Open Thread Continuation: Coach Watch

Btn_chat_medium
Wow, what a crazy day.  Is Gillispie in, or is he out?  I'm getting dizzy just trying to keep up with all the drama.

I'm sure that Tru or Ken will post some real news as soon as they have it.

In the meantime, use this thread to discuss our current Coach-watch.

[UPDATE 7:52AM by Truzenzuzex]  There is nothing new to report.  WHAS is standing by their report that Gillispie is gone, but the UK SID is saying that he has not been fired and no meetings have happened.

I don't even know why I'm going to work tomorrow...

And you know that TCP and ASOB are the only fan sites that are going to be running properly tomorrow. I really hope there is some sort of closure before the weekend.

I can see a lot of people not doing work

I believe that http://www.kentuckyink.com/ will be working just fine also.

On ESPN ticker...

Andy Katz’ sources say Gillispie’s future to be decided Friday.

Maybe they’ll just release a statement.

LHL Article Thursday 11:48 P.M. EST

Interesting LHL Tipton article. Covers Billy G’s talk show. Billy claims he has not heard
from Todd or Barnhart. Billy will keep “working” until he has been told different. Article does indicate that UK will make an announcement on Friday about the Men’s Basketball Coach position.

by blue oregon on Mar 27, 2009 2:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Why would he stay?

It’s been said a few times in many of the posts that I’ve read over the past week but- Even if offered the position I’m confused as to why he would stay. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a HUGE mistake for UK to get rid of him. No man should get fired (or whatever they’re going to call it) after two years, he needs next year to prove himself. I’m just not sure with all of the speculation that’s going on, not only in the Commonwealth, but nationally also, what kind of situation he would be getting himself into if he stayed. He certainly doesn’t seem to be the kind of man to grovel and apologize to the BBN for the past year and explain himself- though I feel this is exactly what the BBN wants and some may even need of him to accept him. And with all the national media (espn, and yahoo to name two) saying that he’s most likely gone (columns I know, but nonetheless…) I just don’t understand now how the University and Coach could turn around and send out a big “F you” to everyone by keeping him, which is what it would seem it would be right now. This has been one giant administrative fustercluck if I’ve ever seen one, and I’m normally the one infuriated by the coaches who inevitably say “i’m staying, I’m not leaving” and then haul a** out the door the next day. I think this is the exact opposite of that. I’m just not sure I can see BCG staying around regardless whether or not the University actually terminated the contract… And as everyone else has been saying- they better have a HUGE, I’m talking ASTRONOMICAL name (like a certain neighbour down I-64 for example…) locked down, otherwise this is just going to get ugly- not to say it isn’t already. It’s already been hard enough for me to wear all my blue down here in Miami. I’m afraid it’s only going to get harder…

Here’s to a Final Four run in 2010 (downs some 7 year Beam- don’t forget the bottles currently say that the seven years represent each of UKs national titles. I’d sure like for them to have to adjust their aging times…)

Give me a tin roof, front porch and a gravel road. Go Cats and Go 'Canes!

by Kentucky 'Cane on Mar 27, 2009 3:31 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agree, fustercluck, agree again why stay?

Would also like to have seen an additional year for Billy … but after all of this media circus – there’s no trust between the two sides. LHL reporting assistant coach cleaning out his office at the Craft Center, WHAS says Billy OUT then says no news conference … come on this is just media SPIN – we know he’s gone. It’s sad for UK bball … but “this too shall pass” … I’ll always be a fan, even if they get the Pope to coach the team – seems like a lot of folks could use some religion today…

by ukcris on Mar 27, 2009 6:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pat Forde from ESPN wrote an article about the situation and I think....

… he brought up a good point. It has now gotten to the point where even if he isn’t fired at the end of this year, things might have already reached the point of no return. I can’t believe how badly Barnhart dropped the ball on this one.

by Clay Mason on Mar 27, 2009 5:02 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree...

it feels very awkward right now. If he isn’t fired it will be extremely awkward, with an entire off season to have to answer questions about it. If you ask me its time for Barnhart to be on the hot seat. The last coaching search wasn’t handled well and this situation has been a nightmare. Whether you are a BG fan or not, Barnhart screwed up either by hiring or by firing, assuming thats what will happen today. He needs to make one hell of a hire for me to continue to support him as our AD.

by the spork on Mar 27, 2009 5:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll Say it Again

If Gillispie is out, after this bumbling, Barnhart and Todd should follow him. Please, if I wanted staged drama, I’d watch Survivor.

What is this program called? Who wants to be an Unemployed Millionaire? Coach Swap? It’s embarrasing.

If it is a mistake, then some WHAS reporter should be required to interview BCG every halftime for the whole of next year and start the interview with “Coach, you are not fired like I reported you were last March but what do you have to do to get going in the second half?” To which coach could reply “That question is even worse than your journalism skills.”

by LyricSmith on Mar 27, 2009 5:55 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yes, Mitch should follow him..

but I’m not so sure about arguing to fire the university president because of basketball matters. Now, if Lee Todd drops the ball on the top 20 initiative, he’s as good as gone. No matter how much the state govt cuts UK’s funding.

by ben-p on Mar 27, 2009 8:56 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You Are Most Likely Right

Still, I feel this ordeal extends beyond athletics and reflects on the whole university. And Mr Todd has been there the whole time.

However, I realize that basketball is not the complete university. And, there is of course the possibility that Barnhart and Todd know something significant that I do not . Forgive my rantings but wow! Tthe handling of this crisis had been bad by any standard.

what if...

this whole thing is really up in the air due to the fans and the media?! The Administration has been consistent that they will sit down after the season and discuss the program, BCG has stated he doesn’t know anything and wants to be here next year. Aren’t both on the same page?! Do adjustments need to be made? Absolutely, but does anyone believe that BCG doesn’t realize that and that he won’t make the changes?

Im not sold as Donovan as the right guy

I have followed UK basketball all my life, my dad is from kentucky and is the biggest big blue fan i know. I know you guys feel donovan could bring UK back to the glory days but im not so sure. Don’t get me wrong hes a good coach and he knows the game but are you sure he’s the answer? Sure he won 2 NC’s at UF but he did that with two extremely heavy veteran teams and what has he done since?? Its easy to win when you have amazing talent….im not saying he isnt the answer but i have my questions….

‘When you build a house and you make it hurricane-proof by putting certain kinds of windows in it, and use cement instead of stick construction and all that kind of stuff, you’re getting prepared for what? A hurricane that may or may never every come." ’We’re going to have 12 hurricanes next year, we know they’re coming.’

Of Billy D..Good coach, good recruiter, but i would love to have a coach that wants to be a UK for many, many years, and for one reason or another i think (just my opinion) is that Billy D would always have one eye one the NBA>

Fire Mitch,not BCG!!!

by KYCATS77 on Mar 27, 2009 8:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sure that he does

He dabbled his toes in the NBA waters and got out quick in Orlando. I don’t think he’s looking to the NBA anymore.

I don’t know that Donovan is what I want, but if we bungle this deal with Gillispie as bad as it appears we’re going to… we need a media darling like Donovan. If we don’t have someone bulletproof like him, the media will crucify us in the coming years.

I also don’t know that I want someone here for “many, many years” as you say. I think ten years is about as long as a coach should stay.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

by chirop1 on Mar 27, 2009 8:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Depends

I agree we need a media darling if BCG is gone(hope he is not) Billy d is still young and just seems like the type that would hang a banner in Rupp and seek a different challenge.be that in the NBA or elsewhere.

If you get the right coach and they are on top of college BBall(like UK should be) and after ten years they are not old and washed up why not have a career coach?

Also

Donovan still has 3 years before he could coach in the NBA (reportedly). The reported terms of Orlando letting him out of his K there were that he not coach in the NBA for 5 years – it’s been 2 now.

The first championship featured four sophomores as the focus…

before his NC runs with 2 magical teams…Billy D was on the way out at Florida…he has consistently underachieved at UF and simply is not the guy…to go to two NIT’s after winning the title…unacceptable…

More rumors

Found a fascinating read at another site, and this could posibly happen.More or less, a “mutual separation” has been reached between UK and BG(he was not fired, nor does he resign). This happens today.Anthony Grant will remove his name from the Alabama job.If this happens,Billy Donovan will be named the next UK head coach,Grant will go to UF.One thing that makes this plauisble is that BD and AG have the same agent,Lonnie Cooper.I think this scenario will play out.

Musical chairs..

How about Donovan to UK, Grant to FL and Gillespie to Alabama? Then he’d get at least one shot per year at payback.

Whatever Happens

My school has managed to become the true Notre Dame of college basketball.

Dr. Todd isn’t the president of the school for sports so calls for him to step down or be fired are incredibly stupid. Dr. Todd has done a whole lot of good and surprised most with his leadership in many other arenas.

Mitch Barnhardt, on the other hand, has set this up as a debacle. He doesn’t deserve to be dismissed because of it but there is a huge hole to climb out of now.

they know he’s gone, but they don’t know who’s coming in. The rumor mill that wants him gone has already moved on to national speculation on who’s next.

I would bet that they don’t necessarily want to make an expensive move (buyout or litigation over the buyout) without knowing who’s next. Seems like an awful risky move for Mitch/Todd to fire Billy G, get turned downed by a handful of coaches, and end up with a rushed hire. Maybe he’s learned from his mistakes?

if he stays, it’ll be because Billy D, Calipari, Pitino, and Jay Wright said no …

But Gillispie also acknowledged his steely side.

Just an opinion ....

But I think the reason for no press conference is that the athelstics dept. is in secret talks with the “home run” coaches and they want to make sure they have one locked up before they fire bg. They want to make sure they get it right so their heads aren’t on the chopping block which explains why bg has no idea what’s going on. Very shady but makes sense to me. I’m at work painting so I have a lot of time to think….too much maybe.

I’m betting you’ll pull out a cell phone just like the rest of us. That’s right… even in the backwoods of Kentucky, everyone has a cell phone. And I’m also willing to bet that your cell phone has a camera built in like 99% of all phones on the market today.

If Gillispie were pulling half the stunts that rumors like yours would suggest, he’d be all over the internet.

Behold… Larry Eustachy

If Gillispie were out carousing and getting plastered in public, we’d know.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

It would just make more since to me f that are firing a coach after 2 years even with his losses that there HAS to be stuff going on off the court for them to make such a decision.

No problem.

If he has offenses that are considered termination worthy, then he should be gone. Unfortunately, having friends that are ladies does not qualify in my book. I also have heard no official report of DUI.

I just think we need to be careful of rumors and judgments without the facts. I’ve heard a lot but I hope not everything that people hear about me they believe without proof. I think BCG deserves the same treatment.

I don't disagree

Its a fact that the man has been surly with the media. Its also a fact that he has blown off commitments with prominent boosters. Its also a fact that he admits to being less than comfortable in his role as an ambassador for the school.

Its also a fact that he has had two sub-par years by Kentucky standards.

If he were winning… we’d ignore all the problems in the first paragraph. If he were everything we wanted in a coach and only having mediocre success… we’d ignore the second point. His problem is that the two are dove-tailing into a perfect storm of sorts.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Are they really talking or thinking about firing BCG because of the Rotary club or the “Brush up” with Edwards….i think not,but in his defense the first brush up was a really bad question,he could have handled it differently, but,he was correct.IMO the second brush up was BG’s attempt at a joke, all he said the 2nd time was that edwards knew more about it than he did…Maybe G just doesn’t have a very good sense of humor. It that a fireable offense?

I disagree that Billy D is the popular choice

If the fan base is divided on if Billy G should be fired or stay that means a full half of th fan base want Billy G (me included). I doubt such an agreement with the other half on who they prefer. So it seems to me the popular choice is Billy G.

true or false

I have a little UK basketball news that you can share with any of your UK buddies at work… Billy Gillispie has been fired. He and the other assistant coaches told the team goodbye in the locker room after the game. The players were then told by Mitch Barnhart and Lee Todd (the athletics director and president of the university) how to answer reporters after the game. (Denying any knowledge of the firing, etc) A formal press conference will be scheduled for Friday to make the official announcement to the public. Gillispie left the game last night on a flight and the team traveled back to Lexington on a bus.

As of last night, the only names being mentioned for the replacement are Billy Donovan and Travis Ford. Lee Todd says he will not hire John Calapari under any circumstances. It seems as if President Todd has a little more say than Mitch Barnhart as far as the hiring this time. If I hear anything else, I’ll let you know.

how would BBN react if the press conference is, “BCG is our coach, changes need to be made to get us back to where UK Basketball needs to be, but he has our full support and we believe that he is the guy to get us there…”

my only caveat on that is does BCG really want to be here? It Time to "Grow-Up"

To tell the truth, I feel sorry for Coach G and the players. It’s always been said that not only does the tradition of Kentucky basketball make UK a great school to coach and play at, but “the rabid fans” are the “greatest”. That is until you have a bad season and the “fans” stab you and your team in the back and start booing you on their OWN home court! Yeah, “greatest”, whatever. I’m a lifelong resident of Kentucky (38 years), and quite frankly sometimes it makes me ashamed to be associated with what has become associated with UK basketball fandom. Think about how hard all of this must be on the players. They’re just kids. If many of them come away from this debacle thinking Kentucky Basketball “stinks”, can you really blame them? I think it’s time for much of the UK fan base to “grow-up” and have a little more patients in the program.

This is Not the End, the Cycle will Continue.

Don’t get me wrong, I want to win Bball games as much as the next guy, but at what cost? Do we just throw away coaches and players without any regard for the human being? Do we just step on them and move on to the next set of UK Fan victims? We may “love” new Coach So-and-So if Coach G is replaced, but next year (and the year after that) UK fans will hate his guts if he’s not able to work miracles and wave a magic wand and turn the UK Basketball program around in the amount of time THE FANS want it to be.

Billy G

3 comments to make……
1st to everyone who wants to fire Mitch Barnhardt: Didn’t you cry for his dismissal when the football program was down? How has his choice of coach turned out for that program?

2nd….If Billy G is let go it will be another 2-3 years of building before we see direct results from this new coach

3rd….When Billy said he only had 1 person that would judge him and all assumed he was talking about Mitch B, guess again. The only person to judge someone is the Lord above. That is who Billy G was talking about

1 person to judge

I think everyone understood Billy G’s reference…but “The Lord Above”… now is the time he picks to be a religious man?
seems that he’s just trying to get some of the bible belters on his side

Billy G is a flawed man and that’s fine – we are ALL gossips or else we wouldn’t be here…but his pride and arrogance have possibly cost him his Golden Ticket

The antics he has been accused of should land him in the bush leagues
but… I don’t buy the Billy G is able to handle this. Joe Crawford said everyday that BCG would say “I hate you”… that kind of talk has no business at UK…

UK should have a teflon coach….one above reproach and respected universally. No one will call for Coach K’s resignation after his past few “sub par” years… No one called for Roy William’s ousting when we were all shouting “Rock Choke Jayhawk”

Not crying to fire Mitch

But if UK goes on to fire a coach after only 2 years, then a serious evaluation is in order for whoever hired said coach. If he’s not the coach for UK now (in their opinion), then he wasn’t 2 years ago either.

evaluating mitch

I’m sure he has evaluated this to death
basically people know that Billy D was waffling, Wright, Few and Barnes said no… didn’t hear about Izzo…but they ran to someone who wouldn’t embarass them again – someone who would have been stupid to say NO
they got “their main” the “yes man” who isn’t a good fit

I believe all those people that say there is INTERNAL turmoil and Dr T and MB are not going to air the dirty laundry of the Athletic Department… UK shouldn’t have to – although MB should at least admit that there were some internal problems concerning underage coeds, a return of Eddie Sutton’s driving habits, or something of the likes…. SOMETHING near insubordination took place – maybe the signing of some players that would not have fit MB’s mold??? KT? KG? DL?

Trust me when I

say my source is very connected down here to UF and Donovan. He has confirmed to me that what Dick Gabriel said about Donovan coming to UK two years ago was correct but was shot down by his wife. Donovan had even told my source he was going to UK. Remember Donovan had just won TWO Championships in a row and his wife figured he should stay in Florida because she wasn’t going to move from Florida. Thus the Magic job. Donovan loves the college game though and went back to UF before it was to late. I am not a fast typer so bare with me. By the way I don’t give a crap who believes this. Billy D

IF this is a done deal, just be certain that Billy D is not going to be announced until the CONTRACT IS SIGNED so this whole disappearing bit could be Dr. Todd, MB, and BD all in negotiations…plus UFAD would be working the VCU→Bama→UF angle simultaneously

Billy D hasn’t had NCAA worthy teams since he lost 5 players to the pros… look at what some of those players are up to…he has a talent vacuum right now. If he comes to UK, believe that he may try to rescind Villarino but Hood and Orton will come plus at least a couple of his own recruits! And the next recruiting class will be markedly different.

Billy D will be off to a running start withOUT Calathes and I don’t think he really cares. I don’t want that punk anyway…but 2 years ago he said “I’ll follow Coach D wherever”…

BG will come out of this fine and he will succeed in the basketball profession. The UK program had to be silent about all things concerning BG since his remarks at the SEC tournament. organization. I doubt very much that they have left BG not knowing exactly what is going on. He probably new two weeks ago. We are Kentucky, we will be lambasted by many regardless of what happens next. But what I am hearing it is the best possible scenario for everybody and I believe UK has done everything with class in this whole affair. They can’t and they won’t and shouldn’t be giving us day to day public updates on very dilicate situations like what is going on. I read somewhere he's been given 5 days

But whether the 5-days is true or not, if Alabama is left hanging at the end of the day today, it is strong evidence something is up with Donovan.

Overachieved

While we’re waiting for the announcement that may or may not come, here is a basketball thought, or two, or three:

After viewing last night’s games and measuring the athleticism and basketball abilities of those players as compared to those of UK — especially on the perimeter — what ever doubt that remained in my mind that the 22 victories accumulated by Cats this season was without question a considerable overachievement was erased. With the exception of Patterson and Meeks — even those two wouldn’t be stars — not one player on UK’s roster could make the starting lineup for Nova, Mizzou, Memphis, Duke, Xavier, UConn, Pitt or Purdue.

A recent (before the tournament) article predicted that Duke would not seriously contend for a national championship in the coming decade. Last night was only further confirmation. The pattern to defeating Duke is simple and has been implemented by most coaches: out-athlete them, defeat them one-on-one off the dribble, and defend the 3 because Duke is ineffective in penetration. If you haven’t interpreted the euphemism, putting it more succinctly: Duke, as the aforementioned article concluded, has too many white players.

Memphis’ demise was a conflation of two factors: Weak conference competition leading to inexperience versus pressure from comparable athletes, and the relative youth of the team. If Tyreke Evans returns and with the #1 recruiting class look for Memphis to be improved although their conference schedule will limit their growth.

My coaching choices:

  1. - Gillispie stays (not likely)
  2. - Calipari (less likely)
  3. - Ford (family)
  4. - Donovan (ambivalent)

on your basketball comments

1) i think PP or Meeks could be a starter on most of those teams – maybe not all, but a good number. would agree that they would not be the go to guy, necessarily. PP is more a 4 than a 5 so, that probably increases the potential for starting on those teams. agree 100% on the rest of the team (although harris might make on one)
2) on Duke – not going there. i do think they could be in a slump era (doing better than us right now, but a slump for them)
3) i get sick of hearing about the winning streak in CUSA – Cal has done a better job on the OOC schedule, but most of that is pre Feb. i think Cal is the best recruiter in the nation right now, however, his teams do not hit free throws – and i consider on of the most basic coaching blunders that can be made. He looks flat out coached by mike anderson. as to next year – yes he will simply “roll the ball out and let them play” and will go far. his defensive coaching was better this year but i think that had to do more with the athletes than the coaching

of your choices, i would rank them:
bcg
BD (but also ambivalent)
Ford (too young)
cal(not my first choice – obviously- sort of ambivalent but leaning toward no)

Silence bad for BG

I have been lurking here all day hoping for some “breaking news” and I just had to jump in and respond to the thought we will hear nothing today.
Don’t you think that’s a BAD sign for BG?
I mean, if he is staying (or not being fired…however you want to look at it) why wait? If anything, waiting pulls MORE attention away from the NCAA tourney. If you announce “he’s our coach” there is no reason for national media to continue to talk about it besides “Oh yah, and Billy G is staying at Kentucky…Anyway…”
I think no news today is bad news for the “keep Billy G” camp. Because the only reason to wait is to make sure you have the next coach on board before you make it official.
JMHO

I think there's truth to that.

The only reason to say NOTHING right now is either:

1. Actually undecided – seems unlikely, but who knows?

2. Want commitment from incoming coach before releasing ANYTHING.

Actually Undecided

I dont know how unlikely that is. As someone on here (I forget who) has pointed out the administration has never waivered in saying that this would be handled at the end of the season – discussion and evaluation, etc. Billy seems to me to be a very honest guy and he has consistently said that he has not been in any meetings with Barnhart and Todd and I believe him. I think it could totally be possible that today’smeeting is the “things have got to change” talk we have all been aniticpating and the decision will be made based upon Billy’s response.

I believe in Billy G.

IMO

I think BCG’s staying is conditional upon him signing the contract and MB truly doesn’t know if he will…I continue to believe that BCG is UK’s coach, unless BCG doesn’t want to be here…but he has to sign the contract…

In the presser UK released it said very plainly that Coach has not been fired. Maybe that’s it. Why would they put out another presser to confirm what was already said?

Couldn't they...

just be sitting down to talk this afternoon and in essence say “get your act together, sign this contract, and we’re good to go”? we all think it has to be on this fast track, maybe it could just take a little while to get it all together…not likely, just a thought

Exactly Gobe Igbloo

WHY wait to say Billy G is going to be the coach? Why wouldn’t Mitch or somebody else at UK make a phone call last night and say “Tell those idiots that Billy G is our coach. We’re going to meet and discuss possible other changes. But Billy G WILL be the head coach next year”

No good (for billy g) reason to let the pot simmer.

by AthKat on Mar 27, 2009 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

only reason i can think of is if...

billy says “take your contract and stuff it and I am who I am”, then they are caught with their pants down again…again not likely i understand

by ukcat2169 on Mar 27, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Reason

Sounds like a pretty good reason to me. I mean why would it be so hard to believe that the meeting will lay out the “ground rules” and identify what is and is not acceptable from a UK coach and that it would then place the ball in Gillispie’s court? Maybe they really dont know what the decision will be because it all depends on how Gillispie responds to the demands of the meeting. I dont see that as very far fetched at all.

I believe in Billy G.

From WLEX website:

A group of student camped out at Memorial Coliseum Thursday night and made it loud and clear they want the coach to stay during a sort of ‘mini-protest’ against any potential action by the administration..

The group said they thought Billy Gillispie has done a good job as coach so far and hasn’t had enough time to turn Kentucky basketball around.

I'm curious

when a coach and program part ways like this (assuming it happens), does the coach usually sign a legal document regarding terms of the separation? If so, with BCG that could be interesting.

by Gobe Igbloo on Mar 27, 2009 1:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The state university

that I work at has what is called a “separation form” which the employer is to complete when an employee leaves. The employees signature is NOT required on the form. I dont know if UK is the same. Just saying.

I believe in Billy G.

by kentuckygirl0724 on Mar 27, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Could be.

I just know that is the protocol we follow – that includes college deans, etc. Employee signature is not needed on separation forms – just the employer. Ofcourse the majority of employees sign when the split is a matter of them (the employee) leaving on their own terms but in times of termination, most often those employees do not sign. Either way – employee signature is not required.

I believe in Billy G.

by kentuckygirl0724 on Mar 27, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

When I arranged to break my contract with my previous employer...

Part of the deal was that I wrote a “resignation letter” that could be distributed by my employer as he saw fit. Basically, if I went out in the community and said “That guys a jerk and abused me everyday while kicking puppies up against a wall” he could show the letter and say “That’s not what it says here.”

I don’t know if that’s typical in these sorts of situations, but I know its not unheard of.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

by AthKat on Mar 27, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hmm

Funny enough Story, Clay and Tipton didn’t consider the Edwards interviews major items at the time. The SEC comment was bigger. It was right after that that one of the ESPN writers exploded the news that Billy was embattled.

Sadly, if there wasn’t some substance behind all of this, Mitch should have never allowed it to progress to this point, as others and Pat Forde have already suggested.

by Dini-D-Alum on Mar 27, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

that there must be some substance.
Unfortunately, I think WHAS would not have run with the story last night if they didn’t have REALLY credible sources.
At this point I think it’s up to Mitch or Lee to publically say “No—this is false” and they are not doing that. (sorry a weak “he’s not been fired…yet” press release doesn’t count in my opinion) So…I’m thinking that means this meeting is the formal “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out”
