Fake email going around
Marc Maggard is reporting on some kind of fake email being sent to some in the Big Blue Nation. I personally have not received it, nor has anyone forwarded or reported it to me, so it may be something that is narrowly focused.
Nonetheless, please do read Marc's comments. Stuff like this is how rumors are started, and I hate rumors.

I love...
… finding out things are fake after never having realized there was such a thing to begin with.
Well, I guess since I didn’t understand the explanation, I’ll just assume I never understood the event.
My only question now is, though, are we still getting this South American point guard or not?

Must be ...
… a new rumor.
I have now seen the email. It’s what you would expect. It looks just like the Gillispie whoring/drinking/coed-bedding emails of last year. It cites a known Louisville UK booster for credibility.
There is nothing new under the sun. When UK plays bad, these damn things crawl out of the pond scum and into your email account.

Maggard Predicted UK Would Sign South American PG Recruit Last Year
It was false then. It is false now.
I’m not a Maggard fan.

Things aren't always as they seem.
My brother provided Marc with that piece of information. It was very closely tied to the also very controversial Samardo Samuels situation. In a very broad nutshell, there was a person that was considered for hire here at UK that thought he could bring Samardo Samuels along with him. Soon after that Louisville kind of went over his head and pulled out it out. It was very similar to what happened when Liggins suddenly chose UK over Memphis and Kansas.
I don’t want to get into names and that sort of thing, but I would like to recommend not being too hard on people who give out this recruiting information. It is an extremely volatile business, and it is difficult to get it right 100% of the time. All things considered, I think Marc Maggard’s information has been very accurate.
I realize Marc has offended people for other reasons, and I have no problem with someone being angry about that. Just call a spade a spade though. You don’t dislike him because of his information.

I Don't Know Him Otherwise
His information is often unreliable. That’s all I know of him.
Credit to Gillispie for playing the recruiting game. Self, Pitino, Williams, Calhoun (et al) play it.

I will try not to be rude with this...
It is just that the majority of people that think Maggard’s information is unreliable think so out of ignorance. I’m not saying you need to familiarize yourself with the things he says if it doesn’t interest you, or if you dislike him. I do think it would be wise for you to stop commenting on it until you do, though.

To Be Polite, I Couldn't Care Less What You Think Is Wise 4 Me
I haven’t liked Maggard since he created the NCAA (minor) incident involving Josh Carrier in summer of 2000.

Exactly
It has nothing to do with his information, and that is what I was getting at.

His Information Is Unreliable, Too
MM plus 50 cents gets you 2 quarters change.
by FortyYearCatFan on Mar 11, 2009 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Again
You are ignorant to his information, or you wouldn’t make that claim. If MM’s information is spotty, the rest of the guys that do what he does must be extremely difficult for you to read.
Ohh, and I asked MM about the Carrier NCAA “incident”, and he has absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
by #3 on Mar 12, 2009 1:12 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oh, Yes HE DOES!
Tubby was watching Josh Carrier shoot around in Bowling Green in summer of 2000 while UK was recruiting him.
Carrier approached Tubby to talk to him but it was a period where coaches could observe but not contact recruits. It was a “bump” when Tubby told him that he couldn’t talk to him.
Maggard reported it publicly and UK had to report it as minor NCAA violation.
More proof that MM is what I say he is, NOT what you say he is!
by FortyYearCatFan on Mar 12, 2009 6:22 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
What was inaccurate about that?
Those bumps happen all the time. They get reported a lot too.
by #3 on Mar 12, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
that is retarded...LOL
Coaches are allowed to tell a player that they can’t talk to them….hahaha….that happens every day on the recruiting trail. The NCAA allows “reasonable” remarks to a player during these situations…..haha…to think you’ve been stewing for nearly a decade over something so dumb…..mm
by Marc Maggard on Mar 12, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
What lie are you trying to tell?
I don’t mind that you don’t like me, nor do I care if you “believe” any information I share…… but at least have the decency to not make up lies. I have never been involved in ANY NCAA incident in well over a decade of working in basketball recruiting. To make that claim is ignorant at best and makes you a liar at worse. Please give details about what you are trying to claim happened….. MM

See Above
You reported that Tubby “bumped” Josh Carrier while observing him in a shootaround during a non-contact period.
ABSOLUTELY!
by FortyYearCatFan on Mar 12, 2009 6:23 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Are you serious?
Bumps are NOT ILLEGAL during a shoot around…. LOL. A coach can greet a player and say hello during a non contact period. You have no idea what you are talking about. “reasonable” remarks are legal and standard practice.
wow. to think you’ve been harboring these ridiculous opinons for nearly a decade….haha

Silly
Another person I know that reads these comments on a fairly regular basis just informed me FortyYearCatFan writes angry posts in ignorance on a fairly regular basis. I was told to just ignore him, and I suppose I’ll do my best to do that in the future.

Its kind of like saying, "You'll never believe what just happened... but I can't tell you."
The little rumor mongering old lady part of my personality is dieing to get this email now!
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

The first time I read your comment
I thought it read “…is dieting to get this email now!”
I’m curious as to what that would look like.
I like important stuff just as much as the next guy, but please, for a little while, deliver us from meaning, baseball. That's your greatest glory, and we thank you for it very, very much. -- Craig Calcaterra

Genuine LOL...
that’s exactly what I thought I read, J.
Then I thought, I wish I was as motivated to get into shape as chirop is; all it takes is a fake e-mail!?
by mrmondaynite on Mar 9, 2009 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know
It’s a sort of scaled-back hunger strike. Here is what I imagined went down.
Chriop: “I’m going on a hunger strike until I get that email”
JLeverenz: “Wow, that’s some dedicated rumormongering. How about water with lemon rinds soaked in it, is that okay? No calories, mind you, just to add some flavor.”
Chirop: “Well, it’s not really a hunger strike, more of a diet strike.”
JLeverenz: “huh?”
Chirop: “Well, I get all the brown rice and vegetables I want, and a burger once a week, but none of those Jamocha Shakes they have at Arby’s, they’re done.”
JLeverenz: “Hmm, ok”

Read It
Read the email earlier today on Rupp’s Rafters and it was deleted shortly thereafter. My initial reaction was one of skepticism due to some of the rather preposterous claims but the use of names with which I’m familiar, especially Mr. Isaacs, lent an air of credibility. Eventually I passed it by as just so much Internet blather. In a larger context this proves a few things: the power of the Internet in its various iterations, the exceedingly high interest in UK BB by its rabid fans, the seemingly irresistible urge for persons to intimate they have inside information, and, most important, how we should be incredulous of the statements that a poster/emailer has certain knowledge of a situation. The Internet has extended the aphorism: Believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see, to perhaps believe nothing without a sworn affidavit; if then

Excellent.
I completely agree with all that. If only more people would take this view.

Banky: Stop the movie? What are you, crazy?
Jay: All these assholes on the Internet are calling us names because of this stupid fucking movie.
Banky: That’s what the Internet is for. Slandering others anonymously.

I believe in block scheduling
I’ll see a chunk of patients and then have a gap before the next chunk. Allows me to get paperwork and other essentials (like posting random quotes from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on Kentucky blogs) finished in a timely and efficient manner.

The email
I hope I never have the chance to read it. But if i do, I will reply to all and direct them to this post.

I got sent this email over 50 times in the past 3 days.....
I’ve never has nearly the amount of requests for comment as I got on this email. When I spoke to the named parties, they had been getting calls non stop for days. It was in the interest of all parties and UK fans in general to let everyone know it was not valid information.
As for the SA Point Guard…. ask Jared Bonshire. He’s the one who ran that story to death trying to get Kyink an internet name….lol

Joshin...
I was mostly just kidding. I went so far as to ask my contacts in the NBA draft world about it. He literally laughed at me.
