Announcing a New Voice on the Front Page of A Sea of Blue

Btn_men_medium

I hope you will all join me in welcoming BigSkyCat to the front page of A Sea of Blue.  BigSkyCat has been a member of A Sea of Blue for almost one year, and in that time, we have all come to know her as one of the most balanced and clear-thinking commenters we have.  We have decided it was time to give her a megaphone instead of a soap box.

As many of you know (and anyone who reads her bio will know), BigSkyCat lives out in the West, and her combination of distance from Lexington and rabid UK fandom give her a unique perspective on the Wildcats that will add tremendous value to the blog.  As A Sea of Blue continues to attract new members and new readers every day, it's important that we add a diversity of intellect to our authorship, and BigSkyCat helps us achieve that objective.

As you all know, A Sea of Blue has resisted the urge to add author after author as we have seen many blogs in and outside the UK blogosphere do, and there is a method behind this apparent madness.  Quality is our stock in trade, as well as a sense of community and mutual respect that, while available to a greater or lesser degree on other UK sties, is actually our raison d'être as a combination -- our reason for being here.  That's why we have resisted the temptation to add author after author, or gobble up other bloggers out there.  We feel that our members offer a great pool of untapped talent from which to draw.  BigSkyCat is only the latest example of that.

So join me in congratulating BigSkyCat, and giving her a big welcome as A Sea of Blue's newest author.

It fits our demographic well

We have a lot of ladies who know their Wildcat basketball as well as (and in many cases better) than their male counterparts. They make this site what it is, and having a voice on the front page will keep us boys in line!

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

If she's got the Truzenzuzex stamp of approval...

… she will be very good.

We are expecting great things out of you, BSC. Great things.

No pressure.

Congratulations BSC!

An excellent addition to the front page.

I like important stuff just as much as the next guy, but please, for a little while, deliver us from meaning, baseball. That's your greatest glory, and we thank you for it very, very much. -- Craig Calcaterra

Where In Montana?

I’ve been to Billings (scary airport landing, you think you’re going to crash into a mountaintop until you realize that’s where they put the airport) and to Culbertson in far northeastern MT.

Personally I prefer the scenery in Eastern MT – it’s like driving through artwork.

Never been... but I have a friend from school who lives/practices in Missoula

Well,

the airport you are referring to is actually located on top of what are called the rimrocks and they aren’t really considered mountains, but rather, sandstone cliffs – so not quite the same thing as mountains and definitely not as pleasing to the eye. Does that answer your question? ; )

And as far as the most beautiful parts of the state, I suppose the general consensus around these parts is that the western part of the state is the most beautiful due to the breathtaking mountains, lakes, resorts and such – the eastern and northern parts, not so much.

I Live In Chicago

Speed bumps in the grocery store parking lot are considered Mountains here.

I’m sure Western MT is gorgeous but I love driving through Eastern MT.

FortyYear...

I know you have the monies. If you have never been to Yellowstone Nat’l Park, you should. That to me was the most amazing place I have been in my lifetime. I saw the Grand Tetons and the Sawtooth Mountains on that visit. Our little knobs in Ky and even the Smokies are no comparison to those Mountains. I also walked through the “Craters of the Moon” in Idaho. This is a National Park due to the great EQ in Idaho many years ago. It is amazing looking down into those once active volcanoes and walking along the paths seeing all the volcanic ashes from so many years ago. Amazing a few wildflowers have come out amidst all the rubble.

There are very few of us in Big Sky country

But our passion makes up for our lack of numbers. I live in GF, and meet very few true Cats fans, usually from Malmstrom AFB.

My wife & I have something you might like to also have for your daughters — 2 UK cheerleaders uniforms that our 2 daughters wore when they were about 6 and 3. That was them a long time ago and they would cheer during time outs at our annual final four party. We were badly out-numbered by friends (?) who always rooted for our arch-rivals, Duke, UNC, or anyone playing our Cats.

Seriously, if you stay in MT for another few years, we would be glad to let you have them. (Actually, it doesn’t matter where you are then.) We also had pom-poms, but maybe not now. They were way to cute, and really irritated the rest of our friends, much to my delight. And back then the Cats always had more than a chance.

I’m very hopeful that those times will return.

One last commet. I work in a public works job and may have a chance to meet your husband, depending on his focus in engineering.

Oh, longtime....

…..aren’t you sweet!

My daughters love to play “cheerleader”. They don’t have actual UK cheerleader outfits, but they get so excited come game time, they dance around, jump up and down with their pom-poms — and yes, they are way too cute. : )

You know, I have to tell you, when I first stumbled across this site, one of the first posts I read was your post about where you lived and how you held an annual party every year and at the time, I thought, oh, my goodness, there is another UK fan living in my state, how unbelievable! Up until that point I had pretty much accepted the fact that I was alone with my fandom in my little part of the world. That post was one of the reasons I kept reading and eventually joined this amazing site…….so, thanks. : )

Oh, and my husband is actually a geotechnical engineer (he has his own engineering firm) — that’s how I knew the information in the above post – he’s all about rocks, soils, etc. : )

This is great news

Congratulations BigSkyCat. I have loved your comments on this site.

Hey, we have a set of “beautiful legs” to add to the value. Good move Tru.

Oh goodness

What’s next, huh? Pretty soon women will be wanting to vote too if you keep this up Tru. Then how will we get dinner? Even in the wild, the lioness has to catch supper for papa cat. Just a joke ladies, my girlfriend knows more about basketball than 98 percent of guys. Of course not me, I’m a manly man who drives a ford fusion. Look forward to reading your commentary Sky.

i mean, jeez, tru announced your addition 2.5 hours ago….

seriously, i look forward to another voice of reason leading us as ASOB.

my mom usually has a different take on things so i believe it will be valuable having a lady author in the fold………

She does have babies to take care of…two children and a hubby :-) Not an easy task at all.

Aww,

What a lovely welcome. Y’all are awesome. If I could buy you all an after-season-but-before-tourney drink, I totally would. ; )

Like I told Tru, I’m not exactly sure how I got lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try something like this, but I am very excited to write about our ‘Cats from a female point of view and share some of my thoughts. It should be a ton of fun. : )

by BigSkyCat on Mar 13, 2009 6:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I have seen your comments

You are awesome in your insight and intelligence. Tru told me about 5 months ago he was looking for a female writer on this blog. I think he made a great choice. He really needs a rest at times because he loves his vacations to the ocean :-)

Congrats, BigSky.

It’ll be nice to have an alternative to that ol’ beer-drinkin’, male-dominated, testosterone-fueled ranting that usually goes on here. Oh, wait, this is ASOB, not those other blogs. Congrats anyway 8-))

No moral victories--it's all about Ws and Ls!!!
