My girlfriend and I have a somewhat heated debate that has cropped up a few times in the last week and I would like some input.

Recently, ESPN has been really hyping this 1000th victory and will frequently throw up lists of "Winningest coaches in D1 history" which show Pat Summit at the top of a list that includes Bobby Knight, Dean Smith, another women's coach who I don't remember, and Adolph Rupp as the top 5 coaches in all time wins.

My argument is that Pat Summit has no business being on a list with Knight, Smith, and Rupp.  I think she has a legitimate claim to the title of "Greatest Women's Baskeball Coach Ever" and reaching 1000 wins at any level of basketball is something to be applauded and certainly recognized.  However, it is <em>not</em> the same as Coach Knight's 902.  I believe that the women's game and men's game are two entirely different sports.  You might as well be comparing the all time winningest coach in team handball, in my opinion.  FWIW, I do think that Summit could have put together a decent career as a men's basketball coach if given the chance.

My girlfriend says its all part of the grander penis conspiracy and that Summit's wins should be recognized at the top of the list of winningest coaches.

I invite opinions.  Am I being unduly sexist here?  I don't think that I'm basing my stance on sex, but I would be interested in other thoughts.
