Who Are Kentucky's Top 3 SEC Football Rivals?
I'm preparing a thread over at sister SB Blog Track 'Em Tigers to determine who every team in the SEC ranks as their three biggest football rivals and compare the cross-over. I'd like to know who Kentucky fans feel are their top three conference rivals, either current or past. Please help me out and vote in this poll and I'll compile all the results into a thread next week.
Thanks!
Greg

UT...
UF, and USC.
UT and UF obviously because of their win streaks and USC because of their weasel of a coach.
UT comes first just because of geographics.
Historically ...
… it has to be Tennessee. That’s the only SEC school I am aware of that UK ever had any kind of relationship with in football that could be remotely described as a “rivalry.”
Calling it a “rivalry” right now is an abuse of the term. We haven’t beaten Tennessee since the Industrial Revolution before personal computers were common.

Tennessee
That loss always hurts the most (although Vandy stung pretty bad this year). Maybe we’ll have a chance against the media storm that is Lame Kiffin.
UT and Vandy
Proximity makes them natural rivals. We’d like to think that we are rivals of UT but it doesn’t really go both ways until we can beat them. A loss to Vandy bothers me worse than any of the others.
Sad
that UT pretty much scoffs at Kentucky claiming to be a rival. They should, though, given the length of the streak.

I can't believe I left Vandy off the poll results...
Let me see if I can correct that.

Rivals
Kentucky is not historically successful enough to really have a rival IMO. I guess if you had to pick I would go with Vandy, USC, and UT.
DEEETROIT BASKETBALLL!!!
My Thoughts Almost Exactly
The first sentence is factual. Thus the second is superfluous.
Well ...
… that’s not exactly true, historically. Back in days of yore, we were considered a football program, and Tennessee was our rival.
But it’s fair to say that we haven’t been successful enough since the 1950’s to have a rival.

The rivalry with Louisville trumps any SEC rivalry
Mostly due to the power football schools of the SEC owning UK for so long.
I think
Overall, Vandy because we generally compete with them for a bottom spot (changing slowly for both teams, of course). Also South Carolina because of OBC and our inability to beat him.

Rivals
UK has had some really good games at Arkansas but I cannot say that one is any bigger then the other for the mere fact UK has not beaten Florida and Tennessee for so long… I would vote all!!!

Rivalry
Tennessee, Vandy, and LSU would be my vote. The first 2 are obvious, but I would say LSU because they are the only decent team we ever beat and we have had some pretty epic games with them. Now, whether or not they would call us a rival I don’t know. But I was there when Braxton stopped them fourth and short and there were a whole lot of teary-eyed Tiger fans leaving Commonwealth that night. But all I do know is that it feels great to beat them even if it is only once every several years.
What
about Georgia. I remember alot of people gearing up for that game. I think UT is the number one rivalry, but consdiering that they haven’t been able to beat them in twenty plus years that kind of takes away from it. Like UT saying that Florida is a rivalry. Not much of one. They rarely beat them.
I never think of Georgia as a rival.
They are just another program in our league, like Alabama or LSU. We haven’t been competitive with Georgia in football in my lifetime, on a consistent basis.

What do you guys think about us?
I don’t think I’d consider Kentucky a rival because I just don’t feel the animosity for the Cats that I do for, say, UGA or Tennessee, but I always look forward to our games with you. Even though we’ve got a winning streak on you now, it’s a pretty good series and our teams usually seem evenly matched, especially now that Kentucky is putting a good team on the field.

I think ...
… it’s frustration with not being able to beat Spurrier. No real animosity, hell, I’m going to be moving to South Carolina in a few years. I guess I’ll have to become a bit of a situational Gamecock fan when I do.
So I suppose “rival” is kind of inaccurate. More like a team we feel we should be able to beat, but can’t seem to get the job done. That will create a kind of rivalry, which is what we have here.
I don’t consider Vandy a rival football at all. That would be tantamount to an admission of futility, like considering Duke a football rival. Vandy is an academic school, and they don’t even have an athletic department. If we consider them rivals, we truly have reached the bottom rung of the ladder. Bobby Johnson is a great coach and has led them to overachieve, but for God’s sake, a rival?
Never.

Not planning to leave ASoB.
I just need to get closer to my retirement place. I love the ocean, and Kentucky is just too landlocked for me to spend my dotage in. :-)

So...
am I to take it that if Vandy and S.Carolina tie, you’ll cast the tiebreaker for Carolina, Tru?
