russian citizens (fans)?
Hence more sponsor support.
I know the game is popular internationally but I’ve only read stuff concerning male leagues overseas. Are the women’s games better attended overseas than in the US?

Yes
Her team owner was Russian Mafia guy.
The women can make 2X to 3X more $ overseas.

You must be very proud
Of Nat and all her accomplishments, as I am sure her Mom and Dad are. Enjoy the grands. They are so much fun!

Invisible Hand
Adam Smith’s invisible hand of the marketplace is alive and well in professional basketball…at least until the government becomes involved (See Lilly Ledbetter Act).

Kudos to Paris
Reminds me of a few years ago when Bob Knight paid back his salary to TT after a season he perceived to be poor.
