Liggins, Stevenson and Harrellson... some depressing stats
DeAndre Liggins has gone six games now without scoring a single point. The last time he scored was on 2/3 against Mississippi State. Today is 3/1... that's almost 1 month ago! Earlier this year he had a game where he scored 16 points and followed that up with 18 against Miami. I know DeAndre has some issues that need to be corrected and he's probably not as talented as I originally thought, but his lack of development throughout the season is disturbing. He has no confidence right now and it doesn't appear that CBG (or the staff) has any confidence in him. He has only played 13.5 minutes per game over the last 6 games. Against LSU, he played 3 minutes and had no stats that showed up in the box score.
Perry Stevenson.... Over the last 9 games, he's scored in double figures just ONE time. In January, he started to play much better, but recently he's been a total non-factor on the offensive end and even his rebounding numbers are down. Over the last 5 games, he is averaging 5.2 points per game.
Josh Harrellson has scored a total of 2 points over the last 5 games for an average of 0.40 points per game. If you take the last 11 games, he's scored a total of 20 points for an average of 1.81, which is better, but still well below his average for the season. He was playing pretty good in November and December, but his production and his minutes have been on a steady decline..

Yeah ...
… it’s a shame, but we have had several players play well below expectations this year. Liggins’ problem isn’t talent, he’s just having one of those freshman years we occasionally see. If he doesn’t run off in a huff, he’ll be much better next year.
Stevenson is capable of much, much more, and we have seen much more out of him. I don’t know what happened there. Baffling.
Harrellson is doing OK. He could have developed faster, but he has defensive footwork issues that need to be worked out. Still, for all the promise he showed early, this season has been a disappointment for him as well.

I think at this point we have to admit that Liggins is one of those who turned out not to be as advertised, but
… in my judgment the maturation we have witnessed in his understanding of his role in the team concept more than offsets the points he used to force up at every opportunity. Overall, he is a better contributor now than when he was going for the points and the flashy plays. That having been said, he’s still not showing any indication that he will become an SEC caliber lead guard.
It pains me to think what this team could do with a Chris Paul type player at the point. That alone would make this a top ten team, as it would remove (arguably) our greatest liability and replace it with a tremendous positive.
I’m not going to think about it. Maybe Villarino will be better than advertised to make up for our getting disappointed with DeAndre.
