Where was the bench this year?
With all of problems at point guard, why not give some time to Delph, Halsell, Perry or Scherbenske? These guys have been under pressure before and maybe could do just as well as the starters. Why not try them and see? Wouldn't it have been wonderful if we would have found a sleeper in the mix? If we get way ahead or way behind in the NIT, it would be nice to play them in post season. Certaily I would like to see Jarrod Carter for more than a cameo appearance. The same goes for Mark Krebs and Slone. Are Donald Williams and Jarvis Walker really on the squad? Play them and see what happens. That's eight players by my count, who for whatever reason, have not played that much this year. I know they are walk-ons, but I think their enthusiasm would help.

Walker
Failed to qualify academically and was never on the UK squad officially.

Thanks Forty. Just get to watch games not attend now that I live 4 1/2 hours away.
Didn’t know that about Walker, but my original point stands. I would like to see the “magnificant other seven” play, as well. It would continue to bring fun back into the game.

Cigar man.........
ah, all this bench talk made me miss the days of Steve Masiello.

Masiello
121-30 (80%) and 15-3 in NCAA games during his cigar days.
He was given a scholarship his senior year by UK coach in 2000.

And Head Coach Prospect Somewhere (Soon)
Many don’t know that he averaged over 30 ppg in pretty tough New England prep competition.

Put them in when we have a comfortable lead...
You mean like 20 points at home with 10 minutes to play?
Oh… wait…
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Where was the bench this year?
When we had three starters that barely contributed….why would you ask where the bench “was?”
If there was talent on the bench, they would have played.
Since the “starters” had trouble maintaining and sustaining leads in very few games…..the bench didn’t get to “have any fun.”
Worst starting lineup and bench in many a year at UK! Kind of reminded me of the 1967 Cats’, two great players and not much else!!

Jaracz, Argento
Plenty good players, too.

Good point about Thad and Phil,
but the missing elements were a defensive stopper (Kron) and a totally unselfish passer (Conley). The year before, due to our extremely shallow talent pool on the ‘66 Kittens, Argento was scoring in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Had to be taking a lot of shots to do that, and he did. That wasn’t conducive to learning to be the playmaker, which is what was desperately needed on the ’67 team.
As most are tired of hearing me say, I give Larry Conley credit for a large percentage of the Cats success in ’66. He was the guy who took control of the game when it needed to be done. And he had the flu in the NC Finals.
No moral victories--it's all about Ws and Ls!!!

Berger, Too
He averaged Double Figures in 1967.
Obviously the loss of Red Tallent mid-year hurt. He was very skilled guard.
Steve Clevenger and Jim LeMaster were back-up guards. Clevenger never really did much at UK but was highly touted coming out of Anderson IN.

On paper the bench had good athletes. The assumption many people have made is that this year's starters were better than the bench.
I am not so sure that Delph, Halsell, Perry or Scherbenske (Oak Hill/Duke) would have done any worse at not scoring points and turning the ball over a great deal than the starters. Not to at least try them in the rotation to see if there was a diamond in the rough, seemed to me a mistake. Slone and Krebs got some PT, nobody else got much. Weren’t Delp and Halsell PGs in high schoo and junior college? Perry has been a walk-on with two different coaches. They must have some talent. Again fast guards like the little guy from FL confused me. Why did we let him wear us out and not use other players to defend against his quickness? Just asking?

Scherbenske
Oak Hill then Oral Roberts (not Duke).
Halsell didn’t even play in JuCo but was PG in HS. (He sat out as a JC freshman)
I doubt any of the walk-ons are better than Liggins, Galloway, or Porter.

Adam Delph
Was he a PG or SG?
Played high school ball at Pleasure Ridge Park … Had a high school career record of 108-23 … Won the Louisville scoring title in 2008 averaging 28 ppg … 2008 Sixth Region Player of the Year … Named to the 2008 22nd District All-Tournament team … Named to 2008 Hoptown Classic All-Tournament team … 2008 Las Vegas Classic MVP … 2007 All-State Honorable Mention … 2007 AllRegion … Named to the Sixth Region and 22nd District All-Tournament teams … 2007 Hoop It Up Classic MVP … 2007 Rim Rockers All-Tournament team in New York … 2006 All-District
