The right qualities

We love the Cats.  We love our history.  We are excited by each new season.  We love the game.   We, are the UK fans.   We have survived a most dismal season, but, we will return next year, alas, with a new coach.  The search has started and the speculation and internet mayhem have set in motion our fan opinions.  Strong feelings are already soaring from poster to poster.

Most say we need a top tier coach for a program of such stature.   Most think any coach in the country would die to coach at Kentucky.   But, the fact of the matter is this.  Most other coaches,  while respecting our history, don't think Lexington is the heaven of the basketball world.   Most would tell you that the scrutiny of the position is just not worth it. It is important to note that these coaches are not from Kentucky.

While an accomplished coaching resume would be preferable, it may not be realistic.  If one is jto udge success at Kentucky, related to success before Kentucky, then Eddie Sutton was one of our best selections.  We all know that is not the case.

Perhaps our search should focus on the intangibles, more than the record.  What is the style of play?  This is critical to fans.  The ability to motivate.  The love of Kentucky.  What we have is special.  It may not be all that special to the rest of the basketball world, but we know better.

I hope the next coach not only knows how to fast break and press, I hope he already knows the words to "My old Kentucky Home"
