UNLV beat writer impugns C.M. Newton
Whether or not you agree with his assessment of UK's meriting a home game, for this guy to drag C.M. through the mud with no evidence is wrong.

This guy is a f**king idiot
I will not be surprised if C.M. Newton sends limousines for Kentucky players tonight to transport them from their dorms or apartments to Memorial Coliseum.
Hey genius, Wildcat Lodge is right next door…….
This guy hates him some Kentucky.

A commenter
takes him to task for this, then the writer says it was just a figure of speech. Still, the writer acknowledges that C.M. had to recuse himself and then still tries to implicate him somehow. That’s a stretch just to take a shot at the man.

It gets better
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/mar/17/programs-familiar-big-time-play-meeting-smaller-st/
So the 59-year-old Memorial Coliseum, an antiquated barn that seats about 9,000, will be the venue for fifth-seeded UNLV (21-10) and fourth-seeded Kentucky (20-13).
This isn’t exactly the big time.
Are you f’ing kidding me? Does no one do any homework on their articles in Vegas?

The MC (Wiki)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Coliseum_(Lexington) According to this, it now seats 7500 (as of 1990 renovation).

No evidence????
He’s got quotes from CM for crying out loud. That’s pretty good evidence, don’t you think?

Quotes taken out of context
http://www.kentucky.com/232/story/727062.html
C.M. was encouraging discouraged UK fans to "Enjoy it and pull them through and get them to New York." This writer takes it out of context and makes it sound like this comment was in regard to UK’s seeding.. Is C.M. still fond of UK, its players, and its fans. Sure is, and I’m glad of it. But to say that he somehow influenced this decision is ludicrous. He had to recuse himself. If this writer were correct, it’d be an indictment of the whole NIT selection committee for being influenced by C.M. C’mon Hoze; lay off the Haterade.

I don't hate anybody.
You may want to take off your Paranoia Pants, though.

It's just an expression
Something I heard in college. I know you don’t hate anybody, but I do think saying this writer’s assertions are backed up with quotes from C.M. is a stretch once those quotes are put in their proper context. The dude also says Tipton is a UK homer. That right there tanks his credibility.

CM should have known better.
If he wants to comment fine…but he opens himself up to scrutiny.
Tipton = Herald Leader = Lexington = Memorial Coliseum. What’s there to argue calling Tipton a homer?
Many of UK fans would do themselves good by putting themselves in others’ shoes. Can you imagine if Rupp was available, but UNLV was chosen to host and the tourney’s director was Tark? Holy Crap…can we even begin to imagine the total and complete outrage??

Scrutiny
Scrutiny, yes. But this guy is accusing C.M. and the entire NIT selection committee of some kind of underhanded dealings based on out-of-context quotes. That’s not evidence. That’s manufacturing a story because you’re upset that you didn’t get a home game. I have no problem with scrutiny, but if this is all your scrutiny turns up you do not have a case!
BTW, if you’ll read what I wrote, you’ll see that I made no case either way about whether the writer has a valid case about the home game itself. I haven’t seen UNLV play all year (with the exception of last night), so they very well could have deserved a home game. What I’m saying is this guy called out C.M. personally for making that decision when there is no evidence to suggest he did anything untoward. That’s wrong.
WRT Tipton, maybe you’ve forgotten the visceral hatred that many UK fans have for Tipton because of his comments to a recruit’s mother, etc. He’s the hometown journalist, but he’s been pretty hard on UK at times. Definitely not a homer.

Bottom line...
Would 7500 UNLV fans show up if it were held in their presumably larger arena?
Don’t complain.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Only In Las Vegas
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_&_Mack_Center Their arena seats almost 19K and is often a sellout.

Maybe...and another 11,000 UK fans would show.
Meaning that they could easily sell out the 19,000 arena. What’s to argue?

Actually, I think we posted our retort at virtually the same time.
